News Screw the Weed Man
Yeah. I get that the biggest driver of Iowas cancer epidemic are the farms but I will say it again. Stop spraying chemicals on your stupid lawns. Lawns are for assholes. Grow food or habitat. Nobody needs more golf courses.

New day for Men's Walk and Talk! Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!
In the hope of fitting more men's schedules we are going to try Sunday afternoon this week.
We are Alex, Andy, and Nik. We’ve been living in Iowa City for many years. We've decided to see if men would like to walk and talk twice a month locally.
Our purpose is twofold:
- To give men a non-judgmental space to talk about what’s going on for us.
- To open the door to a community of local friendships with men in a world that often makes that difficult to find/maintain.
Please note, this is not a religious or politically affiliated group.
Here’s why this matters. Cigna and other major organizations regularly share research confirming that over 50% of people in the US feel “sometimes or always alone.” Such levels of isolation can have health impacts equal to smoking. Lonely people face higher levels of heart disease, neurodegenerative disease, diabetes, cancer and so on. Many men struggle with loneliness even as we are busy working, caring for our kids, dealing with the daily demands of life. But research shows that men with a robust circle of friendships live longer healthier lives, have better marriages/relationships, feel more optimistic and are more successful in our personal and professional lives.
Cigna research: https://newsroom.thecignagroup.com/loneliness-in-america
Although we have some sense of how these talks might begin, the conversations will go where they go depending on the needs of each man. Men of any age are welcome to join us.
Rules:
- No politics
- Be yourself
- Respect confidentiality
The rules we use on our walks are meant to help us dial down to the personal and talk about what’s going on for us in our own lives. They are not absolute. They are guidelines.
Disclaimer: Walking Talking Men is not therapy and we are not therapists. We are not doing coaching. We are not doing men’s work. We are simply sharing information about how we are creating real, lasting, local friendships for men in our neighborhood. That’s it.
If you’d like to join us on a walk, send us an email to [walkingtalkingmeniowacity@gmail.com](mailto:walkingtalkingmeniowacity@gmail.com) with why this idea appeals to you. We’ll respond to all emails. We look forward to hearing from you.
When: Sunday, October 4th, 3pm.
Where: Meet at the parking lot of Terry Trueblood Rec Center pavilion: https://maps.app.goo.gl/pQZrVyhJ2pVgGPnA8
The walks are inspired by this story

Community female hiking partner :>
hi!
a little about me: im a gnc woman in my late 20's. i don't have a car, and i live near downtown. i'm looking for someone to hike with!
what im looking for in a hike: i wanna walk slow! we don't gotta go at a snail's pace or anything, but i was a smoker and have a history of knee injuries to my left knee, so i gotta take it easy. and the most fun part of hiking to me is looking around! i wanna look at leafs and flowers. i also rly like to look for antler sheds!!! basically, i'm in it for the vibes, not the exercise (tho i def respect the grind of exercise hikers LOL) -- it'll prob help if ur around my height, i'm 5'5 on a good day.
what im looking for in a hiking partner: women only please! if u have a car, this is ideal!!! lookin 2 meet up irl first to vibe check aka just make sure we won't hate eachothers company on hikes. we don't have to hit it off insanely well or anything, and i'm not opposed to hanging with people who have different opinions or that sorta thing. of course it'd be baller to make a friend, but if we're not hitting it off crazystyle, we can hike in mostly silence if u want lmao
more about Me: i got hella free time but try and stay busy! this means i can probably make time to hike with u wheneva. i don't do well with the heat but i can power thru the cold and wet like nobody's business.
Thank u for reading !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! take care
( also.. PLEASE do not comment telling me about groups of people who hike! : i know theres a couple out there but the timing/transportation never quite lines up for me, and i want something a lil more chill than hanging with a big group of strangers lols))

Not just "No" but "New". If you agree we need a new jail, but not with Johnson County's current plan, join me for New Jail? New Plan: A Constructive Workshop, Oct 20
Johnson County is about to build a hundred-and-some million dollar jail - or not. Don't you wish there was a better option? If you're voting No but you'd vote Yes on a better proposal, or you're voting Yes but you wish there was a different option, this workshop is for you.
Together we'll aggregate information and use it to answer our questions, learn what's already being done and by whom, find our common ground and sketch out a plan of action.

Restaurant and Parking Advice
Hi All,
Coming in from Davenport for the game this Saturday. How early do I need to arrive to get a spot in a downtown parking garage? If I get there at 11am is that good enough? Also where should I eat after the game? I heard Hamburg inn and Shakespeares but worried both may be packed so would love other ideas.
Thanks!

Lost and Found Lost crocheted wristbands - 20$ if anyone finds either
I lost two handmade crocheted wristbands
One is a pokemon one, blue with images of a pokemon trainer and some pokemon after him (charmander, bulbasaur, pikachu)
The other is blue with images of yellow straw hats on it
These were handmade and a gift from a friend so I would really appreciate it if anyone found it! I'd give you $20 for either

Community Can anyone please help me. This meter is only a 30mins. No sign whatsoever.
So, this is really the problem. Every other meter in town is at least two hours, except for this one. It’s only 30 minutes, which actually works really well for my business, and that’s why it’s set up that way.
I completely understand why it can be frustrating for someone going to Bluebird. Since the city did away with all the meters in the main parking lot, the remaining meters are at a premium.
All day long, people try to put more money in this meter to extend their time. When I see someone doing that, I’ll usually let them know it’s only a 30-minute meter, just to be helpful. Most people appreciate knowing that.
Unfortunately, it only takes one person to complain, and suddenly something that was meant to be helpful can become an issue.

Sports Coming into Town this weekend
Hi all, as an Ohio state fan coming into town this weekend for the game. We have a parking pass for lot 65 (Finkbine Commuter lot) but also want to make it to College Gameday at the Pentacrest. Is there a good way to get over there with all the closures still? Or making the walk the only option?
Also, if anyone has any suggestions for food or places to see. please share!
Looking forward to the trip and hopefully a good game!

Caitlin 1 Pop Up Shop
Anybody heard any hard info on whether there is going to be a pop-up shop Downton on Thursday for the Caitlin 1 release? This truck is downtown today.
Would love to pick up something in person versus having to try my luck in the online lottery.

Help fix my Brother 1034D Serger
My serger recently broke & I have only had it for a few months. I believe it might just be the timing which i attempted to fix on my own but was unsuccessful. Anyone know a place or person who can fix sewing machines & sergers in the area?

Is there anyone live at the post office?
I have had the most frustrating day trying to get someone live on the phone to address a lost paycheck. My daughter-in-law worked at the Iowa City, Iowa Post office for nearly a month before she couldn't handle the 2am - 10 am 6 days a week schedule. She and my daughter just moved to that area and need her check to pay rent while she waits for her new job's payroll to come up. The check was supposed to be at the post office in the 25th. She went to pick it up and was told it wasn't there. She has been trying to call her supervisor but the woman, Brandi has simply left her on read with no reply. It's now the 29th. No one answers the local number and the national 'customer care' number is strictly automated, no option to explain the issue. I did find the phone number for the post master, Cynthia, but all I get is a recording stating her voice mail is full and it hangs up. Brandi, the supervisor is on medical leave apparently and we have no other contacts to reach out to. HR says call accounting and accounting says talk to your supervisor and the supervisor is on medical leave and not responding. Any suggestions out there?

Iowa vs Ohio State. CANT FIND A PLACE TO STAY
So my buddy just reached out TODAY (Tuesday week of game). He got 2 tickets to the Iowa/Ohio State game, lower section, and I gotta go. But we’re coming from out of state… Just searched online, literally no hotels, vbros, or airbnbs in site. Some slightly out of town that are $1000+ a night.
Does anyone local have any ideas of what I should do? Or where to look? Cabins? other towns? Cedar Rapids has one hotel left at 900 a night…
Any help would be appreciated… lol
