It’s explaining the Cornell sexual assault and rape scandal. 7 frat members intoxicated and raped 1 girl for 7 hours in frat house. Rather than being punished, they were told to write essays. It’s pretty fucked up.

Apparently one guy was texting the group chat that she was fully available for sex after coercing her to take ketamine. So they were taking turns unfortunately.

A group chat that had almost 60 members, and advertised “free pussy” from a drugged woman.

And people are actually defending it too, splitting hairs about whether or not she consented at one point, and what she said in her initial report to a dismissive college cop.
As if that matters in a case where she was blacked out and gang raped.

Well luckily (unlike in most cases), their names will forever be attached to this event.
It's so revolting that so many people jump to defend people like this. It's clear that a huge percentage of men see women as sex toys who unfortunately know how to speak.

I see we're talking about Brock Allen Turner.
Is this the Brock Allen Turner who was tried by Santa Clara judge, and Rape Apologist, Aaron Persky? Who sentenced Turner to 6 months out of a possible max of 14 years, because any longer “would have a severe impact on Brock”.
The Brock Allen Turner, whose father Dan Turner, seems to not believe rape is even a real thing? The Dan Turner, who said Brock's sentence was (literal quote) "... a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action". Which many people think is an utterly inexcusable way to describe a brutal sexual assault.
The same Brock Allen Turner whose mother, Carleen Turner wrote a 4 page letter to the judge explaining what a nice boy Brock was? Because, y'know, swimming medals and Cub Scouts and such. And since Brock was so nice (other than the raping) that he shouldn't get any jail time at all, because the "trauma" of the guilty verdict was punishment enough.
Just checking it's the same Brock Allen Turner.

I'd love to hear an interview from that guy- anonymous or not, because I've heard conflicting info there. Some sources say he sent it weeks later, which is helpful but makes you wonder at his motives- was he worried about getting caught or just realizing he had info that could help? Did he send it then, or the next day when he woke up like some other sources have said?
I'm grateful either way, and even if he did it for selfish reasons, I think we probably should protect him, even if its just for the sake of future boys and men seeing that we care if they do the right thing

The cop report really gets me. The cops are really downplaying that she came to them about a crime. If you think about it they're are saying two things: someone came to us about a drugging and rape and we ignored it OR that this woman came to them to inform them that she did a lot of drugs and said sex for no reason at all and knew she wouldn't be arrested (?).
168
u/RandomUsernameNo257 16h ago
EXACTLY. I've heard so many people trying to argue that she essentially went to campus police and was like "yo guys I had the ca-RAZIEST night!"
But it shouldn't be surprising that the same people who don't understand consent also don't understand any kind of nuance, and that a vulnerable girl who has just had her world turned upside down can be influenced to modify and downplay her own story by an authority figure who is intentionally seeding doubt. Something like:
"So.. they forced you to take the drugs?"
"well, no, but"
"ok, so you took the drugs willingly"
"well I mean, yeah, but they really pressu.."
"ok and then did you tell them that you didn't want to have sex?"
"well, I mean, not like that, but"
"ok, so what I'm hearing is that you made some decisions that you regret"
and at that point, is anyone really going to expect her not to fold? This kind of thing happens all the time.

u/Pure-Thought-6554 15h ago
Literally yes! I used to work at a hotel overnight. One night this girl called down crying and asking for help and I heard a man screaming at her that he was going to kill her and other horrible things. I immediately called 911 and started to go up but thankfully the guy spooked when he heard my voice on the phone and she was able to come down. I let her stay in the back while the cops came.
When the cops finally came it was like 8 men surrounding this poor girl in the lobby and grilling her exactly like you said.
“So did you come here to sleep with him?”
“What? I don’t know, we went on a date-“
“So you came back to his hotel room to sleep with him?”
“I don’t know, not exactly-“
“Did he pay you to sleep with him?”
Yes they literally asked that. This girl had marks and bruises already forming on her arms from him grabbing her and I told them everything I had heard and they still had decided she was a prostitute. And even if she was, which she wasn’t, that doesn’t mean she deserved to be abused?? She denied it and got angry and uncooperative after that (because of course, literally anyone wouldn’t) and they just LEFT. They just left this poor girl at a hotel with no ride or car with the man that abused her and left marks on her still up in his room. None of those 8 cops could give her a ride home? I got her an uber and it was literally a 10 min drive.
Evil shit like this happens ALL THE TIME.

I was involved in a court case as a witness (and victim) when I was 16/17 years old. Questioning like this caused me to panic and I ended up agreeing to exclude half my statement. To this day I can’t make sense of that time

u/HaterMD 6h ago
The only time I was ever offered a ride home by a cop I was with my cousin and we were both underage. He got aggressive and half-jumped out of his car when I told him I lived nearby, thank you, we’re good, officer. If it wasn’t for the fact his radio crackled I’m pretty sure he would’ve confirmed his “I’m a big rapey weirdo” vibes.
He snorted and peeled out of there. It was very sinister and weird. It doesn’t help we’re both visibly Indigenous. 😬

So if I get consent for a woman to take a rufie - I can violate her seven ways to Sunday and it's "legal"? That is insane. I think it should specify you had to consent and remain conscious.
66
u/ManikPixieDreamGhoul 14h ago
Hey, that actually happened to me and yeah, you’d be surprised at the energy they come at a victim with. Without going into heavy, upsetting detail, they talked about me, a minor who was lied to, lured away by an adult and coerced into accepting a beer (that of course I didn’t know was roofied), like I was the one in trouble for being there and accepting the beer, a timid kid with straight A’s and no record treated like I was a delinquent. I just wanted it to be over and that scared me into shutting up real quick. Apparently you’re supposed to say no even if you can’t form a thought and black out. 🤷♀️ My mistake.
But that’s why I personally fully believe her story. It’s hard to fathom how disorienting and overwhelmingly overpowering being drugged like that really is until it happens to you. By the time you realize you’re in trouble, you’re pretty much a prisoner in your body if even still conscious. And then, when you’re reeling, horrified and want to scrub your skin off, piecing together details of a living nightmare from fuzzy snippets of memory and secondhand accounts, you’re supposed to advocate for yourself to someone who is supposed to be helping you but talks to you like that? No way.
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (2)26
u/ScottRiqui 15h ago
No, your instinct is correct. Even if you’ve willingly become intoxicated, you can’t consent if you’re unconscious, or conscious but unaware of your situation/circumstances.

u/shutupyourenotmydad 14h ago
Which like, if it was a single guy that she literally said, "I want to do Ketamine and have sex" then that's fine. But even if that were the case (which it clearly wasn't) the fact that she was being passed around like an object is still insanely illegal, immoral, and downright vile.
Ever notice how you never hear any good news about fraternities?
16
u/WallysGeolocation 10h ago
Correct me if I'm wrong here - but it sounds like she was genuinely interested in the first guy and went to see him.
The problem is that he coerced her into taking ketamine then invited a bunch of other guys to have sex with her.
And conservatives are using the first fact (she wanted to have sex with the first guy) to say the second fact (she was then drugged and raped) is okay.
→ More replies (1)7
u/Ill-Refuse-7834 7h ago
You are not wrong. She was interested in one guy and he asked her if she wanted to do a threesome, which I believe she didn't say yes too. Either she didn't answer OR she said no. Then he coerced her to do ketamine and "have sex" with two dudes. After he was bored with her he started texting everyone that there was "free pussy" in the house.

u/TheAsianTroll 11h ago
Maybe she consented at one point, but consent is withdrawn whenever the person wants to, and automatically done so when theyre too inebriated to actually consent.
You know, like if theyre passed out from ketamine.
If she consented to drinks and maybe sex with one guy, anything beyond that is nonconsensual, especially she went unconscious. Anyone defending these guys are stupid and dont actually understand how consent works.

I transfered to a small university and missed out on the pretty intense freshman bonding that goes on there.
A fraternity was a way for me to get plugged in to a larger friend group and secure housing.
That's not unusual at that university because 1/3 of the student body was in Greek Life (it was invented there) and so the fraternities and sororities operated a bit more like "houses" and less like "secret sex cults."
My fraternity experience was very nice and very boring.
21
u/Oph1d1an 15h ago
Yea same. My school had a huge percentage of people in Greek life. It was essentially a nicer place to live than the dorms and a built-in friend group. My fraternity could best be described as a 4 year long smash bros tournament. We were a bunch of nerds. It wasn’t anything like the culture described in this case

Their inaction was despicable and unconscionable, but likely not illegal. In the U.S., there are no general “duty to report” laws, or laws requiring you to provide aid to a person who’s not present with you.
Also, inaction doesn’t satisfy the requirements for “aiding or abetting,” “obstruction of justice,” “hindering prosecution,” or make you an “accessory after the fact.” All of those require a concrete action on your part, not merely inaction.

This is being brought up now (it allegedly happened in 2024) because the victim had recently filed Civil lawsuit, and off that the DA office reopened the criminal case that they never properly investigated in 2024 because they essentially relied on the Campus police “work.” Those essays were the schools response back then

12
u/boredporn 7h ago
You’re like five hours behind on the news. It has also come out that the DA was either incompetent or straight up lied. The DA report claims that the victim never stated that she was raped, however the victims initial police report was recently released, and in it she states that she had a consensual threesome, and then was drugged and non-consensually gangraped.

That's a slippery slope. There are no duty to report crime laws in a general sense in the US. There are laws about concealment of evidence. Is a text message evidence saying a girl is available for a gang bang? Even if it turns out later to be gang rape?
The issue with expelling people from college is not that you wreck their lives, it's that they sue the ever-living fuck out of you, and you settle just to stop the PR blood-loss.

That's assuming every single person was actively monitoring the group chat. Most people are parts of social media groups, whether it be Snapchat groups, Discord servers, etc. that they only check once in a blue moon.
The 7 gang-rapists getting off with a slap on the wrist is abhorrent enough as is, spreading the "50 PEOPLE KNEW AND DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING" narrative is just mindlessly fueling outrage (when the actual story is already outrage-worthy as is!) and obscuring the truth of what actually happened.

Not that it excuses the fraternity brothers in the chat at all, but the chat conversation in question was started at about 1:45 AM, when at least some of the fraternity brothers were passing out drunk and on other drugs.
The damning thing is that the other fraternity brothers didn't tell authorities in the morning after sobering up and seeing the chat, more than that they didn't inform the police or that they didn't go to the room to stop the incident when the chat was opened that night.

She literally wasn’t. Read her signed affidavit, it’s only six pages. She was never unconscious and took all the drugs willingly.
The amount of blatant lies spreading about this story is abhorrent. You would sentence 7 men to death over a case that you know very little about.

Someone’s taking the drugs willingly doesn’t make it not rape though.

Right? Anyone that dares bring actual facts in when people are busy spreading their misinformation is being told they are no different than any of the men involved here.
Like, so many people keep saying Cornell only made them write essays, but that's not true, two were expelled. I dared mention this in a reply earlier and was told that 'me and my friends should NOT be around women' (I'm a gay man so it's extra weird that that's where they went lol)
It's totally ridiculous and kinda scary.

It’s kind of weird that the university had anything to do with them being punished. They should be in jail. Simple as that. I mean, of course expulsion makes sense, but wtf

Universities take over disciplinary action when a DA refuses to prosecute, or the allegations aren't illegal but a violation of a code of conduct.

Wtf police didn't get involved?
32
u/Crab-_-Objective 18h ago
My understanding from what I’ve read is this and may be wrong/incomplete.
Campus police did get involved and at Cornell they are fully sworn police officers with full police powers. Some form of investigation happened including Jane Doe gave a statement about what happened.
The school is saying that the full investigation was sent to the DA while the DA is now saying that there was stuff missing that they didn’t know about. The DA decided in 2024 not to pursue charges based off Jane Doe’s statement and the other evidence not showing proof of rape. NY law says that if you willingly consume drugs/alcohol that it does not remove your ability to consent by itself.
Jane Doe has now filed a civil lawsuit over the incident and the DA is reopening the case because what her current lawsuit says doesn’t match her original statement.
The school did a further Title IX investigation which is where the essays thing came from along with the expulsions. My best guess is that nobody got expelled for the alleged rape but due to the absurd amount of ketamine that was present.
→ More replies (1)17
u/Stephie999666 17h ago
I dont think people understand how ketamine works. Its a dissociative drug. We give it to violent patients in a prehospital setting. Best way to sum it up, it breaks the link between the brain and the bodies actions. So youre fully aware and concious but you body doesnt really do what you want anymore. IMO a person cannot really consent to sex with the sheer amount they apparently did.

Okay comments like this mean well but you aren't really helping. Tones of the people reading this thread have done K at parties and stuff, you do not automatically become unable to control yourself. As a medical person, you should know that dosage matters. It would be more helpful if you stated what the amount actually was and what typical doses are. So we could see "wow thats completely fucked".

They did. The story she gave the police in 2024 did not amount to rape. According to her statements, she willingly had sex, willingly took drugs, and when she told the guys no, they stopped. There's even text messages from her to one of the guys telling him next time they'll keep it a 3 some. She's just recently changed her story for the Civil courts. We don't know what really happened, I'm just giving context.

2024 gang rape at Cornell University. The case involves seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity, often referred to as the "Cornell 7," who are accused of drugging and sexually assaulting the 20-year-old woman over several hours at the fraternity house on October 19, 2024.

As a member of a fraternity, I’ve seen chapters of various organizations nationwide get shuttered for way less. The existence of a group chat and the other members’ failure to intervene in this situation is another example of a Code of Silence. While only a few might’ve committed the actual crime, many had the opportunity (or obligation, depending on what kind of a person you are) to intervene and didn’t. Very similar to the emergence ACAB movement a few years back.
Shutter them.

It was reopened specifically because she's suing the school, which is fair, and she should take the school for as much as she can for what she went through.
As for why criminal charges weren't filed against the seven? The prosecutor found evidence that gives enough reasonable doubt that they chose not to prosecute.
This is why only 10 to 20% of cases actually result in a conviction by the way. Because sexually violent crime leaves so little evidence that with our justice system set up as it is usually can't find enough rock solid evidence to convince a jury of 12 people beyond A reasonable doubt that it happened. It fucking sucks.
Edit: huh, I looked it up and they're actually sending what evidence that they do have to a Grand Jury to see if criminal charges will be formally brought against the seven.
8
u/mistake444 13h ago
I don’t think the DA looked for any evidence. They said that according to the victims 6 page statement about the events, no crime occurred. So there was no use looking for evidence because proving the victim’s statement true wouldn’t result in anything.

42
u/OkContact2573 18h ago
The main problem (and while she may win civil, she is probably gonna fail criminal) is that the DA and the Police did jack shit to investigate the crimes, so we have probably lost most of the evidence by now.
The best case is that they actually wrote the essay and we gett a record of the uni's decison making process.

And the way its being presented online had me, admittedly, sharpening my pitchfork, until I also looked further into it. I'm reserving full judgements till the case unfolds further, but it really isn't as simple as saying "7 guys graped someone" but it's also not as simple as "these guys are completely innocent". It feels like there's wildly varying degrees of how each man interacted with her, from no physical contact at all, to consensual threesome(s) so "Cornell 7" framing also doesn't sit right with me. And it's hard to have this good faith discussion at all in most online spaces without being labeled an abuse enabler etc. Not to tinfoil hat this but it just feels so conveniently timed around midterms and I don't mean to be dismissive of serious accusations.

She was under the false impression that she couldn’t have consented while under the influence and was extremely regretful of what had happened after she became known on campus for it. She went to the police, described what had happened in detail, and both then and the DA correctly determined that none of what she had said was rape or violated New York law. In New York, drunk people can absolutely consent to sex so long as they aren’t unconscious l.

I don’t know who is lying , or if anyone is , but given the girls statements in 2024, which her lawyers confirm are correctly reported by the police.
They were correct for not pressing any criminal charges imo. At that point all you had was a single girl saying she willingly and voluntarily did drugs and had consenaul sex with a bunch of guys.
There was no way anyone could press charges at all.

u/dm3030 18h ago
DA re-opened the case this week. I’d imagine charges are coming, finally.
73
u/ZealousidealType1144 18h ago
If you read the DA’s statement (which was written to defend his office, of course) there’s going to be a huge bar to clear on pressing charges - which is that she attested under oath in a written statement that she took the drugs voluntarily and consented to the sexual activities (at least with regards to NY law at the time, which didn’t find voluntary intoxication to be an impediment to consent).
Civil burden of proof is lower and she’ll likely see a settlement or a judgement from the school and the 7, but even with a special prosecutor it’s really hard to see charges being brought.
You’ll probably see NY change their laws though.

u/DeucesX22 18h ago
This is also how I see it. No real punishment but the school will face backlash and there will be a settlement. I dont know about ny state changing their laws though. Substances usage is a complex subject and falls in a very grey area in terms of legality and responsibility.
38
u/Edward_Durr 17h ago
Not really, under New York law it is very clear that so long as you willfully took the substances (which she said she did), you are able to consent even while under the influence.

Doubtful, rape cases essentially do not get charged if there was voluntary consumption of drugs and alcohol by the victim. "Due to this case, a New York state law) known as the "voluntary intoxication loophole" attracted renewed criticism. It prevents individuals accused of rape from being prosecuted if the alleged victim willingly consumed intoxicating substances before the incident."

Her testimony at the time said that she did everything consensually. She even texted at least one of the supposed perpetrators and reassured him that they didn't do anything illegal and that she liked being with him. There have been several high profile college rape cases that were later found to be fabricated by the supposed victim. This one really seems like the others. They are reopening the case. If I'm wrong and they did what she alleged, then I hope they are punished to the full extent of the law. I just would hate to see their lives ruined if the allegations turn out to be false.
118
u/funkofanatic99 17h ago
More of the statement released today shows that though she admitted to the intoxication and it starting consensual she did not agree to the other activities and stated I can “say with 100% confidence I was raped,”. It appears the the full transcript somehow did not make it to the DA and Cornell sent a summarized version where this was excluded.

- why did she even go to the police at the time if there wasnt a crime?
- why did she say it was all consensual?
- Ive heard a lot of weird and contradictory information.
- This is going to be one where everyone jumps to conclusions one way or anther and states things for a fact that they dont actually know.
It doesnt make a lot of sense. Hopefully there will be a full investigation and they find the truth.

There is ambiguity around the first two guys she slept with because they were all drinking and doing drugs together. However, before she started losing consciousness, she only consented to sleep with two guys, and denied a third. Then they proceeded to do more drugs and she started blacking out.
Everyone after that is far more suspect. They don't have the excuse of also being impaired and entangled with her during the evening. They showed up, likely much more sober than she was, and decided to assault a woman who couldn't consent.
A lot of the criticism being directed at the group chat also doesn't make much sense because the message went out in the middle of the night, after many members of the frat were proven to be asleep or passed out, and the message doesn't indicate distress or anything underhanded. It could very well be read to mean that a woman willing to sleep with anyone was in the house. So assuming that all 50 of those guys should have caught it immediately, known that an assault was taking place, and intervened just doesn't add up.
64
u/Inside-Smell-2695 17h ago
Its about an alleged rape of a girl by 7 cornell frat members. It’s difficult to reach a quick conclusion because she previously testified two years ago the sexual acts were consensual, she enjoyed being with two specific men, and asked to have a threesome. She willingly snorted ketamine off a dude’s dick but after being kicked out of her sorority shes taking back her testimony to allege rape.
72
u/Relative_Maize_957 17h ago

From the deposition "Yes. It was coercion, yes," adding that she was "completely and totally incapacitated"
And i'm SURE the police didn't mishandle or disregard a young woman being assaulted- there aren't countless examples of that!
Fraternity guys group chatting 'free pussy' and a photo of her are just good bros! Frats aren't the most likely place for young women to be sexually assaulted at college, where 1 in 3 women experience some form of sexual assault- and those numbers are underreported.
Drinking doesn't mean she consented. Taking drugs- and being given them repeatedly while drunk- doesn't mean it's consent- and anyone who saw the "Free pussy upstairs" and "Shop still open?" text followed by HOURS of rape by multiple men and think this isn't so cut and dry- consciously or unconsciously hates women or loves rapists.

she consented to a threesome in a private room with no other men watching or taking part. She did NOT consent to those two men then offering her up like a sex doll.
The 5 men who came into the room AFTER she was incapacitated from drugs and alcohol raped her. She did not consent.
The wording of the message says a lot. It didn't say "Hey guys, X is up for some group action, want to play?" implying that it was something the victim knew about and consented to. It didn't even mention the victim at all. She wasn't a person to them, she was simply a body part. "Free pussy" removes the humanity from the victim and tells the other men "come and have a go on this sex toy".
I'm a woman and the stupid shit I've done when drunk makes from grim reading. I've put myself in ridiculously vulnerable positions and somehow managed to only encounter nice men who took care of me instead of assaulting me. Plenty of men see a vulnerable young woman and choose to get her to safety without hurting her. These 7 men chose not to see the victim as a woman but as an object

I know I’m gonna get downvoted into oblivion, but before we ruin 7 men’s lives, per the New York Times, “In New York, accusers who chose to drink or take drugs have a high burden of proving they were unable to consent. The way the law is written now, people who were voluntarily intoxicated cannot claim they were mentally incapacitated during an assault, unless they can show they were physically helpless.” Per her original report, she consented to everything, and they stopped when she told them to. She also texted Male 1 two days later and “wrote that she liked being with him and another man and later suggested that they smoke together again, ‘but like leave out the extra 5 billion men and ketamine.’” (Huffington Post)

Her original statement said that she had sex with 2 dudes then a 3rd man asked to join, and she said yes. Then later she continued with the original 2 men and 4 more came upstairs asking her to fuck. She told them no, and they left. Then on a later date she messaged the original 2 dudes that she had fun and wanted to do it again just only with them though.
People are just making up that she was raped by 7 dudes for 7 hours while being blackout. Even SHE didn't say that happened.
People lose all control of their emotions when rape is mentioned, and start acting like screeching monkeys making up whatever scenario they want in their heads.

It’s a reference to the lawsuit against Cornell University for allegedly covering up a gang rape.
- “0 Help” - Presumably the lack of aid for the alleged victim?
- “1 Groupchat” - The biggest piece of evidence right now is a screenshot of the fraternity’s group chat, where somebody (Presumably one of the two ringleaders) talked about “Free Pussy”.
- “2 Expelled” - Of the seven accused perpetrators, two were expelled.
- “5 Essays” - The five that weren’t expelled were only made to write essays.
- “7 Hours” - How long the alleged incident lasted.
- “7 Students” - As mentioned earlier, there were seven accused perpetrators.
