Better than spending money on crack

u/John_Oakman 7h ago
Spending the money on a bunker filled with crack, and then when the apocalypse comes use said crack to entice the local crackheads to become your personal warband.
25
u/Fantastic_Estate_303 7h ago
I thought that was gonna end with personal food supply
10
u/John_Oakman 7h ago
I prefer food that is less spicy.
3
u/Fantastic_Estate_303 5h ago
TIL that methhead flesh is spicy. Wonder if i should do something on r/stupidfood
5
u/BrohemothHisDudeness 7h ago
So basically mad Max but instead of water you control the crack. This is brilliant but how are you going to handle the impending conflict with the guy that did a meth lab in his bunker?

u/BigOlPieHole 7h ago
Get the crackheads to loot supplys and use them as a meat shield to protect the bunker from warheads.
1
u/IAmMagumin 3h ago
I mean, drugs of any kind in an apocalypse could give you a shit ton of leverage for trade, but also put a big target on your back. Doesn't even need to be existing crackheads, I'd bet there would be plenty of people who would be more open to drugs if that came to pass. Horrific morally and ethically, of course.
7
u/Kiznish 7h ago
Disagree. I have never taken hard drugs, but if the world is truly ending I imagine it’d go a lot smoother if you’re permanently high in your final days. What better time to try it.
Stock up folks.

People survived being cavemen, living in the desert, living in the artic, living in the sea, living in just about any condition that can support life. At this point there's probably not a lot that actually can get rid of us as a species baring some sort of airborn mega virus or something that blows up the planet. Some motherfucker is going to crawl out of the rubble and start putting shit back together again same as we always do.
2
u/RebelGirl1323 7h ago
Yeah but you’re probably better off assuming you’re screwed if it’s an over 60%er.
5
u/Maleficent-War-8429 7h ago
I mean I personally am probably fucked since I'm a soft little man baby who needs his Internet, but I just dont enjoy the defeatist attitude.
3
u/Im_The_Assman_Jerry 6h ago
That's the funny thing. I hear people talking about how you might as well go out early in the apocalypse. My feeling is dying after the apocalypse will be easy. It'll be easier than before the apocalypse. That's the point. You might as well stick it out and see how it goes, because you can still opt out at basically any point. By the time you're contemplating rage quitting, the stakes are literally zero. You're playing to have fun and see where the story goes at that point.
2
u/RebelGirl1323 7h ago
That’s understandable. For me it’s more that I see a lot of people who think they’ll be fine and they’re usually the people who shouldn’t even bother. Like billionaires. They’ll self exit without a vacation in a week.

Nah. Air is becoming toxic to humans due to co2. But you keep believing whatever.

So what, let them build some cool shit if they want to. What's the point of life of you can't do what you enjoy?

Oh, a relevant post!
The best case scenario IS that it's never used and is just a fun extension of a hobby, man cave, whatever. Maybe nothing happens and it's a fun hangout to go watch a disaster movie in, or is just primarily storage.
It's worth noting that any sane "prepper" doesn't want to have to actually use their more extreme levels of preps, because that means things have gotten bad. Is it cool and fun to use preps? Sure! But that's different than really needing to use a Geiger counter in an emergency. (Yes, disaster prep IS my thing- user name applicable. Career, hobby, pile of certifications, etc. Happy to answer questions.)
But in a worse-case scenario? Well, then it actually is used, and yay, we're alive. Personally, I'd rather be around to help myself, family, and others rebuild and maintain a level of comfort through the slog ahead.
"It'll never happen" is a saying that has failed time and time again.

my mother in law spent hundreds, possibly thousands of dollars over 10 or so years restocking an emergency pantry that all ended up expired and in the trash
2
u/Ree_For_Thee 4h ago
You never ate any of it?

u/polski8bit 3h ago
People that buy things for "emergencies", often don't allow anyone to use them unless there's an "emergency".
My brother being one of them. He kept an eight pack of water in our room and whenever I'd ask if I could take one, he said nope, because that's for "emergencies".
Then suddenly this year it was expiring and he asked me if I'd want some, because he doesn't want to throw it out. Happened with a few canned foods and peanut butter as well.
The dumb thing is that he restocked the water the same way, so in the next year or two the same thing is going to happen.
1
u/Ree_For_Thee 3h ago
Well that's the thing. You can prep with food and it won't cost you a dime... if you actually eat it before it expires. Even with the cost of investing the money into the food, you're usually just getting 'boring' stuff that's cheap in comparison to your regular living anyway.
2
u/Nonstopshooter21 1h ago
I mean it's easy to have an emergency pantry especially if you're storing everyday items that you use. do what restaurants do, first in first out. Whenever you buy new stuff you replace the things in the emergency pantry and just rotate the food. Pretty basic level stuff especially if you can and dehydrate foods from your garden

u/Mediocre_Scott Big ol' bacon buttsack 1h ago
Takes organization that many people don’t want to be bothered with. Better to have to spend the time organizing than be out thousands of dollars if you asked me
8
u/Only-Location2379 7h ago
I mean some people do, most of us are just storing a few extra cans of food away every shopping trip, getting tools and equipment to handle power outages etc.
7
u/ethancd1 5h ago
Isn't that the point of doomsday preparation? You hope it never comes but at least you're prepared if and when it does. Better to be prepared than not
5
u/IanAlvord 7h ago
Oh, I'm sure someone will use it for something at some point. Just probably not with good intentions.

u/Fantastic_Estate_303 7h ago
If it's fully stocked, has TV, internet etc and I can hibernate in it for 6 months of the year, then fuck yeah I'm having one

u/purple-thiwaza 7h ago
Very interested in which kind of doomsday you think internet/tv will still exist. Even electricity is a wildcard if you don't make it yourself

I know a guy, good guy, poor thing he has a monthly budget he and his wife set aside for dried foods and shit like that every month man. I told him I like the idea as a hobby but if the world ends, what fucking difference a year or two of me staying alive is going to do? He’s not young either.
I’m willing to bet that peppers will commit suicide way before their supplies run out just out of shear mental anguish
7
u/Solid-Dog-1988 6h ago
Depends entirely on the type of catastrophe that happens.
Something like the hurricane in western NC? A solid supply of food, clean water and alternative energy source would be invaluable in the event normal infrastructure is down for a few months.
Grid fully collapsed, global trade halts and super markets go barren? May as well check out now.
6
u/ThePlantMolester 6h ago
You don't need the world to end for a full stocked home to be good. You need supply lines to be down for a month. Remember covid? Most consumables off the shelf for the first week? Drag that out for another couple of weeks and he'll be eating dehydrated stew while you hope the next cracker drop from the government comes through.
People put too much faith in supply lines. Blow up 2 bridges in the North East and supply lines are fucked for a month. Sure, there will be food, but how much, how rationed, and how much exposure to harm to hope you get your share.
I'm happy to shelter in place, because I keep a couple of months of food on hand. Not going to survive the apocalypse, but 20 MREs and $100 worth of dehydrated food will be nice when the panty is empty.

u/TheRealBunkerJohn 5h ago
People truly have no idea how fragile our infrastructure is. Just on time deliveries, decades-old electrical systems...it's a jenga tower. Not saying everyone needs a bunker of course, but having just 2 weeks of self sufficient supplies is so dang cheap and easy to do, it should be the standard.
1
u/Got2Bfree 3h ago
I remember covid. I had to go to a second supermarket once to buy toilet paper. Other than that no prepping needed.
20 MREs are reasonable.
Preppers stock hundreds of cans which they have to eat after a few years because they still go bad.

u/Aggressive-Expert-69 2h ago
This is why I hate zombie themed media. Why are people so obsessed with surviving a zombie apocalypse??? Just die as God obviously intended.

It's good to always have a small population do this. That increases chances that humanity won't go extinct. Some bacteria kind of do the same when they make endospores.

Lol i followed a guy just cause of how dumb the shit he could say. I cant find his videos anynore so idk what happened but dude always looked so weak and sick. Lived in a soods with his wife and alwats every week " its over" "theyre coming" "get ready, its coming" follows the same thing every week and its him talking about that weeks news and how its gonna fall apart.
I guess 7 years of prepping and nothing hapoening he probably quit or died from the constant stress. Basically dude was homeless the way they lived

Why should I leave my money to someone when I die? its mine to do with what I want, and if I want to doomsday prep so be it.
Although living in a fully stocked bunker with premium Direct TV and Spectrum packages while the world goes to shit does sound enticing. Even if the world isn't going to shit, it still sounds really swell.

I want one to live in. As long as being in the bunker is optional, it can be like an adult clubhouse.

Well, in my country by law every apartment building with more than about 24 apartments, must have bunker in its basement.
But that is because certain country shares a big border with us.

I'm not a prepper. But even I know that anybody that admits to being a prepper is a bad prepper. Imagine if you are a known prepper and the food in the neighbourhood starts running out. Guess who's bunker door will be opened by heavy machinery.

u/GroundbreakingAd8310 5h ago
Depends, in a weather shift this man now has a tornado shelter all his neighbors dont and given changes we are seeing maybe we all should

If the events these people fear were ever to actually happen, they might manage to survive a little longer, but eventually that would be the end of it. Besides, they’re always going on about it. So if such a situation were to arise, everyone would know who still has reserves and where they are (*knockknock).

u/ham_solo 1h ago
Honestly, though, what is the long-term goal of the prepper? Sure, you might survive the initial collapse/bomb/EMP, etc., but how long can your canned food and MREs last you? Even if you've been able to grow your own food successfully, most people cannot survive on their own without modern technology - fertilizers, pest control, etc. All it takes is one bad harvest, plant disease, or bug infestation to leave you starving to death. What about water? If there's a nuclear event, how will you find uncontaminated water? There just seem to be so many factors to consider that unless you've already acclimated to long-term survival without modern tools, your chances of living out your life are about as good as the non-prepper.

You know the perfect doomsday prep? You build you bunker underground but you build a house with solar panels on top of that unconnected to the house except the wiring. You rent out that house. You can legally say you live there so you can get the homestead tax on that property instead of being taxed extra. The tenant pays for your water, you get your electricity for free, you get paid for it, and you don't need to share a living space.

I mean, I live in a peaceful country with no threats whatsoever, but the ideia of a underground shelter is cool. If I had a farm and a decent ammount of money, I could see myself building a underground minivault, just for the fun of it
