POLITICS Acton up by six points in recent polls

Obviously we can’t get complacent, but this is a pretty huge spread from even a few weeks ago. The tides are turning all across the country, you can tell the GOP is terrified. The fact that two of the biggest red states in the country, Ohio (Cold Florida) and Florida (Warm Ohio) might get Democratic governors is so wild.

Trump really messed up.

Edit: ok it seems that some of you are missing the first sentence here, so I’ll be more clear.

This doesn’t mean you can just stay home. Go vote, tell your friends and family to vote, tell strangers to vote.

POLITICS 1 in 4 respondents incorrectly identified Sherrod Brown as the incumbent U.S. Senator in BGSU's September 2026 poll

Notably, while 9 in 10 respondents could correctly identify Republicans as currently in control of Congress, 1 in 4 respondents incorrectly identified Sherrod Brown as the incumbent U.S. Senator.

Thought this was interesting, might partially explain why his polling lead is greater compared to other "toss-up" races like Maine for example

Following up on my post from the other day about the KKK flyers being passed around in Hillsboro, Ohio. Worthington and Clintonville got hit the same exact night and both places are about an hour and a half away from Hillsboro, so this wasn’t just a couple of people creating flyers to cause trouble as some suggested. I’ve attached screenshots that two women of color received from a fake account and a random number for making a post to bring awareness to what happened in Hillsboro. Both women have since deleted their posts out of fear for their own safety.

There is going to be a rally in Hillsboro on Sunday to stand against this hatred if anyone would like to show up. I’ll attach an event link for more info. Also I’m sorry to anyone in Worthington and Clintonville who were affected by this bs.

Avoid The Quarry Apartments: months without AC, broken amenities, and management that won’t answer

Avoid The Quarry Apartments outside of Grandview off 5th— months without AC, broken amenities, and management that won’t answer

Posting this because I wish somebody had warned me before moving here. We’ve lived at The Quarry for about five years, and I genuinely cannot understand how this place operates the way it does while charging what they charge.

The biggest issue is our AC has been broken since the beginning of July. Not a few days. Not a week. Months. During August, our apartment was getting up around 95 degrees in the afternoon. We have two cats, and it got so hot that we literally had to pay people to watch them because we didn’t feel safe leaving them in our own apartment. So we’re paying full rent while also paying somebody else because our apartment is too hot for our pets, and somehow that still wasn’t enough to get the AC fixed.

Getting ahold of the office is a joke too. Seriously, try calling them. In our experience, they almost never answer the phone, and emails go unanswered. Eventually you realize the only way you’re getting any kind of response is by physically going into the office, and then you get the same runaround every time. “We’re waiting on somebody.” “Someone’s out of town.” “Maintenance will be there tomorrow.” “They’ll be there Monday.” “This person has to approve it.” Then tomorrow comes and nothing happens. Monday comes and nothing happens. You go back into the office, get another explanation, another promise, and the whole cycle starts over. After dealing with this for years, it honestly feels like they’ll tell you whatever they need to tell you in that moment just to get you out of the office.

And apparently we are FAR from the only people dealing with this. A lot of residents have gotten to the point where they’re putting their rent into escrow just to try to get maintenance issues handled. That alone should tell you how bad things have gotten. People should not have to take formal action just to get basic repairs done in the place they’re paying to live in.
What’s even crazier is that from what we’ve seen and heard, there are so many people doing that now that even residents who have gone the escrow route are still waiting weeks for things to get fixed. There’s basically a backlog. So if the people who have already taken that step are still waiting around a month or more for maintenance, what do you think happens to everybody else who hasn’t? You get pushed even further to the bottom and it feels like nobody is coming at all.

We didn’t go the escrow route ourselves because of our situation with buying a house and not wanting anything to interfere with that process, but plenty of other residents have. The fact that people are having to do that in the first place just to get the property to handle basic maintenance is insane.

What makes the AC situation even more ridiculous is that when we first moved here and had an AC problem, they actually had portable AC units for residents to use temporarily. So they already know this solution exists. I’ve suggested multiple times that they buy more. These units cost a few hundred bucks. If you know AC failures are an ongoing issue at your property, wouldn’t it make sense to keep enough portable units around so somebody isn’t sitting in a 90+ degree apartment for weeks? Apparently not.
And meanwhile, look at the amenities residents are paying for. The dog parks are awful, the car wash doesn’t work, the vacuum doesn’t work, one of the pools is completely closed, and the gym equipment is garbage. Yet rent keeps getting collected every month without a problem. They act like they have no options and no money to fix anything, but residents are paying a lot to live here and still dealing with broken or unusable amenities and basic maintenance problems.

Eventually we filed a complaint with the City of Columbus because we couldn’t get anywhere ourselves. The property was given a deadline to address the AC and other issues. And now, right at the end of that deadline, literally two days before we move out, maintenance calls us and asks, “Is your AC fixed?”

What???

YOU ARE THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT.

If the AC had been fixed, wouldn’t YOU know? Because presumably somebody from YOUR maintenance department would have fixed it. That phone call pretty much perfectly summarizes what living here has been like.

They’ve gone through multiple maintenance crews since we’ve lived here. We’ve even had maintenance workers come into our apartment and tell us they didn’t know how to work on these AC units because they’d never worked on them before. And almost every time I’m in the office, somebody else is there pissed off about some maintenance issue that hasn’t been handled.

We finally bought a house and we’re getting the hell out. I’m posting this for anyone searching Reddit later for The Quarry Apartments, apartments in Columbus, or where not to rent in Columbus, because I know that’s exactly the kind of thing I would’ve searched before moving somewhere.

Talk to actual residents before you sign anything. Don’t just look at the website, the amenities list, or the Google rating. And if you already live here and are dealing with this stuff, document everything. Save emails. Screenshot maintenance requests. Take pictures and videos. Take pictures of your thermostat. Write down dates, names, and exactly what you were told. Because when residents are having to put rent into escrow just to get basic maintenance handled, and even THEN they’re still waiting weeks, that should tell you everything you need to know about how bad the situation has gotten.

NEWS Gov. DeWine signs bill to suspend Ohio gas tax for 90 days

Ohio lawmakers approved a temporary suspension of the state's gas tax at the request of two gubernatorial candidates locked in a tight race focused on affordability.

House Bill 519, which passed with GOP and Democratic support, will suspend Ohio's 38.5 cents-per-gallon gas tax and 47 cents-per-gallon diesel tax, reducing them to virtually zero for 90 days. The change would save the average driver about $80 around the elections and the holidays, though estimates vary.

Legislators approved spending more than $725 million in taxpayer dollars to ease drivers’ pain at the gas pump, and Gov. Mike DeWine signed the gas tax suspension into law.

The change will take effect on Oct. 4.

Is this normal for highway driving? I woulda let the truck over but he didn't use a signal and wasn't expecting him to move. And I made a lot of space for him after but he drove off. I've almost had my car ran into 4-5 times in the last 2 months

European dude feeling kind of lost

Hi everyone,

I am a European dude here in Columbus for a while. I've been here a month and I have one more month to go. I'm here on a work placement.

I'm feeling a bit lost in the scale of everything (I come from a small village in Southern Europe) and feel I'm missing out. Where do you guys find events and things?

I am near High Street and I think it is warping my view of Columbus ha! The Kroger there was an experience! I've been shopping more in Lucky's Market.

But I am running the half-marathon coming up and I've been training on the Olentangy Trail and Scioto Trail and that's been great.

I think I'm just too much of an introvert! And I don't have a car.

Just wanted to reach out!

Anyone Wanna Go Outside and Play?

I've been feeling a little couped up and everything has been a bit stale lately, I'm guessing I'm not the only one. Anyone want to go outside and do stuff? The weather is actually nice finally!

Things I like to do: Drive spiritedly, wrench on cars, walk around in the woods, flip through bins at record stores, hit up local concerts, catch comedy shows.

Things I don't do: drinking, sports, large crowds.

I'm open to trying new things as long as they aren't based around the things I don't do.

Drivers license system down state-wide

Just to give everyone a heads up. I went to renew my license just now and the system is down for getting a new license or renewing. I was told it’s down state-wide wide, they can’t photos. There was no estimate on when the system would be back.

REQUEST Sneaker heads please help!

• Upvotes

Hello Reddit family! Thank you in advance for any info you share! I purchased a storage unit at auction and it had a pair of highly collectible Jordan’s in it. Two of my coworkers are into sneakers more than I am these days and they think the shoes are authentic but they have not seen a pair in person until I brought the pair I won in the storage auction to them. Is there somewhere I can go in Columbus to get them professionally authenticated? My worry is it’s such a rare shoe that not many people have seen it in person to even know how to authenticate it. I’m trying to avoid shipping it to get authenticated if possible.

Traffic in 2026

Is it just me but is traffic been getting steadily worse throughout the year? And it’s not even a rush hour anymore it’s all hours of the day, any direction, just an explosion of traffic.

I know Columbus has been growing but it feels like there’s been a serious jump in 2026, and not even just because of construction. Side note- sure would be cool if we had a passenger rail or metro system to get around the city but I digress.

Wondering what you guys think

REQUEST what's the best downtown lunch you can realistically get in 30 minutes?

not “30 minutes if there's no line and you already know where to park.” actually leave work, get food, eat, and be back in about half an hour.

I've been working around downtown more lately and I'm realizing a lot of places that look like quick lunch spots aren't really quick once noon hits.

doesn't need to be fancy. ideally somewhere you can get a decent meal for around $10-12 without spending most of the break waiting for it.

what places actually pass the 30 minute test?
