Would be wonderful

I feel like the slow driver should have suffered more for what they did

Every time the driver pushed the button I thought it was gonna be the explosion button. Even the rockets at the end, ended up being not explosions.

I kept waiting for the punchline and it never came

To get to the other side

There's a speed trap at the end so presumably the slow driver also gets fined as punishment

I think the humor is people getting bent out of shape over this sort of thing to the point of spending time posting and making memes about it. Like, yeah, I'd like to be going faster. But the 3 minutes I'm going 25% slower is costing me basically nothing at highway speeds, once I take 2 seconds to get perspective. I can't imagine letting this shit bother me for longer than that, I got enough real stuff to stress out about.

I envy your Zen. Since all I know about the person slowing me and others down is that they are inconsiderate, with nothing to humanize them, I feel actual hatred of them.

I hate to break it to you man, but if you're out there in the world feeling hatred toward everyone who mildly inconveniences you, it's pretty likely you're not out there being a paragon of kindness, either.

Reasonable guess, but the thing is I'm actually pathologically concerned about inconveniencing people, so i think that's partially why I struggle so much to empathize with people like that.

There's a lot of room between "not empathizing" and actively hating someone for something trivial.

It has been shown when people travel under the speed limit in the passing lane, it increases the likelihood of an accident.

There's always speeders. Imagine you're stuck going 10 under, last in line in the left (passing) lane. Woods on either side of the highway. You start going around a curve. Then there's someone doing 15 over in the left lane. They don't see you in time...

I also deal with a lot of snow where I live. There's been several times I've nearly been sandwiched because someone used the left lane to match the speed of someone in the right. Traffic backs up, I'm last in line doing 30 in a 65 zone. Then, emerging from the haze of the snowstorm comes a massive lifted truck doing 65. I can't move anywhere, except to give them a little more space on the shoulder. Yes, the speeder is at fault, but this whole situation could have been avoided if someone didn't decide to block the left lane because they don't have the tread on their tires to actually pass the guy in the right lane. If you're not passing, don't hog the passing lane. It's simple, and it's safer for everyone.

You can't change how people act. You can only change how you react to them. Tailgaters suck, reckless drivers suck, slow drivers in passing lanes suck. Always been the case. But I see a lot more of the first two, and dollars to donuts it's usually them complaining about the third. At least to the point where they get all the way home still thinking about it enough to rant about it on reddit.

If I'm last in line in the passing lane going 30 and not passing anyone, but in the passing lane because I want to pass someone, and I'm in dangerous conditions and worried about some asshole rear-ending me...I'll probably just hop in another lane that's going the same speed anyway and wait for things to clear up.

Doesn't matter which lane in those conditions I mentioned. I've witnessed accidents happen in either lane because of the speeders. My point being that someone is creating a backup that could be avoided if they didn't drive recklessly. I always leave plenty of space in front of me in those conditions, but whether it's left or right lane, if I'm on the end I'm constantly watching my rear view mirror.

The main reason i took the time to even type this out is for the people who do block the passing lane in these conditions. I've heard some people do it to prevent people from going too fast in bad conditions. In doing so, they create an even more dangerous situation that puts the safe drivers at risk.

The reckless drivers can't see in time and have nowhere to go if there's not a shoulder. When they start sliding, it doesn't matter what lane you're in. They could slide to the right lane or left. They could go sideways and hit both cars. In those situations, it's both the reckless driver and the blocking car that culminate to create a dangerous situation.

Just because people are vocal about how annoyed they are at someone not speeding fast enough in the left lane, it doesn't mean the Sunday drivers hogging the left lane aren't creating a dangerous situation.

Well, if you're in the right lane, you're probably a little farther back from where an accident would take place.

Regardless, I doubt people who do it consciously are going to be swayed by someone else's anecdotes, and the bulk of the time it's probably people just spacing out, anyway. Just something we live with and plan for as drivers

We used to always joke/fantasize about having 50 caliber machine guns mounted to our car. Yes I know kinda morbid, but it was still fun to fantize about exacting revenge on stupid drivers. Just a fantasy about how to deal with asshole drivers.

Because my country drives on the left, I started assuming that the car had caused the truck to overtake and then sped up to avoid being overtaken. At which point, I think extermination by hellfire would be appropriate.

Yes please, and if they can't drive past a truck that is going 90 in 110, then you should get a new course in driving*, and remember, left lane is a passing lane, not just a normal lane like the other...

u/Simple_Channel5624 5h ago

I always just imagine I can use the force, lift the car and move it with a flick to the far right lane. Far left is for passing only don't cruise in this lane

I do think a lot about the scene in Chronicle, where they've got an asshole tailgating them and one of the kids uses his telekinesis to shove his truck off the road. It's a dark moment, and a huge overreaction... but I do think about it sometimes.

Just sucks when your in an area where everyone is driving under the speed limit so you just wanna drive the speed limit in the passing lane, and take it all the way to where you need to go. Then there's other times where your going maz speed in the passing lane and someone is still tailgating you! Like, why do you need to go that fast??

I have a way better idea: go to therapy

Just move into the right lane and take your time over there, bud. Some folks have places to be and people depending on them to be there.

Peep the subreddit. They were trying really hard to be humorous 🙃

The slow driver should have a drone as well which battles the other drone.
