Engineering wise it only gets a c+, the gold flaired stopper will stop sliding as intended within a week of being in an outdoor environment, unless the whole mechanism is greased on an annual basis which just adds to the maintenance costs. I will admit it's a very artistic design but at the end it fails.

It's a fair point. Could both the err male side and err female side be housed and almost-sealed? Probably switching them round for simplicity so the complex part is on the fixed wall, and maybe the err female part is the one that err swings? Oh my!!
