Utah Jazz rookie Darryn Peterson was a self-described ‘anti-social loner.’ He’s finding his people in Utah.

I wrote about Darryn Peterson.

The growth I’ve seen in him in just a few months, how he’s seemed to fit right into Utah and the Jazz.

And why his teammates almost can’t believe he’s a rookie.

Probably my favorite story I’ve written so far — let me know if you have any questions!

Everybody has been saying great things about the work that Brice has put in this summer. I'm excited to see the result on the court. Hopefully Brice and the Jazz can reach a good deal on an extension for his contract.

Which former Jazz player from the 4 year rebuild do you wish was on the team for next season?

Post image
26 Upvotes

Now that we’re coming out of the rebuild, just for fun, who’s one player we lost along the way that you wish was still on the roster?

Not saying we should trade to get them back — just someone you enjoyed watching or think would fit really well with the team we have now.

Some notable names:

Jordan Clarkson
John Collins
Kevin Love
Collin Sexton
Kris Dunn
Simone Fontecchio
Taylor Hendricks
Cody Williams
Mike Conley
Jared Vanderbilt
Talen Horton Tucker
Kenneth Lofton Jr.
Luka Šamanić

Excluding Walker Kessler and NAW because those answers would make this way too easy.

Kessler question

Hello Jazz fans, warriors fan with a question.

Why did the Jazz trade Kessler? It seems like there is a legitimate hole at centre now, that maybe Nurkic can fill, or you have a developing centre right. But I'm imagining big lineups of Kessler, JJJ and Lauri that would have been so good?

Was the Lakers offer too good to turn down, or is Kessler not as good as people think he is rn? Was there cap problems? Do the coaches think JJJ can play the 5? I don't quite get it, feel like your lineups would be insane with him...

For your friends, family and casual fans who still think the Jazz won't try this season..

I have a lot of family and friends who've been convinced that the front office is just lying to us or something and still wants to tank when

1, we don't own our pick

2, tanking doesn't have benefits anymore.

3, we have our guys

If you go to a game this year and for the coming years, the Jazz will be trying to win on a nightly basis, playing everyone, and playing as hard as possible. People all over socials have been against Austin Ainge's media day quotes due to what he said last year about being done tanking, yes, the Jazz are in fact, done tanking, and they're going to be pretty good if I had to guess.

Will we start rough? Maybe, we might only be .500 at the deadline or maybe even a few games under, but we're going to compete for the playoffs as hard as we can this season and it will be different. I don't know why anyone still thinks otherwise.

Hour 3: Utah Jazz Head Coach Will Hardy Joined the Station Earlier Today | Walker Kessler Opened ...

Some takeaways from Will Hardy:

  • Hardy doesn't think JJJ is a five but JJJ can play some five and can give the Jazz a different look at center.
  • Hardy might play a lineup based on matchups. If something doesn't work, the coaches will try something different.
  • About DP, Hardy might take a couple of weeks into the season and then compare stats on how players are doing. I take this to mean that DP might not be a starter when the season opens. But Hardy wants DP not to care about starting and just focus on being the best player he can be.

From Jake and Ben:

  • The Lakers took Walker because they promised Luka a center and Walker and Duren were the best available.
  • The Jazz were willing to go way higher than 32M to re-sign Walker.

Decisiveness: The key to Jazz bootcamp.

The question mark with the Jazz this year is how decisive they can be. Fine tune details around a clear objective for them to minimize the path. Immediately, Taking shots when they have looks to build the habits even if they don't fall. Deciding a clear 2nd and 3rd lineup every night that is designed for that game. Every day putting in a bit of time on the small things and minimizing time with media and travel to maximize their focus and practice. Media doing what they can to keep the questions light and open ended so they players are comfortable to be themselves and learn from mistakes. With a small fast and skilled highly roster and 3-4 guys who can handle the ball on the court any time, how to get the most out of their screens and technical play. Knowing how to get a play called for each one and get them comfortable early in schemes to build on it. Using the Jazz particular strength of speed to beat the 5 out since they have so much rebounding. A lot of the teammates haven't played together and getting them to a role. These decisive choices that will need to be made early will shape the future.

Out of bootcamp, I'd like to hear some talk about their identity to the lineups. Reasons for the types of plays that they plan to run. How they plan to split the time with the 2 ballhandlers and the floor. Where they can simplify their communication so they can get mostly contested shots on defense and setting up for a passing big like Nurk, running 2 ball handlers and handoff, or a rim runner like Mo Bamba. I think it would be nice to get some discussion on the goals of the bootcamp and how they are evaluating whether they are able to get to the point where they make the decisions quickly. If they plan to run a more complex defense and focus on communication or stick to a more singular syle and work on execution. It's a time for the Jazz to lay out their identity. And I want them to have a goal to share it.

Questions from someone interested in the team

Last night I got off on a Keyonte George rabbit hole and now I really excited about him and hoenstly the whole future of the jazz team, seems like a such a young talented group that’s really gonna do something in the next couple seasons. I have got a few questions. If anyone is interested in talking about the team.

1) is Keyonte your guy? (Excuse my ignorance)
1a) if not, who is?
2a) should I expect to continue to see keyonte raise more next season or kind of stagnant?
2) how was this team put together? (Mostly draft, trades, free agency etc.)
3) is this gonna be a big3 or duo or superstar team?
4) what are the hopes for this coming season?
5) what could the depth chart look like for this coming season?
6) does this team have a lot of personality?
7) how much can you see these players outside of the nba? (Podcast, interviews, community appearances)
7a) does anyone on the team have a YouTube channel?
8) is there any dead cap space, or dumb contracts?

Thanks to anyone who answers any of these questions, much appreciated if you even took the time to read them

Seg+ watch from beginning annoys me.

I was hoping they fixed this for this year, but I was watching the Mammoth game earlier and apparently they haven't. If you click the "watch from beginning" button after the game starts it's goes to the live game for a second or 2 and you see the score before it takes you back to the beginning. Then if the game ends live while you arent watching live, it kicks you out and you have to go find the game in their past games and then figure out where you are. I'm really annoyed that I paid 175$ for this.

Standings prediction.

I'm making my picks for the year and I'm stuck on the jazz. What seed do yall predict them to be?

I feel like defense and center is weak, and a rookie point guard isn't great for winning. However the talent is through the roof.

What are some of the standout moments of the last 4 years of Jazz basketball?

Post image
66 Upvotes

With the tank seemingly coming to an end, I think we should do a eulogy of sorts and think back and appreciate the good times we have had. What are some of the standout memories you have from the tank?

Some of mine:

The 10-3 start of the first season. The Jazz were the 1 seed at some point and I remember everyone being surprised that the Jazz were actually pretty good.

Lauri's rise: I will admit when we traded Donovan I was more excited about Sexton than Lauri. I think everyone was really surprised to see Lauri's breakout season finally with the Jazz and get his first All Star appearance.

The Highlighter Jerseys: When those leaks came out I remember being on social media and everyone was freaking out saying they had to be fake because there was no way they were that bad. Still one of the most shockingly bad jerseys I have ever seen on a professional sports team. Good on Ryan for acknowledging the huge mistake and recalling them asap and giving us the new ones which are now some of the best in the league

Jordan Clarkson Triple Double: Not much to say about this but it was awesome to see JC finally break the triple double draught for the regular season that this team had had for so long. That final rebound was hype. A small victory during the tank.

the tank is over but are we better ran...

Post image

The tank is over and I am so happy, I knew it would be a shorter run then some of the 20 years other teams have gone through with little to no hope. We have ownership that is involved. The recent news of the Clippers and just pure corruption has got me thinking about the worst ran franchise in the NBA (which I believe the NBA ones are worse than the NFL Browns so basically North American Sports). Many would say the Clippers are the worst with basically two scandals in the decade and just missing on not only numerous draft picks but also landing free agents and the team just burns them at the stake.

I would say the Sacramento Kings are even worse, especially in the last decade or two. They are irrelevant, lose players that consistently seem to leave and be better but mostly they just suck at ownership. Case in point they have fired two head coaches that were good, went on to win championships. I mean really they could have kept Mike Malone or Mike Brown but they let both walk and the Kings continue to lose, dont hire a coach that people want and the ones that leave get rings. Malone earned in Denver and Brown in New York.

They had talent as well, they had Hali but somehow just let him walk, same with Fox. You could go back even further but for this post I dont think you have to.

Are the Kings the worst ran franchise in the NBA? A side note is like should we have kept Quinn? I dont think he wanted to be apart of a rebuild, again. I think the future is bright with Hardy and that is the right call and I am excited to see what he does with a green light for winning.
