Preventing the Singularity Coworker has an AI poster. My students left him a note

Coworker has an AI poster of another coworker in his room… I talked to my advanced middle school kids earlier this year about all the impacts AI has on our environment and especially our drinking water. Next time I walked in this was hanging next to the poster😭😭

Theyre apparently chewing out some elective teachers who use AI too. I had no idea they would feel this strongly but it’s been so amazing to watch

EDIT 2: just going to leave this update here, it explains how this situation came to be. I do love all the comments calling me a bad educator, I wish I could plop them in a middle school classroom and see how they do for a day

Preventing the Singularity Christopher Nolan: "I’ve never seen a more rapid wholesale dismissal of a supposedly foundational jump in technology in my lifetime. So much energy has been expended on bringing in AI, but if you look at Gen Z's reaction, they’re utterly rejecting it. They see it for what it is very quickly”

“I’ve never seen a more rapid wholesale dismissal of a supposedly foundational jump in technology in my lifetime,” he says. “So much energy has been expended on bringing in AI, but if you look at that generation’s reaction, they’re utterly rejecting it.” He cites his own four children – in their late teens and early 20s – as a further example.

“Their judgment of AI slop has been immediate and harsh. They see it for what it is very quickly – and it’s much easier for them to identify it, because it grew out of an online world they know really well. And while that doesn’t mean that every aspect of the technology is useless or meaningless, in film-making it’s hitting at exactly the wrong time. After years of driving towards heavily virtual environments, we’re seeing a renewed interest in more tactile, more real forms of storytelling.”

Preventing the Singularity I’m a professional illustrator who lost my eye and I’m legally blind now but I still continue to do what I love. The series I wrote is now being worked on by a Mexican animation studio!

Preventing the Singularity AI? No thanks, making art with a eye! Sharing a big win as I got hired to take AI’s job for a book cover

Hi guys-
Lost my eye this year, I’ve been struggling a lot with how to reconcile the loss of literally half my sight. It’s difficult because a lot of my depth perception and ability to see small details is impacted, as well as having floaters, etc.
I’ve always been an artist, but a lot of the work I did prior to losing my eye feels like it belongs to a version of myself I no longer am. But I’ve been very motivated to readjust, I’m still working on what I love professionally, even though I had to adjust to major hurdles- and also, I just took back my job from AI! A customer reached out to get a book cover redone, as their book was drowning in AI slop covers and they said that they’re desperate for their book to stand out- which is why they’re working with an artist now.
It felt amazing to get that contract, and my kickstarter for my animated series is doing well! I’ve genuinely been thinking that as the novelty wears off, people will be left craving authenticity in media and that’s where a huge artist resurgence will come in. I also have a gallery show next week, and sold a few originals at my highest price yet this week!
Hang in there friends, we’re gonna make it
