She asked for a firing squad and was denied. In hindsight, wouldn’t that have been the better option?

Yes, because the marksmen have to be certified whereas the person setting up the cannula cannot be a licensed medical professional by definition.

Oh, well, of course everything looks bad if you remember it. - Homer

This is what I don't get. How can it be cruel and unusual if the person selects the method?

Why couldn't they just give her a gun and let her shoot herself?

Then no one has to deal with the ethical complications of shooting her while she's strapped down and not actively posing a threat to anyone.

And if she refuses to do so or turns the gun on someone?

How is it cruel to make someone go through pain being put to death after a jury trial? When, what she did to the person she murdered, is not cruel??

How does a murderer get spared pain and suffering, when the person she murdered went through all kinds of horrific horrors??

Please, try not to justify a murderer's pain and suffering. For what she did to the poor girl she murdered

What she did is cruel, and this is also cruel. Eye for an eye is the law of savages. To be better than the oafs of the past is to be civilized, for what is progress if we are not better than we were?

Eye for an eye is barbaric. Eye for an eye applied by the might of the state is not only barbaric, but dangerously stupid as well.

By your logic. Ppl should be able to kill whoever they please with no consequences?

There is reason we have law & order.

Ok, for ppl to murder? What about sex crimes? Where do you draw the line?

No one said “consequences are barbaric” they said “eye for an eye is barbaric” which is different.

Are you a child? There are a LOT of options between "no consequences" and "let's torture them, who cares".

When you murder, you deserve to be tortured.

for what purpose? satisfying a base desire for revenge? not everyone has that as some families are capable of forgiving and those with faith can see other options. so as a society we decide what is best for society. what function would locking someone up for a long time and attempting to rehabilitate serve for a society verus torturing them? I think that is one of the qualities of a society that is moving towards a better world where murder becomes less prevalent and that is what by and large has happened to our society.

To teach society, there are consequences for your actions.

Why have law & order, or police for that matter? Evidently you have never been bullied, or had a criminal commit a crime towards you.

of course ive had people do bad things to me. and again it seems that you have a hard time accepting a consequence can be something other than torture. having your freedom taken away from you is a consequence. but we have to be smart about what the consequences are as there are consequences to what we do in response as well.

This is Hammurabis Code from thousands of years ago. We have progressed past an eye for an eye.

That's normal in US. A lot of people here are very interested in murderers, what's going on with them. Pretty much no one cares about victims. I do not think anyone here would tell the name of the girl they beat, tortured and murdered, without searching for it. Pike even took a piece of her scull for good memories.

Judge should have to do it. Shouldn’t call for an execution if you’re not willing to administer it
