Meme/Macro my dxracer gaming chair dies today
the metal part in the middle, between my butt and the chair pole - which I really hope never ends up in my ass - has completely broken in half after a few years.
Because of this, the chair can now tilt much more. So whenever I sit down, I basically end up leaning forward or to the side at a completely fucked-up angle.
looking for a new one now :(

Don't buy a gaming chair, it is a scam, buy a office chair or recliner, they sit on it all day for decades.
Edit:
The whole point of a chair to be comfort to sit for long time is that it can distribute your body weight along your butt to your back.
Ideally you can lay on a recliner just like on a bed, without hurting your poor lumbar.
That's why I say gaming chair is a scam, there is no gaming chair, only a chair can properly do such simple task, maybe you find some office chair not comfortable, just find a different shape fits the curve of your height and size

Companies attach “gaming” to slop chairs and sell them for a $200 markup. My Amazon office chair consistently impresses my friends with all those gaming chairs you see on Youtube.

i got a mesh office chair from staples for like $150 and have used it daily for 5+ years. it’s just now starting to give out and i’m looking to replace it, but it’s been super comfortable with lots of adjustments. you can definitely get good chairs cheaper, and office stores usually have a good selection you can try out in person
edit: looks like they still sell it here, i never used the headrest but otherwise it’s been great for $150
11
u/Kennypoo2 22h ago
Been using this chair with a footrest for nearly a decade and I swear it actually gets rid of my back pain. Almost as comfortable as laying on my back in bed. No swamp ass and doesnt hold farts. 10/10 best office or gaming chair I've ever owned.

Just get something you like AND that forces you into a good posture.
Short term comfort can lead to long term pain, and while good posture can be annoying at first it's far far more comfortable when you get used to it and your chair helps you sit properly.

Yeah I bought a new chair earlier this year and that brand was getting repeated over and over in a post I made. Then people just suggested getting a used one for cheaper. Like man I’ve ripped 10,000 farts in each chair I’ve owned and sat butt naked in all of them too im not buying a used one

My Herman Miller Aeron was ~$500.
Don't buy these chairs new. Buy them from a certified resller on Ebay. They even come with a warranty. I've had my Aeron for ~6 years and it's identical to the day I took it out of the box other than the headrest I added.

All those startups buy these expensive chairs then they get liquidated hardly used
11
u/PockeTime 12h ago
I was taught early on. There's three things in life you shouldn't worry about the cost of when you buy them. You make sure you get the right product for your body regardless of cost, getting these things wrong has the potential to really mess you up in the long term.
- Shoes
- Mattress
- Chair
ALWAYS get the right thing for your specific needs when it comes to these. Your body will thank you for it.

Government-surplus auctions and office liquidations are a goldmine for this. Aeron, Mirra, Embody, Leap, and Gesture chairs for pennies on the dollar compared to full price.
The really good chairs are so adjustable they can generally be made to fit (though some, like the Aeron, come in multiple sizes so that's a consideration for especially big or small folks). That being said, as an owner of the Logitech collab Embody, I would point out that the Embody in particular is not as versatile as the others... the Mirra I had at my previous job had better adjustability and would probably be a better fit for someone with OP's... unique... sitting posture, lol. The Embody does not want to be sat in any way but ergonomically.

I'd say secretlab is the exception to the rule. Genuinely comfortable. I got the genuine leather 2020 edition and it's still holding up. My only issue is that the armrests keep coming loose and jiggling to I have to disassemble them to retighten. I should honestly add some locktite.
Oh, also the armrests are unfortunately polyurethane so they disintegrated after some time but that was within the warranty period and they replaced the pads.
The current versions of the chairs have armrests you can more easily swap out for different materials iirc

The arms on my embody chair started falling apart over the last year lol. It's currently 7 years old. When I contacted HM about some concerns they told me to go bug a dealer and the dealers told me to buzz off.

I like my secret lab too, probably a bit overpriced compared to something else, but it is comfortable and it has held up well after 5 years or so.... But the arm rests may need to be swapped soon as the plastic is starting to deteriorate around the edges where they flex up and down as I lean on them.
(Hot swappable, so should be relatively easy fix, just need to order new ones from their website) Otherwise the seat padding seems to have held up alright, I don't feel any hard bits through the butt pad, which I did with my previous chair after less time (also significantly cheaper chair)

Compared to the office chairs people are recommending in this thread, they're honestly a great price. I have a SteelCase that runs you $1600 new, and I'm jealous of my wife's secretlab chair. My SteelCase was used at $600 but I still want to squeeze every bit of cusion out of it

Like anything, it depends on the chair. Got a Clutch gaming chair 10 years ago and it's super comfortable, I can sit in it for hours without getting a sore back or anything and it's still in great condition. It's very sturdy too being made of mostly metal rather than plastic
2
u/CRVX_r34 6h ago
I need new one, mine is not as bad as OP's but it definitely needs to be replaced, my back is killing me, even with all the support it supposedly has, it doesn't work.

This is great advice, but only if you can afford it. I picked up my "gaming" chair from Amazon in a sale a few years ago for 70 quid, plus I had 40 quids worth of vouchers saved up from various sources, so essentially I paid 30 pounds for it.
I don't have the money to invest in a decent office chair up front, and it's not like I can simply save the money I would otherwise spend on cheaper chairs and put it towards one, as I still need something to sit in while I'm saving.
*sighs in cost of living*

Yeah I got a nice little Dowinx chair a few years ago for $150 and it's still in peak condition (and the back massager is so good lol). Gaming chairs as a whole are terrible *but* if you do some research, you can find some that are pretty good quality.
2
u/zestfullybe 19h ago
I have a couple of those Dowinx chairs, too. I like them for a moderately priced chair. I have one at my desk and another I use just for gaming. I like the built in foot stool. I can recline, kick back, play for hours.
2
u/Meta-Fox 23h ago
3 guesses what my chair is, but you'll only need one! Ha ha.
I don't use the back massager myself (mines just a crappy little usb powered rumble motor) but again, for what was essentially a 30 quid chair I'm not complaining. It's holding up well so far to daily use, I like the footrest, the included lumbar support is good enough, I'm more than happy. Plus I reckon it's got another few years left in it, winner!
2
u/Impressive-Board2652 22h ago
See, I don't have either. I know it's really weird, but so far I haven't got shrimp posture from using it. I use a lazy boy recliner chair, and I put the keyboard on my lap, and my mouse on the armrest. It's super comfy, and this is the onl7 reason I haven't gotten an office chair

Get a non gaming chair, they are better in every way. I've yet to see a "gaming chair" that didn't look like a TEMU grade "racing" bucket seat that a 17 year old would throw into a 90's Honda.
And the thing with actual racing buckets is that they are designed to hold you in place under extreme cornering speeds and wrecks, not keep your ass and spine comfortable. Get something designed to be sat in comfortably for hours and your gaming life will be so much better, so thats stuff like nice office chairs or living room furniture.
