Suicide is probably the answer I'm guessing.

Why do you say that? Is this a joke or what?

u/SiriHowDoIAdult 17h ago
Its sort of an anti joke. Gotta drop what youre doing and bolt before they attempt. The late night revelation from the HB that he's gotta tell his friends he loves them in the most home boy way possible before he leaves this earthly realm

u/Real_Life_Sushiroll 15h ago
What does HB mean?

You know, I'm for once glad that redditors are confused and have never had this experience. Shit's crazy

It's a lot easier for males to open up about their feelings and say personal things when they're on the way out.

It’s pretty standard for people who have friends that fit a suicidal stereotype I guess (man it’s fucked there’s so many suicidal people out there that there are stereotypes).
I’ve had these late night texts from mates who have never said a kind thing (I grew up in the ghetto we are raised to believe that kindness is weakness) and they are finally opening up before a suicide attempt or some sort of mental break down. It is rarely good news. Often involves large amounts of drugs.
This is how a lot of the guys react. If you’re in to music I would recommend a song called Bourbon and Coke by Homebrew. Kinda addresses the subject, always reminds me of my bro’s and makes me grateful for the times when we made it through. Suicide by Ren is more well known and a great song. There’s a lot of people out there dealing with these situations.

in 2003 i got a similar message on my answering machine that was drowned out by several spam messages. I wish i could have saved the tape, but it was over recorded by my parent's work call messages and random scammers calling us. I attended his funeral several days later, to only listen to the priest condemning him to hell for his act. So Much Love.

What the shit, isn’t Christianity supposed to be about forgiveness and shit‽
1
u/templar54 8h ago
Suicide is considered a sin in Christianity. Very much blame the victim mentality.

What killed hitler?
13
u/Available_Bag_3843 13h ago
Say what you will about Hitler, but you have to admit that, in the end, he was the guy that killed Hitler.

u/Red_Bayanist 12h ago
Honestly I am really interested on what it would be like if Hitler could have had a trial. Everyone else at Nuremberg said they were following orders, it was Hitler idea, etc. Amazing how not a single one was proud, you would think if you kill so many people you would have believed. Cowards all of them, but I want to know who would Hitler blame?
2
u/templar54 8h ago
Probably he would be raving madman, about his nonsense ideological ideas or would blame his subordinates twisting his words. It really depends why he killed himself, was it " my dream is gone and therefore there is not point to living" or "If they catch me alive it is not going to end well for me, therefore I will go out on my own terms.".
1
u/Red_Bayanist 7h ago
Yeah he may have been thinking one of those things when he killed himself. But yeah he was a drug addicted mad man… god knows what’s he was thinking

I was trying to figure out what HB stood for but I definitely didnt come up with any of those clever assumptions. Did better than me.

That’s the fun part of not being able to spell words! You can make acronyms that allow your readers to make the story your own. Very Tarantino of them to do this.

Cleveland here.
People at their lowest point will sometimes text people who are important to them about how special they are to them before attempting to commit suicide.
Said people they text will then usually go above and beyond to prevent said suicide and it is illustrated here as superheroes going as fast as they possibly can to prevent it.

I didn't. He did this so many times I stopped taking it seriously. Turns out he was still serious about it. I also would not go through that stuff again.

Cry for help, homeboy's at the end of his rope.
Try your best to check up on your buds, especially if you know they're struggling.

HB = homeboy. guy friends don't send sentimental bullshit like this to each other normally, so when it does happen its a huge red flag that the sender is about to commit suicide and needed the receiver to know that they made life bearable.

Dude is either about to die or about to kill himself. Sending the message late at night ensures that the recipient isn't awake to respond. "I always thought of you as a brother" also very much sounds like a goodbye

My best friend tried this exact thing. I saved his life that night he was going through a rough time he has since gotten therapy and doing much better

The day the homie sends me a polite message and nothing homosexual, racist, or just straight up insulting/threatening eachother is the day we check up on him.

u/Rifken1 15h ago
Wif wand I were dating I believe when a friend of hers, that was having a rough time, sent a message about how she loved her and though of her as a sister. I put my fork down and said we have to go. We left the restaurant and went straight to her friend's house. She was in the garage with the windows down and the car running.
Friend is still with us almost twenty years later. You do run like hell when you get that message. Something just clicks to go check.

Someone I had a beef with randomly sent a "sorry for everything" on a random night.
I wish I had acted or called his friends to check up on him.

HB is about to kill himself. The friends ain't gonna let that happen, and they'll run like hell to do it.

u/Resident-Magician181 7h ago
Homeboy is probably gonna commit suicide and wants his friends to know how he thought of them before he can’t say it ever again.

During the pandemic I got really drunk and was happily sending people on Discord messages about about how much they meant to me at 2am. I was just grateful for having a group of friends during lockdown. Imagine my surprise when I wake up to 50+ DMs from said people.

a message I was too late to see. I'll never forgive the people that drove him to it

u/McGills-Pop 2h ago
I never got the text. Just the phone call after 4am after he was found by his little brother in the car. I wish he would've just texted.

I got one of these a couple years ago. A friend and member of my MMO guild messaged me on discord right as I was lying down to sleep with the "Hey man, thanks for running all those events for us, I had a good time at them." My blood pressure spiked, and I was already in the car getting ready to make the 4 hour drive to Chicago when I heard back from the others that he was just leaving the guild for a different one. (he came back a few months later, lol)
