I'm aware it's a joke, buuuut technically: Sorcerers have innate, bloodline-driven magic and use Charisma, while wizards gain their powers through rigorous scholarly study and use Intelligence.

Technically that is only true within the context of Dungeons and Dragons which has no bearing on what the distinction might be within the MCU.
4
u/RichesToRags8647 12h ago
Not only D&D, but I agree on the latter further in the comments. I just thought it was a fun comment to make.
14
u/Head-Ad-2136 10h ago
Sorcerer is a synonym for wizard that didn't take on the "innately magical" definition until the release of 3rd edition Dungeons and Dragons in 2000
3
u/SeanyDay 6h ago
And 3e (and 3.5e) are the best edition and shall be treated as the gospel truth of lord gygax and all the nerds across the land!
21
u/Boil-Degs 16h ago
Teeeeeechnically a sorcerer's magic can come from sources outside of their bloodline. A sorcerer is a magic user whose magic is an innate talent or gift rather than having learned it through study or gained it through worship.

Best bit is, Dom Holland (Tom's Dad) IS a celebrity
He's been on the UK Comedy circuit for decades and he's v good
Def recommend looking up his stand up sets
The face he's pulling is 1000% comedy genius to maximize Tom's embarrassment and I'm so here for it hahah
138
u/Bluefooted-Spaceorc 18h ago
Yeah, my dad loves me more than anything on this earth and I think his favorite moments are watching me tomato with embarrassment. His wedding speech was something else.

The mother fucker (literally) told the tail of when I brought my partner home for the first time. There was an earthquake, we all (my six siblings, parents, partner and I) ended up outside with my partner and I in a situation of undress. If you grew up without teenage sisters I envy you, they are brutal.
18
u/SK_Nerd 12h ago
I saw a clip of his dads stand up recently. He says "we've got three kids. All boys! And I know you're not supposed to have a favorite but... well, when of them is Spider-Man..."

Dom Holland? He was up all night brainstorming for names for his son, wasn't he...

u/Legitimate_Stage2941 20h ago
Just for those not aware, Dom Holland (Toms dad) is one of THE best English stand-up comedians in the business. This guy almost killed me, as I was laughing so hard at his live standup years ago, that I couldn’t breathe. Just as I felt like I had a slight bit of air to breathe in, he slams another line that had me doubled over laughing. The guy is amazing, and highly reccomend watching his stuff.

Emma Watson is one of the prettiest women on the planet.
What is the expectation? All men should avert their eyes when beautiful people are in their presence?? She's literally walking directly in front of him.
59
u/GolotasDisciple 19h ago
No expectations... but a photo taken in a moment that might be completely out of context, while still being extremely suggestive, is really funny...

u/dojo_shlom0 19h ago
call me crazy, but I don't think he is smiling because of this?
maybe because he watched those movies/read the books with his son and it's fun seeing her with his son there and because his sons an actor now it's just a cool moment. I don't think his old dad is looking at her and grinning because she's so beautiful or the most beautiful on the planet. tbh, she isn't; and who cares? I just can't see that being the reason he's grinning hah.
3
u/Open-Platform-1305 17h ago
tbh, she isn't
You're gonna have to back that up mate. Girl has been top dog for years.

I think he's looking past her, honestly, but my point extends beyond this specific image.
Looking at attractive people in public is almost evolutionarily involuntary, and it's laughable to even insinuate that there could be anything problematic about it inherently.
People find people attractive. We don't get to pick who we find attractive, and equally, we don't get to pick who finds us attractive.
If someone is actively leering at you and staring at your body, then yes, they are absolutely a creep and you have every reason to be upset.
But if someone briefly checks you out upon noticing you and then goes about their day, you really have no valid reason to be upset - even if you don't find them attractive.
By existing in public, you consent to be seen by the public.
I don't think Tom Holland's dad was checking out Emma Watson in this picture. I'm just saying that if he was, there would be literally nothing inherently wrong with that. It's okay to check people out.

Men’s sexuality is being shamed…
You can admire the fact that a woman looks good. Without being “%100” a creep.
And fuck. If a sexual thought creeps up. You can’t control it.
It’s so dumb. It’s so ironic that in the age of “love is love” men can’t show any attraction without being labelled a creep.

Also: there is different levels of pretty. She is not bleached hair- big tits -type pretty. She is beautiful face - classy - type pretty. she is also a quite good actor and seems to be a genuinely decent human being.
But what bothers me even more: I feel like we somehow jumped from rightfully shaming cat calling and creepy stares to somehow shaming people that look happy while talking to/looking at a other human being - as soon as that being is a woman- and I hate it.
The scene looks like two people being open and welcoming to each other. It looks normal to me.

Funny enough, I'm willing to bet Tom is averting his eyes precisely to avoid any accusations which is annoying and dumb. I think Dad is just stoked to see her. This society really has some serious puritanical hangups.

See a beautiful person and you get all flustered. Literally happened to me the other day at work. A woman approached me who was a straight 10/10. Looked like she walked right out of a Victorias Secret catalog. And I couldn't even speak to her properly. She was asking me questions that I definitely knew and I couldn't compose myself.
