Happily married for 25 years and I think my wife would WTF the bajesus out of me if I showed up unannounced on a girls trip. Part of me thinks we’re happily married because I wouldn’t do anything like this.

Of course to be fair to these gorgeous hothouse web-dwelling folks they’re all super young and the dynamic is very different in the early days of “courtin”. Keeping romance alive in my marriage these days is surprising her with three loads of folded laundry, the kids lunches packed and a foot rub.

Now I want to do a video of older couples falling asleep in mismatched pajamas to Victorian Farm on tv with this music playing in the background. Snoring and a farting dog would be mandatory.

Three loads of anything at my age is an incapacitating amount of exercise

I’m laughing out loud in the back room at work, and I am not really a laugh out loud from Reddit comments kinda guy.

But it would most def be surprising, though!

Omg last night my husband did the laundry and AND folded socks. Idk if you know what it’s like to fold a shit ton of children’s socks but my god I’m sure that’s an activity on one of the seven levels of hell. I looked at him and said “you’re working for it tonight aren’t you?” He winked at me and said “ready and waiting after I find this other spider man sock.”

Laundry done and lunch, listen up lads, this is wisdom speaking. The less your wife has to view you as a dependent the more she will value you as a sexual partner.

Married 10 years. You couldn't pay me to crash a girl's trip. That's prime ME time, too.

Literally on the husband's side of a girls trip right now and I was thinking the same thing

23

u/DigNitty 2h ago

Yeah. I love my GF but...

She reassures me she won't stay out later than 10pm or she'll be back from the trip by sunday. And I'm like "No no, stay as long as you want. PLEASE"

Time away from each other is absolutely necessary and doesn't mean you don't love them.

I wfh and my wife is stay-at-home. On the rare occasion she goes out with a friend, she keeps updating me on everything she is doing, almost minutes by minute. I'm like, "Leave me alone. I'm trying to play this game." Lol.

Yeah we very rarely do it, our kids are still pretty young and we guilt ourselves about any time not spent outside of work as a family. But every single time one of us has a reason to do it that forces our hand, we have the conversation after about we should do this a little bit more often.

Can you explain this to my wife? She doesn’t believe me

u/bob_apathy 3h ago

My wife had to cancel one last month because of an illness and I was bummed for both of us!

u/Chudpaladin 3h ago

The house without the wife is great for a week. After that my clingy ass gets a little sad.

The longest we’ve been separated was 2 months due to work. That was hard.

A little bit is medicine. A lot is poison. I get it

I wfh and my wife is currently a stay-at-home mom. She hogs the living room TV, where my "office" is situated. I need her gone so I can watch what I want, lol.

•

u/ABSNegativeOne 24m ago

Just ask her boyfriend if he can bring her to Wendys

•

u/wrnrg 22m ago

Your mom doesn't like Wendy's.

I had to give you my first ever award just for the fine use of vernacular (courtin’). I agree with everything you said!

Edited to add - Laundry done and lunches packed? Swoon!

u/bottlesnstones 3h ago

Its doing the dishes for me 🫠😍

3

u/Disastrous_Return83 2h ago

lol ok yea that does make me weak in the knees too. My partner is so good at just unloading the dishwasher without being asked. Also he’s proactive in loading what may be there in the sink already too. I thank him daily for it.

Look at these helpful contributory partners out here!! 💜

u/bottlesnstones 1h ago

I dont have a dishwasher so its the dishes done in the sink 😁😁

My wife's currently on a girls trip, and as much as she says how much she wishes I was there when we talk/text, she would not be happy if I just showed up out of nowhere.

12

u/Mekito_Fox 2h ago

"I wish you were here" = I want to plan our own trip

5

u/__ConesOfDunshire__ 2h ago

Yep, which she actually started doing today while she was waiting to bored the plane to come home. 😂

u/Redebo 3h ago

Three loads?

My brother in Christ, my apologies as I was not familiar with your game.

This reminds me of a coffee table book I bought years ago after my divorce called “Porn for Women” that featured a series of photos of good looking men doing household chores like laundry or vacuuming or asking them to go antiquing. It was quite hilarious. At least for the few minutes or so.

Keeping romance alive in my marriage these days is surprising her with three loads of folded laundry

Let me tell ya, we've been together for about 16 years now. I got a new job a few months ago. First big purchase was a surprise. A new dyson vacuum. It showed up and she got excited, and then I proceeded to happily do the entire house with it.... That was a good night

I’m just here for Victorian farm!

2

u/vettechrockstar86 3h ago

What’s it say about me that after almost 22 years I’d still be silently hoping that my husband would show up and we could Irish goodbye everyone else and just do our own thing? Honestly I don’t know how I’d make it through the first night, trying to sleep in a strange bed without him sounds impossible to me.

But we’re considered a weird couple already because we’ve been attached at the hip since the day we met. In 22 years we’ve only been apart for 8 days and that was only because he had couple of business trips he went on. We just love our “bubble” and prefer to only leave it if it’s absolutely necessary.

3

u/Mekito_Fox 2h ago

And if your husband knows that about you, it's the same as doing three loads of laundry.

2

u/Mekito_Fox 2h ago

12 years of marriage and if my husband suprised me in a space I don't expect him I would have a panic attack. But if I come home to something on my to do list marked off (and done at least mostly correctly) then the romance is alive!

He did have flowers sent to me at my job though. That was perfect.

1

u/LunatasticWitch 3h ago

Oh if you like the Victorian Farm, I do recommend their other series (Tudor Monastic Farm, Elizabethan, Edwardian and an offshoot where they join the building efforts of a medieval castle in France). Honestly Ruth and the boys are household celebrities between my wife and I.

1

u/sentient_fox 2h ago

I checked the cats teeth yesterday, but also asked her to double check me so I know I didnt fuck it up.

1

u/wtcnbrwndo4u 2h ago

Pretty sure the context here is long distance relationships. I'd think you would definitely be happy to see them if you don't see your partner regularly, even on a girls/boys trip.

1

u/angeldawns 2h ago

When my husband is away I send him the most attractive pictures I can think of....so much laundry folded....and the weird laundry too....like when did we last wash the throw blankets in the living room?  Or the couch covers? All the stupidly big comforters that never dry right.....

Then vacuuming the stairs.

Sweeping the garage out.

Dropping off the donations that kept piling up.

Cutting the grass.

When he gets home I don't want any to do lists lingering and waiting for him.

If I showed up to his trip he would have every right to be so mad at me.

1

u/mobilekungfu 2h ago

The Victorian Farm bit hit a little close to home.

Snoring/farting dog + husband

•

u/Pitiful-North-2781 19m ago

I guarantee those guys are there because they’re afraid of their girlfriends cheating abroad.

•

u/BootCampPTSD 0m ago

And I appreciate guys like you for that. I got to sleep with so many wives/girlfriends at tourist locations when I was stationed in Europe. They always seem like the kind that won't cheat too.
