Thats why I'm very cautious of the whole "dont criticize these red voters who are now jumping ship and regretting their vote. We need to welcome them in because if we go too hard on them, they'll go right back to the right and dig in deeper."

I believe there are a few who are genuinely regretting their vote and have learned along the way, but that's a very small number.

Not to mention, do we have proof that will work?

I believe there are way more who are simply just trying to save face and now have gone back to hiding who they really are and will absolutely go back to voting red if things start getting better.

I don't think it's genetic, I think it is environmental. Something like 90% of trump supporters come from relatively rigid religious backgrounds. Evangelicals, Mormons, Orthodox Jews, and tradcaths. Religious structures that believe that the word of God is not only unquestionable, but can only be relayed by his appointed Messengers. Note that the split in episcopalians and unitarians, doctrines that are much more community oriented, tend to be much more liberal in general. Some of that is obviously down to their interpretation of scripture, but I also think it's how people are raised to unquestionately follow leaders

I disagree. The media construct of black and white dates for the start and finish of a generation are definitely arbitrary. But my (boomers, born in early 50’s) parents were not raised In The same society that I was raised in, in the early 90’s. That being said, from the 30’s-80’s the levels of lead were at all time highs. That means an entire generation was exposed to toxins that are simply not as prevalent in the environment today.

Not necessarily. Plenty of down to earth hippies in that era too. But studies have found a direct correlation between hateful violent behavior and the environmental levels of lead pollution prevalent during the majority of that generation’s lives. It wasn’t until the ‘96 that the US outright banned leaded fuel.

Long term lead poisoning affects the brain. Commonly associated with increased irritability, as well as cognitive impairment.

Couple that with the fact many of that generation deny mental health issues and the need for care, and we have ourselves a whole lot of angry old folks! They are the ones running this country into the ground btw
