People are crazy now.

Several years ago I was headed home at night and a pickup truck was just riding my ass on the road. I was going 5-10 over cuz that's my normal speed, and he was just up on my bumper. Got to a passing zone, I slowed down to the speed limit and he just hit the high beams instead. I started taking some random turns to not go home cuz I didn't want him following me to my house, and he just kept following me.

Finally I pulled over, and he stopped behind me and yelled "you trying to get shot?!" Super weird.

But his tune changed when I pulled my own gun and told him to show me his fucking hands after he threatened to shoot me. He started apologizing, told me he didn't even have a gun and he was sorry. Did a pretty good three point turn and left me alone after that.

Its crazy how fast some people back down when they get some push back. Like they never considered other people might be willing to fight.

They're used to people backing down over words or looming threats.

People feel like they have a lot less to lose now. What they don’t realize is, that mentality goes both ways.

If you’re driving in most of America, it is safest to assume every driver has a gun.

It feels like people are crazy now, but looking back on history, we're high society compared to centuries past. Some places you could legally request duels to the death. Other places, you just had to pay compensation to the wife for murdering her husband. If you found your wife fucking another guy, totally within your rights to murder them and no one would arrest you.

It’s always smart to keep some form of protection especially in situations like this.

You did the right thing. Are warning shots allowed? I think a warning shot to his radiator would have been good, I mean. you really have to be sure, because his car is bigger, and he could have been emboldened to continue once he got to the safety of his truck.

If he shot the truck, the other guy would have pretty good reason to run him over.

I think what he said he did was appropriate.

Bro op pulling his gun without the intention of using it right away was bad enough. Tell me you aren’t from America without telling me you aren’t from America

I'm saying OP should have fired into the truck's radiator to disable it.

Maybe I should finish the thought, disable the truck, drive away, call police.

Which is fucking insane dude. Do you really think Americans are out here shooting guns like that? If he shot the guys radiator he would be calling the cops and getting himself arrested for recklessly using a firearm

OP tried to mitigate, slowed down to allow a pass, made unnecessary turns to avoid, but was followed, stopped his vehicle and was approached (I believe now, it is stand your ground). I asked if warning shots are allowed, so you are saying no. That's okay. There seems to be a glut of cases where firearms were used like Trayvon Martin and Kyle Rittenhouse, The two I mentioned, were not innocents. Tangent had legitimate fear for his life, and tried to de-escalate, and it worked out.

I could write a long post about firearms law but I’ll leave you with two important rules. Don’t draw unless you intend to fire or the other person has drawn.

Second, if you have to shoot then shoot to kill. Dead men tell no tales.

Bonus: don’t say shit to the police until your lawyer is there.

You can’t fire warning shots in America.

that’s a good way to get yourself shot. the right thing to do is drive to the nearest police station

Tactically I was in a pretty good condition; and I'm also the police so felt pretty good about my odds

When the population has grown by 100m people in 30 years there is guaranteed to be more and more and more crazy shit happening.

Bigger gaps between wealth. Worse mental health. Worse general living conditions. Everything goes to shit once your civilization passes that “golden” period where 80%+ of the population is comfortable.

It’s surprising how quick a bully will back down when you face them on equal footing.

What I don’t get is, when you slowed down and he had the opportunity to pass, why didn’t he?

Right? Because the anger came from “I want to go fast and I can’t!” When he got the chance to you’d think he would reacted with “now I can pass,” and do so.

If you’re angry because you want to get where you’re going faster, why don’t you do that when given the chance?

It’s like when people brake check others… you’re mad because someone is almost hitting you and your reaction is to… try and make them hit you?

Eh depends how fast he slowed down. Guy was riding him, could have thought it was a brake check.

I would have put on my hazards and coasted to the speed limit if this was one of those single-lane back roads

Right?? I was like oh cool, he'll just go around, and then he was like.. high beams.

I guess at that point he'd just decided to be an asshole as a full-time job.

Yeah I had a truck riding my bumper with his high beams on for like 2 miles recently so the moment he passed me and got on the highway I immediately threw mine on and rode right behind him the entire way home even as he swerved lanes to get away from me.

Probably stupid on my part but I was cranky after work and annoyed at his bullshit.

Part of me wishes you had put that shit right up to his head and said “click”. The crazy part, I guess.
