He's got the whole moon........in his hands, He's got the whole moon........... in his hands.

How does one fail for 3 years though? Given the full moon appears quite regularly and the statue never moves

The path of the Moon through the sky is slightly different every day, just like with the Sun.

You could of course just figure out when the shot will be set up and wait, rather than "trying and failing," but maybe that's what actually happened and the title is bad.

He may well have done and then it was cloudy at that time etc.

The moon and earth are constantly moving, brasil also has the amazon rainforest, hence clouds are quite common. You get ~12 full moons a year, but remember that it needs to be in the right position at the right time. If the moon is in the right position but its 2pm then what's the point. The phases of the moon and position are completely independent of our day night cycle. The moon is still there during the day

I can't believe you had to explain this...

Beyond this. The photographer most certainly did not sit there for 1000 consecutive days for this photo. They checked weather forecasts, lunar cycles and also what area of the sky the moon would be in. In reality we're talking about maybe being out there 15-20 times to see if everything lined up

No! We can't ruin the illusion! Aha

You need the moon on the correct angle and position.

He's just not that great at photography

Waited 3 yrs for it to capture that pic, why didn't he just move himself into position. I guess that wouldn't be as interesting if he had a brain & did that

Hes looking for a specific angle. Idt he wants it from the side or the back so in reality there is only a small margin of where the picture can be taken. In reality they only have less than 30degrees of leeway if photographer doesnt want it strait on. Up or down can maybe vary a little depending on the angle of the moon. This is like saying why wait for a solar eclipse, why not just move to where the sun and moon are aligned?

It's not. But the title is clickbaity.

I don't mean to be disrespectful to this beautiful and great photo, which requires a lot of planning and precision. But this image can be achieved every year, and several times, from the beaches in front (Niteroi, Icarai, etc.). For example, this May 23rd, you can photograph it during golden hour from Icaraí beach at 6:01 a.m. This will also be repeated on June 21st and May 22nd, according to my calculations on Photpills (an app for photographers). The only thing we can't control is wheather. There's too much clickbait on this "news reports"

Photography nerd here. Definitely cool photo, but like you mentioned this kind of arrangement can be repeated several times. The title is clickbaity

To elaborate some more: Because Christ statue is on a cliff, and unobstructed, there are several vantage points where you could align the field of view to have the statue, and the moon in a line. Then choose the object distance and shadow length to roughly calculate how far to position to look like Christ is holding the stellar body. Photopills and Ephemeris make these very nice and easy. Weather is the tricky part and requires few tries to get right.

But this is not something that seems impossible and can be repeatably done.

The comments on these kinds of photos are always so dumb... Why moon so big? Why 3 years? Why not use ai? Grow a brain, people.

Damn strong mountain

I just want to say, if it took three years, maybe it’s because Jesus and the moon have nothing to do with each other.

•

u/Regular_Promise3605 8h ago

I don't actually think he's holding it.

•

u/sanbaeva 8h ago

And we thought his carrying the burden of our sins was heavy . . .

Why did a brazillian photographer shoot jesus christ?

•

u/SixToesLeftFoot 7h ago

Because he never wore shoes.

On a side note, Jesus once walked into a tavern. Tossed three nails on the counter and said “can you put me up for the night?”

•

u/dangderr 8h ago

I don’t think he’s actually holding the moon. It should be floating behind him.

3 years of failed attempts should make one wonder…

•

u/MetalHead678 8h ago

While the city below is one of the most violent in the world and rife with cartel violence and constant death. Thanks jesus

•

u/Shoddy_Fish31 8h ago

He could just use AI…

•

u/DryDiscipline2001 5h ago

Holy fuck WHY IS EVERY BASIC ASS REDDIT PHOTO POST LIKE “AFTER 1,000 YEARS OF FAILING THIS PHOTOGRAPHER FINALLY GOT SHOT OF LIFE TIME!!1”

•

u/btan1975 8h ago

three years and now could be done by AI in 30 seconds

•

u/DivDude77 8h ago

So just like majority of the things that "laptop class" does these days

•

u/discomuffin 8h ago

Could be done in a much shorter time than 3 years without ai too. They should call it planning.
