who could have thought when nobody expecting an openword game on mobile, they released Genshin
who could have thought when they are swimming in money with Genshin, when everyone else is racing like crazy to get on the openworld trend, they released a basic turn based game
while there are massive flaws in their game, i think their success is justified, because they always be the first to surprise the players with something that isnt even new
People talk about it being low effort, but among its peer, its one of the highest quality.
Like what, how many turn based jrpg have higher production quality than hsr.
The entire game is story driven which is basically FOC. The game is basically funded by whales that loves the story and character and wants to make the characters they like strong, not the other way around.
For people that are really into the strategic aspect, they try to make teams punch harder than their weightlevel.
Being able or not to clear end game is fking irrelevant if you use the fking auto button.
Chess gives air; MoC PF and AA is only demanding on the final 3 team stage, because its demanding 3 teams, in which most of the time is clearable unless your teams are giga scuffed.
Even If you cant, whats the fking difference in pulls given? like basically ONE?
Trails JRPG series I guess. There's so many of them that if you start by Sky remake now and do the older games first, you'd be at the end of 2027 by the time you reach Cold Steel 4 lmao.
I love Trails but I wouldnt say that it had better production quality than HSR. Imo in terms of pure JRPGs maybe Atlus may only rival HSR in terms of production quality recently.
Back to sprite-based 2d games like FGO lmao. It is what it is with JRPGs I suppose. Thats why I don’t play them to begin with. People who do should already know what they are in for. Something something “that’s hell you are walking into”
Fire Emblem, X-Com, Baldurs gate, really any CRPG- but your mobile options are cooked. I stopped playing HSR even though I primarily played on PC to play better one time payment games.
Most I could say is like, Slay The Spire on mobile and I highly doubt that scratches the HSR itch
Yeah, when I was looking to drop HSR I tried looking for similar 3D turn-based games and the only one I found was ReMemento: White Shadow, but it was KR locked at the time, then they started to go bankrupt, went global in a hurry with machine translation, after like 3 months they closed the servers saying they would remake the game and launch again in 6 months or so. It's been almost a year now. It's a shame cuz I liked their style of gacha way more than HSR, it's one of those 'too generous' gacha that never makes money, I guess. They were selling a bunch of cool skins though.
HSR is low effort compared to Hoyo's other two big games because they dont have to try. They're still leagues above every other turn based gacha on the market in terms of production value. If you have no real competitor to be afraid of, you do the minimum needed to still look great in comparison and rake in the money from people who really like turn based combat in their gacha.
Plus, a lot of the grievances people have with HSR right now dont affect casuals who dont do endgame much or dont care much about optimal teams and best investments on their accounts, which are a large chunk of the playerbase.
Hoyo is just very good at doing exactly what they need to in order to look great on the surface and extract maximum cash, and nothing more.
You can call them lazy at times, but minimal effort is a massive stretch. What minimal effort actually looks like is FGO. Genuinely insane how much the game makes despite how obviously little they invest into the game itself, they probably spent more on hiring VAs for the characters than actually developing the game.
It's so minimal that after 3 years they keep using Aetherium Wars and Ghost Hunting Squad as a reference because there are nothing to be referred any more
There's no competition on the market from turn-based gacha games - that's what gives HSR the right to develop at whatever pace they want.
Saying "minimum effort", who are we comparing it to? you won't find a higher-quality and larger-scale gacha game in this genre right now.
By quality I naturally mean the entire game as a whole, not individual elements that people like to focus on, comparing them ... not with turn-based games. 😄
What's low effort about it? The story quest production quality has only gone up and the planets have gotten much better 4.x onwards. I also don't like the less content and loss of Character Quests, but let's not act like it's less effort, that's nonsense.
Like their other competitor desperately release so much fan service to survive while they just release a character with 99% animation of soulglad, and still in top revenue lmao

HSR has to be the best game from the company's point of view. Minimal effort, maximal revenue & profits.
