The crazy part of that episode is that it features Mel Gibson as America's most beloved and well-regarded movie star.

He fires that thing, it's disappearing over his shoulder. LOL
20
u/TheMaveCan 2h ago
Funniest thing is that he seems like the kind of guy that has gone shooting before. I know Z-List actors aren't going through special forces training for their roles but it's wild that he doesn't even know how to hold the fuckin thing
14
u/Prestigious-Bat-574 1h ago
The problem is more likely that he's too fucking fat and lazy to put any effort into holding the gun correctly.
3
u/LazyTitan39 1h ago
He has an extra in this movie for carrying a man up and down a flight of stairs. To be fair, I probably couldn’t do that either, but I don’t call myself an action star.

his films are almost entirely used for money laundering it literally doesn't matter wtf he does
4
u/BasicEditor5965 1h ago
If it fires 5.56 it actually is not going over his shoulder, there's barely any recoil on that rifle.

/uj this footage is really cool, I'm super biased since Heat is my favorite film but seeing how they actually just did the gunfight for real on a LA street is so refreshing and impressive compared to all the greenscreen "Savana Georgia shot for New York/LA/Whatever" you see nowadays, not to mention how long the action is; emerg from cover to move to cover and shoot, then run to cover and stop/stand to shoot at a target that presented itself. Also that Al Pacino is really just hoofing a FNC like a LAPD detective would, not some hypertrained former spec ops protagonist. It's like seeing how the sausage is made but it's actually just seeing ground pork and spices not like a slaughter house.
/rj he's chasing after the guy who stole his DUNKACHINO

City's aren't letting you shut down multiple streets in downtown to fire blanks full auto anymore. It was so loud Mann thought the Foley gun shots sounded boring in comparison.

I think it was during this scene that Val Kilmer did a reload they still teach it as perfect in the marines and law enforcement.

This one. To the letter perfect for how to reload quickly while under fire.
Firing > Out of ammo > Into cover > Reload weapon in cover > Out of cover > Firing
Iirc he and the other robbers were trained by Andy McNabb of the British SAS on weapons handling, hence why they look so much more comforting with assault rifles compared to the cops.

This also makes me realize that any psyho with a gun on the streets actually does look like these actors in Heat it's isn't just my imagination.
Their. Their imagination. It isn't just their imagination.

I think basing a film on something like this would be too controversial, they'd get alot of Heat from the backlash.

Uj/ I asked a coworker for a "dunkachino" and she said she got flustered when she actually asked the Dunkin employee for that, I felt a mix of shame, second hand embarrassment and anger...mostly the anger that neither of them knew the reference.

Fun fact. The set of Virtuosity with Denzel Washington was one block over in downtown LA. Filming had to pause for this gunfight. I was there back when production was literally all over the place and it was amazing.
