If you didn't know, veritasium sold to private equity a few years ago. The content has seemed mostly fine since then but I feel like things have ramped up and taken a turn.

The last video they just released was for them to launch a new channel that focused more on social issues and they gave an example of part of a video they were working on in which somebody called the subject of the video "the Elon Musk of his time".

I immediately unsubscribed and you should too. Derek seems to be gone for good.

I find the way in which YouTube deliberately degrades the experience of users who choose to use an ad blocker to be deeply unfair and unacceptable. We come to YouTube for a content creator’s content, not to see adverts that serve absolutely no purpose for the user!

You are perfectly free to choose to fund your service through advertising. However, slowing down, degrading, or artificially making the use of YouTube a chore simply because a user refuses to view certain adverts is a particularly aggressive way of treating your own audience.

A user is not merely a source of advertising revenue. They are a person who devotes their time to your platform and who should be able to decide under what conditions they wish to browse the internet.

If your business model relies on advertising, explain this clearly and offer your solutions, but do not seek to deliberately turn the experience into an obstacle course to force users to conform to your model.

Above all, this policy gives the impression that YouTube views its users as adversaries rather than as its audience.

I therefore ask you to cease these practices of deliberately degrading the user experience and to show greater respect for your audience’s choices.

First thing I'm paying attention to nowadays when I click on a video (the ones without creators showing their faces like some short documentaries) is if the narrator's voice is real and whether the script sounds like something chatgpt would write and I'm so sick of it already 🙄 I don't want to watch that stuff and its trash content imo, also just lazy and untrustworthy. And as if that wasn't enough 90% of comments on the site are/look like bots. The internet is just going to shit in general. I wish there were some guidelines around this or creators had to state that they used AI but that's never gonna happen

I got this new UI today on desktop and it looks absolutely terrible. And I can't find the theater mode anywhere anymore either. Don't tell me YouTube removed this feature and I'm stuck with this unless I go full screen.

So I was watching this video in 1080p while I was doing that the video black screened and stopped playing completely and the video quality switched to 360p with no way of changing it

I then went out of YouTube and removed it from my recent apps after I relaunched the app and after I was watching the same video for 5 seconds it did it again

Is there any way of fixing this?

My home feed has been broken for quite some time with it either giving me a blank screen with no videos or showing me a single video of something i’ve already watched .

There are rare occasions where i do get a list of videos but they’re so random it makes no sense, like i can get a video about politics then the one next to it was singing nuns which next to that was a vocal channel on how to say a “certain” word. It made no sense whatsoever.

Yes i disabled my extensions as that would be the very first thing to do (on pc not using the app) but even that didn’t change anything which really surprised me as i expected to see videos every time after i did that, but no, no changes just another blank page of nothing.

Im not sure if this is some kind of experimental stuff or whatever but this is by FAR THE WORST layout change i have EVER seen in any App/Game EVER. Revert this right now. It basically forces me to view comments on opening a video and i have to scroll down to actually see other videos??? Do you want us to watch less videos??? What is this change?

In my honest opinion, there's nothing special about "[thing] be like" videos, it's the same old wojakslop every time and feels like it's just horoscopes for the terminally online "OMG THIS IS SO ME" type of stuff (they give me the same aura as "MBTI" (you know, that 16 personalities thing), aka astrology for the nerds).

And, in before someone says "ackshuyally just press not interested", I use incognito/private mode to not mess up my algorithm.
