Nah, a lot of people just freeze up when in a situation like that

Maybe she thought it was one of her friends/family? If anyone hugged me like that I would have assumed it was either my husband or my mom.

You think there is a higher chance of some random robber/murder/creep/rapist coming up behind you and hugging you than it being a friend or family?

Yes if I'm going on somewhere far where I know only my friends are with me who are all sitting in front of me

What i am saying is that, if I was sitting with a group of my friends or family, and they are all smiling and laughing and not showing any alarm, and someone came up behind me and hugged me, I would not assume any danger.

Their faces would tell me the state of the situation and if I should be distressed or not, right? Considering they are people I trust. If they continue smiling as the person walks behind me and hugs me, I would assume it is someone we all know and trust, and someone neither of us would be alarmed by if they hugged me. If they showed confusion, fear or any kind of distress, I would immediately be freaking out, because if they don't know the stranger, most likely I don't know them either and it's an issue.

Okay that is more understandable but as someone who also has the freeze response you wouldn't want to wait for reaction i want to and it's better if people train themselves to hit instantly if you feel in danger rather than waiting and checking
