The Magic are rolling out new cost-saving options to make its home games more affordable for fans: • $20 ticket drops for every game • Free and discounted tickets for groups • $2–$7 concessions and alcohol • $15 apparel and new private label line • Free train service

Orlando Magic to Provide New Affordability Options for Home Games

ORLANDO – As part of the Orlando Magic’s commitment to accessibility the team has announced several new affordability options for all home games.

The team will offer options on tickets, merchandise and concessions bringing the live game experience closer to all fans.

“Making Magic games accessible to every fan has always been a priority for our organization, and this season we worked closely with the DeVos family to build on that commitment,” said Magic President of Business Operations Charlie Freeman. “From affordable ticket and concession options to retail merchandise deals, we want to make sure a Magic game remains within reach for families across our community. The DeVos family ownership has been clear that growth on the court should go hand-in-hand with keeping this experience affordable for the fans who support us every night.”

Variety of Ticket Options

The Magic will offer several ticket options to all Magic home games including group tickets and the Monthly Steals Program.

The program will provide $20 ticket options for every game with offers launched on the first of each month.

Group ticket programs include complimentary tickets through the Jr. Magic and Honor Roll programs with discounted tickets offered to OCPS school staff and through OneBlood donations.

For more information fans can visit https://orlandomagic.com/monthlysteals or call 407-89-MAGIC.

Expanded Retail Options

To make the game experience complete, fans will also find a variety of Magic merchandise options.

The retail item of the game and Eighty9 Collection will be available at every game. The item of the game includes merchandise starting at $15. Weekly deals can also be found in the Magic Authentics team shop at Kia Center that features a $15 hat or T-shirt. The affordable private-label option, Eighty9 Collection, will also be available at each game in the team shop.

Concession Choices

Additionally, there will be concession options in Slam Dunk section 115 and Flavors of Orlando section 218.

Those will include the Fan Favorites Value Menu featuring select food and beverage items priced between $2 and $7. Value menu items include hot dogs, pretzel bites, popcorn, nachos, cookies, chips, bottled water, soda and beer.

Get to the Game

The Magic will also continue to work with SunRail to ensure trains are running on weeknights postgame providing fans a free ride with a game ticket. SunRail stations exist in 17 locations around Central Florida including areas in DeLand and DeBary all offering a convenient drop off right by Kia Center.

This is pretty cool of them to do.

I just looked it up, and the magic have not been hurting for attendance. They consistently rank in the top 10 for arena attendance (both in overall tickets sold and relative to the arena capacity). So it's not like the magic were desperate to get more people to their games.

This just looks like a moment where the organization is genuinely just trying to do something to make things more affordable for their fans, even if that means profit margins are reduced for the Magic.

As someone who lives in Orlando that sounds surprising to me, lol. I figured our Orlando Pride games were getting more attendance than Magic games.

And the DeVos family owns the Orlando Magic so it’s doubly surprising.

You’d be surprised how many tourists spending the week at Disney make the trip downtown for a game

10

u/Retr0scores 2h ago

I would be surprised to hear that’s a high number considering Disney to DT is a decent haul and not a cheap uber. I’d be less surprised if we had a pretty good winning team with some super stars on it.

3

u/my__bollocks Magic 41m ago

Something like 1/10 attendees live over 300 miles from the arena (don’t quote me on the exact number I read it a couple years ago in the Sentinel).

3

u/Ok_Thing5957 1h ago

The Disney Resort is a 20 minute drive to the Magic arena. Universal studios is only a 15 minute drive.

A lot of travel websites will bundle Magic tickets with a Disney World/Universal Studio trip as well.

•

u/Retr0scores 5m ago

That’s on a good day.

It’s currently 30mins and goes up from there. Idon’t live too far away and Im lucky to get to Disney in 45mins. Whenever I go.

u/TheAnswerEK42 Magic 2h ago

Not even close the Magic get like 18k and the pride get like 6k

1

u/MaraudingWalrus [MIA] Ray Allen 2h ago

I also live in Orlando and have been continually surprised at how relatively expensive "cheap" tickets to games are, even last minute. Live like fifteen twenty minutes away, and even crazy nosebleed seats at eye level with Shaq's jersey are regularly $25-30. When I was in ATL, I'd see hawks tickets in the single digits. Same for hornets tickets.

u/Illini_Guy16 Slovenia 1h ago

Any suggestions on best ways to get to the arena if i'm coming from tampa? Been here a few years and have wanted to go, but driving I4 during rush hour is not my idea of a fun time

3

u/muratbae Supersonics 1h ago

Go to a Saturday afternoon game, most of the folks going to Disney from Tampa will have already arrived earlier in the day and on the way back traffic will be in the opposite direction for all the folks heading back from St. Pete/Clearwater to Orlando. It's the least miserable time to do the drive imo.

2

u/Only_My_Dog_Loves_Me 1h ago

I have family in Lakeland so I try and get to a magic or lightning game each time I visit. The fact there’s no light rail from Orlando to Tampa along the I-4 is crazy to me.

2

u/Illini_Guy16 Slovenia 1h ago

There’s the possibility of the bright line rail (the Miami to Orlando line) will extend from Orlando to Tampa in the next few years, but yea, nothing right now

1

u/Bluefunk1 51m ago

Doubt it since they’re bankrupt or about to be

•

u/Illini_Guy16 Slovenia 28m ago

Oof

21

u/WillofJ [MIA] Dwyane Wade 2h ago

It’s probably more like they found that cheaper concessions will lead to more people buying them and therefore more profit overall. Still a win-win

5

u/Were_So_Hip 2h ago

I have been to many Magic games where the crowd is more than half full of people in visitors gear. Knicks and Lakers are the worst, Heat fans travel well, and any team that has a superstar that’s popular are essentially road games. The last one I went to we played the Warriors - Steph had fuckin 55 or something… you’d have thought we were at the Oracle.

So yeah, nice attendance numbers forever, but hopefully the discounts here are really policed to keep them as benefits for the locals and real fans. Of which there are dozens! DOZENS!

2

u/JimJimmyJamesJimbo Magic 2h ago edited 2h ago

I wonder what percentage of attendance is tourists. On one hand, butts in seats make money on game day. On the other hand, you'd rather those butts be local people you can convert into life long fans. People who will buy a jersey for christmas and watch regular season games (and ads). International one-off attendees don't boost local TV ratings

u/GeologistTechnical61 Thunder 2h ago

Glad professional sports teams are adopting cheap and affordable concession stand food. No way a hot dog & a beer should cost $25. I believe Atlanta Hawks was the first one? Or was New Orleans Saints? I can’t remember who started lowering their prices.

197

u/MasterFussbudget Thunder 2h ago

Falcons and Suns are the teams I've heard about.

66

u/Tiny_Acanthaceae_844 1h ago

The falcons did it years before Ishbia even owned the Suns tbf, it started in 2017 when they moved to Mercedes Benz

5

u/HilariousScreenname Suns 33m ago

Diamondbacks have had a discount menu foreverrrrr. Im not sure where it's at now but I remember $1 glizzies and $4 beers making the 9-9-9 challenge real doable

•

u/dimmyfarm Supersonics 10m ago

Arthur Blank looks like a godfather but is on a very small list of the people I consider to be ethical billionaires

26

u/2coolcaterpillar Thunder 1h ago

Falcons are the first team to normalize fair concession prices, and I’ve actually seen quite a few stadiums follow suit, even if it’s just for core items.

I went to a Raiders game and the hot dogs, nachos, and soda were all $3. Coors draft was $10 which I’ll take.

Clippers seemed to have reasonable food prices BUT not for me smh. you have to be a certified clipper fan or something so Ballmer is kinda helping nobody there

9

u/Artimusjones88 Raptors 1h ago

Go to a Jays, Raptor of leaf game. Enjoy you slice of pizza and a beer for only $35.00. Water? 6, popcorn 10.00 it's ridiculous, but all are full every night abd people pay, so there is zero motivation to lower prices.... except loonie Dog nights every Tuesday for the Jays.

7

u/rabid-panda 1h ago

Think beer needs to be expensive just to reduce the number of drunk fans.

2

u/mucho-gusto [CLE] Baron Davis 1h ago

Did you ever hear the tragedy of ten cent beer night? I thought not. It’s not a story MLB would tell you…

4

u/Character_Bug_1862 1h ago

Meanwhile the Thunder are shrinking their arena size and increasing corporate suites. Bums me out a bit they’re going to lose some of that college atmosphere, hope it never gets as bad as the Lakers at least.

70

u/Ok-Tree4365 2h ago

Say what you will about Ballmer, but since the Clippers have been at Intuit Dome, they have offered free shuttle service from 5 locations around LA County; created a fan section (The Wall) with cheaper tickets; always have an "item of the game" merch option that's at least 50% off; the food and drinks are cheaper and better than they are at the Crypt (or the other NBA arenas I've been to in Chicago and Milwaukee); and have seriously cut down on lines for concessions and entrance, and made lines for bathrooms non-existent.

18

u/theyoloGod Tampa Bay Raptors 1h ago

Ballmer loves his team and has no problem spending on it. He loves spending so much he’s willing to pay off the books. Now obviously cheating damages your PR but there’s no doubt he’s not one of those fucks trying to bleed you for every dollar

14

u/thedrcubed Grizzlies 1h ago

I'm not mad at Ballmer anymore. He cheated, got caught and has been appropriately punished. On top of that, they never won anything so it's not like there's a tainted championship

4

u/Brochacho27 [MIA] James Posey 1h ago

u/spraypaint23 2h ago

The crypt and the Lakers are a money grab so it’s not that great a comparison. Because of the franchise being what it is, they haven’t had to the hard for a while but totally agree with you on the Intuit dome.

Went to a random Hawks game when I was in town for work 4-5 years ago, just on my own.

Sat in the lower level for a good price, had some decent stadium food and a few beers for under $50, and the crowd was energetic and into it.

Had a great experience and even saw Mike Brey (of Notre Dame coaching fame) watching the game several rows in front of me, which may only interest me lol

4

u/zrizzoz Hawks 1h ago

Hawks arent owned by Blank just fyi.

Same food/drink that costs 50 at a hawks game costs like $14 at a falcons or atlanta united game

Being able to attend a game as a kid is one of the fastest ways to become a lifelong fan. These NBA teams need to figure out how to generate that kind of loyalty.

10

u/MyManC707 2h ago

Phoenix suns started this movement I believe. They easily have one of the best owners in the NBA

5

u/Smooth_Specialist416 2h ago

Hawks did it pre covid (I weirdly remember stuff very well right before covid)  https://www.nba.com/hawks/news/state-farm-arena-food-and-beverage-scores-skyrocket-top-nba

1

u/Armanewb Spurs 1h ago

I don't think the Hawks ever cut the prices on food, they just get awards because there's a bunch of vendors that are satellites of award winning chefs in the city. The Falcons are the ones that set the price of concessions super low.

-3

u/Skipton Knicks 2h ago

Is he? He’s made concessions cheaper and improved tv viewing, which is awesome. But his roster management has destroyed their chance to compete for quite a while. Personally, I’d prefer almost any other owner

2

u/Reasonable_Emu_2636 55m ago

Context of doing things for the fans, not running the team my guy

•

u/Skipton Knicks 29m ago

Except in this case the context includes both of those things when determining if the owner is good or not

1

u/HilariousScreenname Suns 31m ago

The roster moves are unfortunate, but to me it showed he actually gave a shit. It didnt work out and that SUCKS for sure, but I feel like hes learning and am personally excited for the future of the franchise. He's made the fan experience so much better, from viewing games to actually going to them.

•

u/Skipton Knicks 9m ago

I don't doubt that he gives a shit, I just don't place as great of an emphasis on that. I'm not so sure he's learned much considering the future unprotected pick for Miles Bridges just happened.

26

Ive always thought every team should partner with boys & girls clubs and youth sports teams.

Set up a portal where those can get tickets for kids for basically nothing and parents for a discount if theyre bringing a kid

  • you fill out the empty seats which looks better and creates a better environment

  • you create lifelong fans

  • kids have to eat and want merch, so theyll spend money

  • kids need parents to bring them, so parents will pay more to get in.

Alcohol being expensive at sports events is good policy though, food and non-alcoholic drinks should obviously be much cheaper in general

u/speedoboy17 1h ago

30

u/super_sayanything Bulls 2h ago

Man just let people enjoy themselves for a lot of people they only get to one or two games.

6

u/BSantos57 Heat 1h ago

Alcohol being relatively expensive SHOULD (which doesn't mean it automatically happens in the age of greed we're currently living) lower ticket prices and allow those people to go to more games, in theory.

The core experience (a seat + basic food and water) should be cheaper, and since owners will never lose out on profits voluntarily, the other add-ons (alcohol, most of team merch, etc...) should cover that gap.

You guys also have the huge problem of resellers fucking over the common person who just wants to go to a ball game, but that's unrelated to this topic

24

u/Sm0k3inth3tr33s Celtics 2h ago

Funny, that's the only thing I think really doesn't matter. Discouraging alcohol consumption would solve 99% of issues between fans at games.

42

u/yogiyogiyogi69 2h ago

I agree to a certain extent, but people just get drunk before the game on the parking lot to save money

23

u/randotd152 2h ago

Alcohol related issues are not because people are drinking too much during games, it's because they're drinking too much BEFORE games.

Further to it, in many cases, people are drinking more before games precisely because of how expensive beers are at the games. You can go to pretty much any popular pre-game bar near a stadium and hear somebody near you say something like "yeah we have 10 more minutes, grab me a shot and one more beer to chug, gotta get it in before paying $20 apiece at the game."

5

u/Far_Excitement6140 1h ago

The issue is alcohol end of story.

Damn bro above you predicted your lame ass answer before you even made it 😂

→ More replies (6)

2

u/ldclark92 Pacers 2h ago

Why do these things have to go to the extreme? Is it really that hard to understand that someone would much rather have the option to have a beer at a game for a reasonable price vs not having a drink because they're charging exorbitant prices for cheap beer? Yes, it's problematic if the only way you can enjoy an event is through drinking, but an adult wanting to have a drink/s at a game thinking that makes the experience better is not inherently problematic.

The conversation around price gouging shouldn't be an opportunity take the moral high horse on fellow fans. Let people enjoy the game they want to and let's all push back on corporations raising prices simply for the sake of higher profits.

Family of four wants to go see a game, and is okay with nosebleeds.

$20/ticket = $80

Fountain drink, 2 hotdogs, a bag of chips per person, or something along those lines. Call it $12/person in snacks. = $48

T-shirt for everybody = $60

A fun family night out for less than $200 isn’t the worst thing in the world. But the team certainly won’t be losing any money on the transaction.

Hopefully every team around the league does this too especially the concession prices

2

u/Fun_Cheetah2750 2h ago

Prob not the lakers or the nyk

6

u/Aggravating-Body-721 2h ago

I hope more Teams get on board & make attending games for the average fan & their families more affordable.

5

u/Jacked-and-hung 2h ago

The phoenix suns put all concessions at super low prices ($2?)

10

u/gm5891 2h ago

I'd love to see this shit in Toronto, prices are in the stratosphere

6

u/sambalbelacan Raptors 2h ago

Asking a telcom giant to be cheap ah ha aha ahahaa. 😞

5

u/gm5891 2h ago

The only hope is that they introduced those $20 GA tickets for the Jays

2

u/Key_Change_6635 Magic 2h ago

Would you say Trish Stratusphere?

2

u/gm5891 2h ago

Yes

2

u/Key_Change_6635 Magic 2h ago

Hell yeah

2

u/Stock_Coat9926 2h ago

Do y’all remember the sprite zone? Good times

2

u/gm5891 2h ago

Now it's the fucking kombucha zone

3

u/randotd152 2h ago

The item of the game includes merchandise starting at $15. Weekly deals can also be found in the Magic Authentics team shop at Kia Center that features a $15 hat or T-shirt.

Never understood why sports teams don't sell basic clothing like t-shirts and hats more cheaply. Costs literally nothing and it's free advertising. And you probably sell 3x as many t-shirts at $15 than you do at $30.

u/TheAnswerEK42 Magic 2h ago

So I tried to buy those 20.00 tickets and they sold out so fast! Idk how many the released but hopefully people who buy them actually use them

2

u/Particular-Cake-6430 2h ago

Is it even real? Or is it like southwest get away tickets that never existed.

1

u/boiohboioh Supersonics 2h ago

I hope so, you'd have to be a total degenerate to scalp magic tickets. 2 weeks in and secondary sites will have $10 cheap seats after they start stinking up the joint.

1

u/TheAnswerEK42 Magic 1h ago

Don’t let the national media and this sub fool you, Magic are gonna be in the mix for home court in the east.

*The rest of this is super dope and commendable full stop

But can we add a later final stop time for the sunrail than 11:30 now jesus

3

u/donkeyinparadise NBA 2h ago

Love this.

3

u/_Jetto_ NBA 2h ago

Yay this is cool

3

u/Sherwood_RipCity Trail Blazers 2h ago

Oh shit, I would kill for $7 dollar beer at the Rose Garden.

1

u/One_Wrap_5584 1h ago

They sell $5 cans at two in arena locations and have for at least the last 3-4 seasons

3

u/FromAmericaMC Suns 2h ago

Mat Ishbia gets a ton of hate, when without him, all of these teams wouldn't have lowered their prices. Shoutout Mat!

3

u/Drawing_The_Line 2h ago

Good on the Magic. This type of thing needs to become more common. Silver’s “Let them eat cake” moment last season about restrictive TV and streaming costs with a “they can watch highlights” was a very bad look and completely tone deaf.

3

u/Longjumping_Fuel_192 2h ago

This is the way.

3

u/Cheap-Kiwi-1312 Supersonics 2h ago

Man the Seattle teams are so ridiculously prices it's insane. Can only imagine if we ever get the sonics back it's going to be even more ridiculous. Beer at a mariners game is 20 bucks a can.

3

u/YanwarC 1h ago

Denver?!?

3

u/EnvyMushroomTip Celtics 1h ago

Looks like I’ll be catching some magic games this year

3

u/resident_hater Bulls 1h ago

Fuck the DeVos family.

That is all.

3

u/likewoahitsaj Bucks 1h ago

This rules

3

u/fps129 Knicks 2h ago

Big ups to the Magic. Sucks that moves like this are considered “bold” when it should be the expectation.

4

u/Ibleedred99 Clippers 2h ago

The clippers owe a lot more than this to their fan base after kawhi and 8ball smh

2

u/AtomicBlastCandy Timberwolves 2h ago

Hate the owners but love this

2

u/TrueDeadBling Bucks 2h ago

W Magic

As an Australian, I really wish sports teams over here would adopt a similar way of thinking in regards to tickets and concessions. So expensive to attend live sports over here.

2

u/4espa Lakers 2h ago

20 dollars up of food is just criminal nowadays

2

u/Few_Position_2727 76ers 2h ago

I took my family to Disney world last year and got Hornets vs Magic tickets last minute for $18/each. Decent seats in the middle section too

2

u/vballboy55 Bulls 2h ago

Reisdorf would never. God he sucks.

2

u/1_2_3_4_5_SIXERS 2h ago

Bravo 👏👏👏

2

u/DG2301 1h ago

We all know the blazers will be the last team in the league to do something like this

2

u/brojay Trail Blazers 1h ago

Not ripping off your fanbase in the US is socialism

2

u/Difficult-Nose3464 2h ago

Very cool. Unfortunately, its still in Orlando.

1

u/Key_Change_6635 Magic 2h ago

Magic 2026-2027 Champions.

1

u/StandYourGroundhog Raptors 2h ago

Sounds good to me

1

u/Dangerous_Ad5039 2h ago

Should be like this everywhere. Especially concession prices.

1

u/Apart_Selection7722 Nuggets 2h ago

Nice

1

u/deftechsoldout Magic 2h ago

Of course they do this after I move out of Florida. That said, this is great for the local fans.

1

u/enblightened 1h ago

Would be nice if they did a lottery for the discount tickets, the drops just get snapped in seconds and can be botted too

1

u/vinniedomino 1h ago

Would love if Canadian sports or just events in general did the same. Just existing in Toronto is 50$ minimum

1

u/ElMaskedZorro 1h ago

Assuming this isn't performative good on the magic for this.

This really should be the answer when people ask the question about where the money in sport should go.

Make some of it go back to the fans.

1

u/mucho-gusto [CLE] Baron Davis 1h ago

Did Amway get a gift from Trump or something?

1

u/Low_Obligation5558 32m ago

It’s just proof that it’s been affordable all along, they just chose to scalp us for the fun of it.

•

u/abarthsimpson 24m ago

Every team that takes tax dollars for their stadium should be forced to do this.

•

u/dotcaIm Timberwolves 20m ago

Love that, really happy for magic fans

•

u/betterplanwithchan Hornets 16m ago

See that, Spectrum Center?

It is possible.

•

u/GoGreeb 13m ago

This trend has to continue, in-person events have become so incredibly unaffordable. Happy for Orlando fans!

1

u/Millennialnerds Pacers 2h ago

Sweet. I live an hour or so away. Maybe I will actually go to a game lol. But not for the magic….

1

u/JenovaJireh 76ers 2h ago

Still have no idea how it got so expensive in the first place, I went to a game in Philly last season where a slice of pizza and a Diet Coke cost me over $20… I can get TWO slices and a bev right around the corner from my house lol

1

u/Artimusjones88 Raptors 1h ago

In other words they get shitty crowds and want the building close to full. They are not doing it for the fans

1

u/jcampo13 76ers 1h ago

They ranked 14th in attendance and are one of the smaller markets in the league. I wouldn't call that a bad result.
