New Rule Posted - Fuck Cancer

Rule #9 has been posted as a further explanation regarding our automod, specifically around the phrase "fuck cancer". We review each of those as they come through and approve them as quickly as we can. It can be frustrating so we wanted to add some transparency to how things work to keep this place supportive. Cancer is horrible to many people, their friends, and families; and we are happy that the community at r/bald can provide some minor relief to those managing the awful disease. Fuck cancer.

My hair’s been thin since I was 15. I’ve tried a bunch of different lengths, but honestly I got sick of seeing my scalp in photos no matter what I did. In a regular mirror everything looks fine, but the second there’s daylight and a camera, the problem shows. I’m really on the fence. My main worry is whether a shaved look would actually suit my head shape. I’ve shared some examples different lighting, time and lengths.

It's been a bit emotional, but the time had come. We kept what we could and I'll be sending it to a local org that makes wigs for cancer patients.

Sidenote, if anyone has any recommendations for a good dome shaver, It would be really appreciated. I'm already getting tired of my old 3 blade razor.😅

Thank you everyone for giving me the courage to go through with it!

I had long luscious thick hair in my early 20s. Started to lose a lot of it as I got older... I'm almost 30 and people say I look much more mature. It's nice, less maintenance. I made a friend who has alopecia, she calls me her chrome buddy

I finally took the plunge after years of being dissatisfied with my hair.

Lurking around on this sub pushed me over the edge - literally none of you guys looks worse after shaving! I think i like it. Just not sure if the glasses still fit my face or if i should go get contact lenses.

Hi everyone. I posted here a few weeks ago, and took the advice of everyone here - turns out Freebird had a half-off sale going on for their razor bundle, like a glowing neon sign telling me to go for it.

So yeah. I posted here, with the knowledge deep in my brain that of course it was time to just do it. But something was stopping me; a strange anxiety and attachment to keeping what I had left.

I've given this quite a lot of thought.

As the decline of my hair started while I was still a teenager, I formed an obsession / compulsion to hide it, to live like nothing was wrong or changing. Determined to pretend like everything was "normal". This is most definitely the main cause of the anxiety and fear I feel now; those habits formed to protect my image and ego have dug deep. And living with severe ADHD made that habit very hard to break, with how ingrained it was in my brain and everyday thoughts.

But, of course, that started during my last couple years in high school, and got much worse the following years in college and through my first few jobs. I'm 27 now. The situation only got worse with time. And now it's time for me to get over that weak façade I put up a decade ago and accept that bald IS "normal", and it's NOT something that people will actually care about, even with my psoriasis and flaky skin (which is still present, but mostly on the back of my head and also not as bad as I expected). If I can't get that under control (which will be easier without hair) then I can simply continue to wear hats.

Today is the first day I've gone to work without a hat on in my entire life. It feels freeing. And basically nobody has even batted an eye or mentioned anythng to me about my head.

Thanks for all the support!

And thank you even to the people who were rude in the comments, it was a nice contrast at least lol.

And of course a couple Chickpea pics at the end in her favorite bed.

Been thinking about it seriously for like 2 months, especially after my brother died at 20 on July 24th. Been denying it a good one or two years.

Wish he was here to make fun of me for being bald, but I’m glad I turned to a pretty positive community to uplift me. (Hopefully)

I’ll clean up the beard. Today was my first day being a bald king. All the love fellas and gals ❤️

Hi, I’m Marco. I’m 30 years old and I’m from Italy. I apologise for the mess – the photo was taken this morning. I’ve decided to embrace my bald head and now I’m determined to lose weight to improve my overall appearance. I think you’re a great, positive community. Have a lovely day.
