miscellaneous [Funny Trope] a plot hole is addressed.
[Hotel Transylvania]
When Drac first meets Johnny, he's desperate to get rid of him so none of the guests or Mavis see him. While in a closet and Johnny is talking about something unrelated, he says to himself. "I can't kill him. It would set monsters back hundreds of years."
[Boss Baby]
When Tim is shown baby corp by Ted(yes, his name is technically boss baby but after hes back with the family at the end, his name is Ted), Ted reveals to Tim that Babies are all made at baby corp. Tim tellsTed what his parents told him about where babies come from, aka, the birds and the bees. Ted is grossed out.
[SpongeBob]
"But at least it's warm around the fire.
"Hey, if we're underwater, how can there be a-"

There was going to be a scene added in the 100 years Disney special (where they featured characters from every movie in Disney's history) where Izma flirted with Hercules, who was voiced in the LATAM dub had the voice of Ricky Martin, who she was most likely referring to in that scene

It's kind of funny how in Poland Kuzco, Chicken Little and Eugene from Tangled have the same voice.
Also curious they didn't manage to get him back for the Emperor's New School TV series but they got him back for the Tangled TV series.

I remember in the Polish dub of Shrek they changed the Muffin Man exchange between Gingy and Farquaad to "Żwirek kręci z Muchomorkiem" (which roughly means there's something sus in the relationship between Żwirek & Muchomorek; those two were from a Czech cartoon, originally named Křemílek and Vochomůrka).
It's a pretty iconic joke in Poland, even if it ruins the Muffin Man callback in Shrek 2. The transition back from that joke to the Muffin Man made no goddamn sense in Polish. Implying that Żwirek left Muchomorek for "some miller."
Yeah, that bit in Shrek 2 makes no sense in Polish. Why would looking at Gingy make Shrek think of Żwirek & Muchomorek? He wasn't even there during the torture scene in Shrek 1. And how do those two random buggers relate to the plan of making a giant Gingerbread Man? :P
Oh well. The translators had no way of predicting the plot of Shrek 2 back in 2001. Sometimes the most random things have unexpected consequences down the road.

Part of the reason for this was the drastic rewriting of the movie and crunch that followed. When they shifted from serious to goofy they had created this plot hole and rather than spend time to figure out how to fix it, they just added this gag to explain it away

Emperor's New Groove is amazing but god I sometimes wish we got to see Kingdom of the Sun
147
u/CaptainBananaAwesome Aug 30 '26
During the production of Emperors New Groove they chopped and changed the script so much that there wasn't a complete version of the script until AFTER the movie was released (the need to file a final copy away for legal purposes).
I'm speculating here, but I believe this joke was made because they worked on two acts of the movie separately and couldn't find a coherent way to make them meet.
53
u/Hikarizu42 Aug 30 '26
Not legal, but bureaucratic purposes. The guys at Disney wanted the script for the archives after release so the makers cobbled something that could be called a script.

Not that it matters but Yzma’s secret lab is at the bottom of the palace. Before you enter though, there is the “wrong level” trap door that may possibly be connected to the outside river around the palace (hence why they keep getting bit by crocodiles). Yzma and Kronk fell down the canyon into said river and probably swam to the passage which brings you back to the two levels. They were closer to the lab whilst Kusco and Pacha were still climbing to the main entrance and working their way down.
Oh well, back to business.

Swimming in gold coins is impossible.
This is (in some stories) explained by Scrooge simply knowing "the technique" to do it. In one story, the Beagle Boys attempt the same after seizing Scrooge's fortune, and simply knock themselves out trying to dive in.

u/Salty_Herring Aug 29 '26
In the reboot, the Louie also tries and gets stopped by Scrooge, who asks if he wants to crack his head open. He then explains that it requires specific technique and developed muscles to do.

I dunno, Scrooge is jacked. We're talking about a guy who can rend steel, if the steamboat destruction feat is anything off of which to go. His bone density has to be absurd. That said, you'd expect it to work on non-money materials, but apparently at least coal is a no-go. It's also odd that he needs to surface rather than breathe in the gold pile, like it briefly becomes liquid while he's in there? Starting to think this guy doesn't make total sense.

“In some stories.”
Actually, it first appeared in Scrooge’s first comic of his own: “Only a Poor Old Man” by Carl Barks.
There were some stories that came before that like “Christmas on Bear Mountain”, but “Only a Poor Old Man” was the first TRUE Scrooge story, and established his ability to swim in coins from the very beginning of his true branching out on his own.
It’s not a thing they decided to explain later, it’s part of his DNA, and the resolution you are speaking of actually happens in “Only a Poor Old Man.”
He wasn’t really the Scrooge we know before that. That comic introduced a good portion of his idiosyncrasies.

Solely to piggy back off OP’s SpongeBob reference because I love this Futurama bit when they’re on the bottom of the ocean:
Zoidberg: Oh! My home! It burned down! How did this happen?
Hermes: That’s a very good question.
Bender: So that’s where I left my cigar.
Hermes: That just raises further questions!

u/Own_Recommendation49 Aug 30 '26
Same episode, I love this bit too . . Leela: Depth at 45 hundred feet, 48 hundred, 50 hundred! 5000 feet!
Farnsworth: Dear Lord, that's over 150 atmospheres of pressure.
Fry: How many atmospheres can this ship withstand?
Farnsworth: Well it's a spaceship, so I'd say anywhere between zero and one.

It also represents one of my favorite things I learned about after the OceanGate disaster- tension and compression forces require entirely different materials to survive. The submersible was made out of carbon fiber, which is amazing for tension forces, but crap at handling compression like what is experienced by deep submergence vessels. The Planet Express ship was probably made out of a material closer to carbon fiber and would've imploded pretty quickly. Not that that's a gripe, I love Futurama and they lampshaded it perfectly.
28
u/AccurateJerboa Aug 30 '26
The day it happened, I knew immediately they were dead the second I heard they used carbon fiber. Pretty much anyone with too much interest in the ocean did.
The search and rescue was theater for the public. That material stretches and compresses enough that microfractures are inevitable. It would have happened no matter what, and the second they lost contact, they were gone.
And then we found out he got it at discount and sanded it down.
That man never should have been allowed to bring anyone else into that "vessel." It was always doomed.
More billionaires should follow his lead tbh

23
u/KeanGilbert Aug 30 '26
Assuming he means anyone with a heart. Murray’s heart is probably in a clay jar somewhere
25
u/UtopianEnforcement Aug 30 '26
Fun fact, the heart is the only internal organ NOT removed during mummification. It was seen as integral to the being and the seat of one of the forms of the soul, so it would remain in the body (still dehydrated, of course), so that - for example- the gods could weigh it against the Feather of Truth.
Embalmers could get into trouble if they damaged it in the process.
So Murray’s heart is still rattling around in there!
21
u/amaya-aurora Aug 30 '26
It always bothers me when people say “well actually a stake to the heart would kill anyone!” because no shit. But a guy who can get hit by a bus or shot point blank and survive having that one thing be able to kill him just like anyone else is pretty noteworthy and exceptional.

Interesting from Zuko’s perspective too. He met jet on the ship and helped him steal food for the refugees. Jet asked him to join the gang but Zuko said no. Later, jet becomes obsessed with proving that Zuko and Iroh are secretly firebenders. He attacks them in the tea shop and is dragged away by the Dai Li. Zuko never sees him again.
Fast forward a few months, Zuko joined the gaang. Jet is mentioned in the episode when Katara wants revenge on her mother’s killer (“it’s not the same! Jet attacked the innocent!”) Zuko is like “these guys knew Jet too? What does that mean, he attacked me but I was actually a firebender, not really innocent.”

It was kind of never really a plot hole to begin with.
Of course they need an exhaust port, the exhaust has to go somewhere. And its buried within a trench, thats also highly defended. It required proton torpedos to hit, and that wouldnt have even succeeded without the Force, Red Leader's prior attempt detonated before it hit the Reactor.
The Rebels needed the plans to know it was a feasible strategy to begin with. And even then it was a last ditch Hail Mary. Its a 2m wide hole on a moon sized battlestation.
Its a huge allegory for the Empire, this huge, seemingly unstoppable force of destruction that failed due to one seemingly unimportant oversight. I love Rogue One but its wholy unnecessary to the story.

They even mention in the briefing “that’s a near impossible shot” just for some farm kid to go “I use to make shots like that all the time” as if it was a comparable thing. And in the end Luke needed the force to make that shot. The only thing you can argue as a plot hole was “why didn’t it have a vent cover” or something but still it’s a one in a million shot that in the end was one in a million.

“Why didn’t it have a vent cover” this was a fucking space station capable of producing enough power to blow up an entire planet in seconds, god knows how much thermal energy was being produced and forced through the exhaust port, put a cap on the end and the temperature would probably melt the cap into slag the second the reactor ramped up for a firing sequence

From what i got from Rogue one, it seemed Galen's trap was less the reactor port and more the instability of the main reactor that led to the destruction of the entire station when hit, hence why they had to steal and analyze the plans to find the exhaust port

That's not really what Rogue One covered. Galen set it up so any damage to the main reactor would cause the entire thing to explode, but even he seemed unaware of the exhaust port specifically. Rather he trusted the Rebels would figure out a way to damage it.

Deltarune Chapter 2. The basic plot is the town's computer lab has become a portal to another dimension. The main characters stumble across this when trying to do a school assignment. They have to close the portal if they are to do the assignment.
Except, not really. The game gives you a dialogue option saying that you have a computer at home, so technically there's no need to fix the computer lab. The second main character ignores this, because that would be boring.

Bruce Banner in Avengers: Endgame explaing that the past can't be changed trough time travle because it has already happened (or something), so going back in time and killing Thanos before the events of Infinity War is not an option, so they have to do the time heist thing that takes like 60% of the movie runtime.

Yeah, it would split a new timeline. Theirs would still be fucked, so it would not help them.

That was a neat little "time loop" sort of explanation for it, which I liked. Then they ruined it with Cap saying behind anyway do I don't know why they bothered.

Drac is trying to get rid of johnny at first so the obviously plot hole is "why doesn't he just kill him?". Senss you know. Hes a vampire.

He may be a monster but he's not a monster

I mean in cannon, besides not wanting to set monsters back, Drac also admits human blood is so fatty nowadays so he just uses blood substitutes.

He also drinks deer blood instead of human blood because humans have too many blood born diseases iirc

Why doesn't Dracula just kill the guy, end of story, everyone go home? "I can't, it would set monsters hundred of years back"

The SpongeBob one isn’t a plot hole
It’s a gag poking fun of how SpongeBob casually lets things (very clearly intentionally) like fire and “actual water” exist underwater

Funnily enough, both fire and water can exist underwater. Fire happens when it's supported by something like gas (or, in this case, oil-soaked wood), while "water" happens when there is vastly different salt concentration, which makes it look like thecwater is layered. Abd as a marine biologist, Hillenberg would absolutely know this.
