Because they are dead inside while still doing there job

311

u/The_End-is_Nigh 17h ago edited 3h ago

Fun fact: all trees are dead inside. it's only a thin layer, not far below the bark this is alive.

Edit: Never had 2 awards on a comment before, thanks!

Edit 2: Apparently y'all love a good tree fact? Many trees aren't even closely related. The apple tree is more closely related to a rose bush than an oak tree and a palm tree is more closely related to grass than a banana tree and a banana tree is more like a tight bunch of leaves than a woody trunk.

Thanks again for all the awards, I never expected this to be my most popular comment ever.

Edit 3: Ok, you tree freaks! Forests are basically the reason you're alive. Trees don't actually produce our oxygen and sequester all our carbon, instead it is ocean living phytoplankton and cyanobacteria that are producing most of it. These tiny creatures need a certain bioavailable form of iron to grow and thrive.

I promise this is about trees.

That form of iron is found in the decaying trees of our forests, dissolving in the rain and washing into our streams and rivers before finally feeding the oceans. Studies show that areas that cut down their forests or build hydroelectric dams lose their local fish supply because the iron has either been eliminated or blocked from feeding the bottom of the ocean food chain.

It's cool to see people so interested in trees!

Edit FOUR: Ok Y'all this has gotta be it. I was shocked when I got 2 awards and I'm up to that sweet magic number 12. It's time to tell you how trees actually exploit our physics engine to suck water over 100 meters in the air.

Plants move water up themselves using transpiration, the water evaporating from their leaves, creating suction and that works fine for plants up to around 10 meters but if you try to suck on a straw over 10 meters tall no matter how hard you suck you will not get a mouthful because there will be a vacuum inside the straw, causing the water to boil but the tree needs to get that liquid water all the way to the top. The trick is that the inside of the tree was always full of water so the liquid can be brought below its boiling point and remain a liquid until it reaches the pores in the leaves. This is of course why trees seek out water so aggressively with their roots and yet they use less than 10% of that water for photosynthesis and growth, they are practically spraying it into the atmosphere with some trees blasting well over 200 liters of water into the air each day!

I don't know how many more cool tree facts I know for you guys but holy crap thank you for all the awards!!💜

Edit the fifth: 36 awards?! WHAT?! I mean I had to come back with SOMETHING! Trees spread their roots out and around more than they go straight down unless you live in a very arid region with most trees only delving down 7 or 8 meters but they can do down over 50 meters. They are able to get their roots through so many things by taking advantage of the properties of water again. Similar to how we might drill a hole and fill it with some expanding grout to split a rock a tree will get into the tiniest crack and using hydraulic pressure crack apart rocks then dissolving useful minerals using acids. The roots themselves are also able to detect different things under ground like what direction is down, temerature, moisture as well as the vibrations that water creates. Trees also make relationships with fungi to exchange nutrients that each one is better at producing/has better access to. The largest tree that I know of is a massive colony of quaking aspen that essentially spreads by "cloning itself" sending up new shots from that expanding root system. Scientists are arguing over how old it is with the age ranging wildly from like 6000 to some crazy estimates of 80,000 years. The colony is known as "Pando" and is 100 acres. I was going to share an interesting factoid about how so much of our produce comes from the same clade as roses but another redditor who replied to me already mentioned it and they deserve an award too!

That's IT I am OUT! lol Have the best day you cool people!

37

u/Lord_Tsarkon 8h ago

Another tree fact. Diamonds and gold are more plentiful in the universe than trees. Earth is 4.5 billion years old but trees have only been around for 400 million years. There are some planets in the galaxy that are made of diamonds. Wood is more rare in the galaxy than gold and diamonds

19

u/The_End-is_Nigh 8h ago

Heck yeah, wood is an earth biome exclusive, baby!

No joke, my best friend from childhood did in fact die because her jeep rolled off a hilly road.

And that would have been 20 years ago. Why are they still made like this??

150

u/-peas- 16h ago

To be fair that's not really the fault of the jeep in this OP video. An inexperienced driver speeding far over the speed limit exceeded safe limits and it severely understeered. Most consumer cars wouldn't have been able to take that turn that fast.

42

u/WhiskyDelta14 12h ago

I would argue that most consumer cars have better handling and go better around corners than a jeep. That does not change who is clearly at fault here though.

9

u/Thecardinal74 16h ago

If you go frame by frame there’s no reason to think they died.

At first I thought the pole was splitting the car right t the drivers seat but there’s a pic after airbags deployed that showed driver dashboard consoles still in place and still lit up.

There’s a few frames later that shows two people (not sure of driver or behind driver) and someone else feels like they are midst rollover but can see seatbelts being worn.

I think the camera got ejected via centrifugal force it it was indeed rolling.

I mean theirs a very good chance that passenger filming this from the middle rear seat was not buckled and died

20

I’m pretty sure the front passenger was filming. If you scrub through frames 11s through 13s you can see the phone lined up like it was in his left hand. It actually bounces off the passenger airbag tumbles a few times and shows both the driver and passenger then looks to bounce off the driver airbag and maybe go through the windshield. I didn’t see a third person anywhere in those frames.

Dude, the Jeep renegade shares its platform with the Fiat 500L... It's meant to be driven by hesitant mums and old women with cataracts at 40mph... all the time. Even in 20 zones. It can't handle speed. Acceleration. Or stopping.

As for corners... it's quite frankly allergic to turning.

29

u/no_sight 19h ago

I'm aware it's a bad car. But driving any car that fast on that road would be reckless as well

44

u/Fun_General_6407 18h ago

You're not wrong, but I would contend that this vehicle is the worst choice in its class to turn at speed.

80+mph in a residential area is always stupid, yrs, but driving this particular vehicle at those speeds into a turn compounds the severity of the stupidity on display. I think its quite possible A sports car or even just a sportier saloon/compact could have made that turn with decent tires.

39

u/emanresu_etaerc 18h ago

100% a proper vehicle could very easily have made this turn. Still would've been dumb even in a proper car ofc

→ More replies (6)
→ More replies (3)

24

u/emanresu_etaerc 18h ago

Definitely reckless. But easily three times as reckless in a vehicle that is literally incapable of the maneuver. It's one thing when a dumb ass mobs their sports car that can actually handle turning fast, and several times stupider driving just as fast in a literal fucking brick. This move requires a full on brain dead human.

10

u/sorestgore 18h ago

Reckless but absolutely not a problem for even a basic sedan. That and a better driver WOULD have been able to make this in the Jeep

→ More replies (5)

15

u/SonOfMcGee 18h ago

Yeah I feel like this Jeep was doomed no matter what. It ended up skidding and hitting the pole. But in a scenario where the tires gripped and it “makes” the turn, it’s flipping on its side fo sho.

12

u/green_jp 18h ago

has the turn angle of a rhino inside a bathroom stall. first time I ever "crashed" was on my dad's renegade taking a turn inside the parking lot of a mall. there was plenty leeway, enough for a pickup truck. but the fucker simply doesn't have an angle. scraped the shit out of the wall.

→ More replies (1)
→ More replies (10)

27

u/jet1392 19h ago

You're absolutely right, you don't know. As someone who drives for sport on closed courses, the choice of car was absolutely a factor in whether or not it could handle the corner at that speed. Im not saying that the car should ever have been driven like that on a public road in any instance, but if we're looking at this purely from a physics standpoint, the vehicle choice and its performance limits were absolutely one of the holes in the swiss cheese.

→ More replies (9)

13

u/Fun-Machine7907 18h ago

Well the only jeep I've been in got speed wobbles if you hit a bump above 65mph. I think the vehicle might have something to do with it.

Learning what understeer is the hard way.

17

u/Buki1 17h ago

Was that understeer, or did they just lose traction and skid?

119

u/Rhoms17 17h ago

Yes, that is understeer. The wheels turned but the speed combined with turning overwhelmed the available traction. The wheels turn but the car plows on while sliding /pushing the front tires.

18

u/Ree_For_Thee 17h ago edited 2h ago

So it's just a descriptive word for 'lose traction and skid'.

E: I'm calling attention to how the person I replied to seemed to be high and mighty by just knowing the technical term for it.

It's like if "slipped and fell on ice" had a technical term like "icepergate", that nobody remembers, nor want to.

77

u/DieselSmack 17h ago

There are lots of way to lose traction and skid. Understeering was the method specifically used in the video

→ More replies (33)

22

u/SoWhatComesNext 14h ago

Yes, but that's like the difference between "they fell" and "they slipped on ice"

Same thing in the end, but one gives you much better understanding of the situation.

Someone says "they understeered into a pole", you get a much more complete picture than "lost traction and skid into a pole"

→ More replies (4)

15

u/ADHDebackle 16h ago

Understeer is specifically when the front tires lose traction. Oversteer is when the rear wheels lose traction. Understeer is caused by turning too hard for your speed and oversteer is caused by putting too much power into the rear wheels during a turn (For RWD vehicles).

So yeah, understeer and oversteer are both different ways you can 'lose traction and skid'

If this had been oversteer they might have hit the (same) pole going sideways or backwards rather than head on.

5

u/Boil-Degs 15h ago

No. "Lose traction and skid" is an extremely broad term and "understeer" is a more specific term describing a specific type of traction loss. When you "skid" you could be spinning out, doing a burnout, oversteering, or sliding in any direction. Understeering is when your front tyres lose traction but your rear tyres maintain traction, sending you in the direction your rear tyres are facing, which is forward.

While I don't necessarily want them to actually die I do want them to never be able to do it again, whether that's due to societal scorn, disability or death... Whatever the lowest they actually listen to, cause clearly common sense or decency wasn't enough.

I would rather they take themselves out in a one car crash than take out a family.

13

u/oxabz 18h ago

Hexes don't exist. Wishing death on someone is just a superlativ expression of detestation.

Especially since theses people are anonymous and not likely to be affected by stochastic violence.

11

u/Cowbuoy808 19h ago

He’s the moron that drove and he’s the moron that put the video out

11

u/Real_FishyXY 19h ago

No one wishes death on them, we wish consequences for stupidity. If death be that consequence then unfortunately it's on them. Videos like this need to exist so that maybe one more person decides to follow road laws 😬

8

u/voidsherpa 18h ago

After seeing that video I do not want them to exist in our society anymore.

Nah, it's not bad enough for them, because morons like them are why my parents both died in a crash. People like those morons need to get life in prison or death penality if they killed someone in a crash.

NOPE. FUCK these pricks! The faster they killed themself the better so that they can't hurt other people.

5

u/VerilyShelly 19h ago

I don't wish death on them but I'm also glad they didn't get away with feeling this behavior is okay. I hope they aren't seriously injured and I hope they never have another car ever again.

7

u/SnowSandSki 18h ago

The faster they die doing this and NOT hurting others the better. Consequences are the only behavior modifier with people this stupid.

Does anyone know more about this video? Dont wanna sound hatefull but I wouldnt be surprised if someone died during that crash.

29

u/EducatedCynic 19h ago

And still chose to post the video.

15

u/CyBroOfficial 15h ago

It’s happened. Saw a video where the driver’s sister died in a crash, like, had her brain outside of her skull, and she still had the nerve to put it online.

16

u/pomacanthus_asfur 14h ago

Once footage of an event like this exists, multiple avenues can lead to its online release.

The recipient may have forwarded it to a friend who published it, or a responding officer with access to the video could have shared it with acquaintances, resulting in its upload. So many possibilities.

I thought so too. That seemed fast and they went right into that pole. I expected them to just fold that car around it.

23

u/HODLmeCLOSRtonydanza 19h ago

That pole probably just sheared right off at the bolts. The bigger problem for the passengers was likely when they started to roll the vehicle at speed.

Nobody died. This happened in Loma Verde, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Local reporting says there were two 20-year-old occupants, both were treated by paramedics and taken to Hospital Erill for evaluation. No fatalities were reported. That Jeep held up better than I thought. The boxy type styling kept the cabin intact. The windshield isn't even smashed.

142 kmh (still frame looked like 142), just over 80 mph in what looks like a residential area. Lucky they didn't sail into someone's house and kill someone.

Shitty auto tune music. Truly the soundtrack of poor choices.

u/SnooCakes6195 19h ago

Wicked. That pole comes out of no where..

u/Hovie1 19h ago

Well when you don't know how to drive basically everything comes out of nowhere

People driving like this genuinely have absolutely zero understanding of the immense forces at play when driving a vehicle. Let alone these big turd on wheels suvs that handle like a drunk elephant with the best of tires at high speeds let alone the bald slicks these mouth breathes typically have on their 1200 a month oversized shit boxs.

I have a jeep renegade, love it. I would never think about driving a toaster like this, what was he thinking? You can’t make a turn like that at those speeds and just be like “I’ll be fine”. Me and the red renegade never go over 70 MPH. What an idiot.

u/SuitableAnimalInAHat 18h ago

I have a serious question about this kind of video. Who shares this footage with the internet? Like, I wouldn't do something this embarrassingly stupid, but if I do, you can bet your ass I'm not uploading footage of it!

Is this a "Florida Man" phenomenon where some states require you to make your dashcam public? Or do some people just not realize that you have the option to not post everything?
