Imagine living under the assumption that someone is always watching or listening with a complete erosion of private trust. These people have learned never to think out loud, even at home.

What you don't understand is that these people are probably genuinely happy. You grow up learning that this guy is Pele crossed w/ Michael Jackson and now he's in the same room as you. Plus you don't get this close to El Presidente unless you are one of the privledged so your life may not be as good as it could be in other countries, but its probably not terrible either.
