They shouldn’t be afraid if they didn’t do anything wrong

u/Jumpy_Fuel_1060 3h ago
I was thinking this during the Jack Smith hearing. As I say listening to it, I grew frustrated. The contempt shown for Mr Smith was palpable through the screen.
The primary concern seemed to be non disclosure around the toll records, and them feeling targeted. Instead of having a deeper discussion about that to address the why, they just didn't have it.
Senator Britt's concern was Mr Smith not looking into the partisaness of the investigation that came before him. Didn't give him a chance to speak and address it or have a discussion about it. The thing that bugged me most about it, was that Mr Smith was not doing the typical "talk about something else, insult the question, and run out the clock" games that we've seen recently. He was thoughtful, direct, and stick to the question.
Senator Schmitt? Well, I think we all know how that went. If Senator Schmitt's had better lines of questioning, he would've used them. Instead we got whatever that was. Senator Hawley was similar, just threats and unsubstantiated accusations.
I just don't know what was going on in that hearing. If Mr Smith had been partisan, let him talk and expose himself. That hearing was the opposite of that. I went into that hearing thinking he has was a good prosecutor. After listening to that hearing, I think he is a world class prosecutor that was driving for the truth.
19
u/no_one_c4res 2h ago
The whole affair was clearly an attempt to trap Smith into perjury. That's why they were trying to get him angry so he thinks less before answering. It is obvious that the Republicans had marching orders from Trump, he is obsessed about punishing anyone who crossed him.
Smith didn't invoke the 5th and answered every question that was asked. They failed.

And how long did those Benghazi hearings run?
48
u/uberares 3h ago
IKR, from the party that brought you Benghazi, "how dare you do it back to me!!"
God they are insufferable. Why in the f so many people support them still is beyond me.
21
17
u/Own_Candidate9553 3h ago
And it's not "doing it back to them". That would mean Democrats are running fake investigations into innocent people, trying to dig up anything.
Even if you disregard all the crimes Trump and Co are doing in plain sight, Trump's wealth has gone up exponentially since he took office. How? If anything he should have less time to run his businesses, right? At minimum shouldn't someone look into where all that money came from?
Same with his cabinet, all of his family members, all the other goobers dipping their hands into our money. Elon and DOGE alone should have its own investigative committee.
6
5
u/Matt_cruze 2h ago
There were ten investigations into the Benghazi matter: one by the FBI; one by an independent board commissioned by the State Department; two by Democrat-controlled Senate Committees; and six by Republican-controlled House Committees.
After the first five Republican investigations found no evidence of wrongdoing by senior Obama administration officials, Republicans in 2014 opened a sixth investigation, the House Select Committee on Benghazi, chaired by Trey Gowdy.
This investigation also failed to find any evidence of wrongdoing by senior Obama administration officials.
A possible political motive for the investigation was revealed on September 29, 2015, when Republican House majority leader Kevin McCarthy, then vying to become Speaker of the House, told Sean Hannity on Fox News that the investigation was part of a "strategy to fight and win,' adding "Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee.
What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping."[252][253] The United States Marines responsible for State Department security,[254] the security lapse was called "the result of opportunism" in 2012 by Carney.[255]

Yeah, I know this is a one-sided propaganda campaign because it's Fox, but the logical response to anyone making this stupid point about impeachments is simple:
What's the other option? More collapse? More of this monumental disaster that has been this congress and this presidential administration? The crux of what Congress has "accomplished" in these two years has been "Give all of our power to a guy who very likely has dementia"

As a Canadian, impeachment of Trump, arrests of him and his entire cabinet, and a solid plan backed by legislation/ constitutional amendments of how this can never happen again, are all required to even begin trusting the US again.

This is for people who don't understand it takes a 2/3 majority in the Senate which is completely unrealistic for the midterms. Which apparently includes a lot of liberals. I'm all for prosecuting Trump and his administration but it's simply not happening in the next two years.

What every reasonable person in a rule of law society desires is that honesty and fairness prevail and those who committed crime be brought to justice throughout the duration of our life.
It is not a matter of going after the president and his orbit but the justice system tasked with pursuing criminality and bringing those whom have committed crime fulfilling its mandate.
That upholding the rule of law that is a backbone to our society may result in a swath of the Trump orbit facing legitimate legal consequence is just an outcome of properly administered justice.

That is enough to get them to double down and continue to vote against their best interests and the success of this country. This from the party that claims to be patriots.
