Desperate, actually.
Outrage sells twice what any good news does.
If you can, remember how you felt when Obama made it in first time. Now triple that and convert it to a butt-hurt burning rage.
Edit: to be clear, here in CANADA, most of my friends felt euphoric. We realized at the time of Obama that you guys had turned a corner and would never be butt-fucking-stupid ever again. Democracy was saved. We so knew it.

I agree it's not going to go away in a poof. Trumping is another form of racism/ hate that's multi facsited in the rejection of intellectualism.
If anything they will shrink and be less vocal like racists were before Trump.
The hate and ignorance will be taught to younger generations not lucky enough to not be born into families that think that way continting the cycle of ignorance and hate.
These people have been embolden to come out of the closet with their shittiness because the people holding office basically say and show its okay to be an ignorant ass MF no matter where they go.
And like racism of the not so before times, it needs to be called out, shamed, provwn wrong to force the ignorant bigots back into their troglodite caves.

Agree to disagree and have understanding without hate and violence. We can break free of the ungabunga monkey genes in us lol

True. If you looked at most subreddits during the last election, you would’ve thought Kamala was winning by a landslide.
At the end of the day every subreddit is just a bubble.

Can’t say this enough. Reddit is a bubble. Every election they think the right will be swiftly defeated. I’ve seen Reddit get it wrong since 2016. I live in a purple area and was always getting hate for saying Trump was going to win. Would be disappointing to see the same thought process play out AGAIN.

Reddit consistently overestimates its own level of intelligence and insight, almost as much as they overestimate everyone else's.

Picture 1 is what people think is happening to the MAGA base. Picture 2 is what is actually happening: despite horrendous bullshit across the board never seen in US history, the support still remains. Even when their lives are markedly made worse in the last year they still blindly support. It's not stupid or sad, it's fucking scary people can think and rationalize their decisions in such a crooked manner

Its died out a lot and he has done irreparable damage to the entire conservative party as a whole. But that doesn't people should get complacent. Complacency is the reason we all wound up here in the first place. He still has his die hard MAGA base and he is still willing to break any and every law to hold onto power.

u/JenkinsRobotButler 14d ago
Also, empty arenas mean nothing. This was a very popular narrative in the 2024 elections -- the empty seats in Trump rallies and the people leaving early (which was true). Still won the popular vote. Still got more votes than 2020. At one point I heard some analyst make the case that Trump's events are treated as a kind of a novelty by his supporters. The most hardcore supporters don't bother going to them because they've already seen it. They're still hardcore supporters.
So basically, we should not judge Trump's popularity by stadium attendance. The two are uncorrelated. For all the shit that Trump has done or said in the last 10 years, Trump has not lost supporters, he's only gained them. We should not give in to the false sense of security that now finally his base is abandoning him. There's no solid evidence that's happening.
5
u/LordRobin------RM 14d ago
If I may nitpick, he most certainly has lost supporters. You don’t get down to a 35% approval rating unless some people who used to like you don’t anymore. Even his base has been whittled down, if the conspicuous lack of Trump signs in places that used to be full of them means anything.
But you are correct in that he has a rock-solid hardcore inner base that worship the guy and will never drop him, no matter what he does or fails to do. He has become their identity by this point.

The MAGA loser supporters are too poor and scattered far. No one is driving hours and hours away during a work day to see him for an hour.
When Democrats host these kind of events, it's in cities that are already Democrat and super close in proximity.
It's why it looked like Kamala was going to win in 2024.

It is Texas. Dallas is one of the bastions of progressive voters in the state.
Dallas has been liberal leaning for decades, along with the other 4 largest urban centers in the state (Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and El Paso). Ft Worth (which gets sort of mingled in with Dallas as "DFW") has wavered back and forth over the years (Biden won Ft Worth), but the repubs haven't won any of the urban centers for over 20 years.
The problem is the sea of red ("Hicks in the sticks") that always outnumber the urban voters and keep my state in the fucking stone age.

He actually bought a ranch so he had an excuse to get photo-ops wearing a cowboy hat and acting like he was a rancher. He played it up constantly, bringing out the press corps to see him demontrate his manly rancher bonafides by clearing brush from the fence line (in the middle of the day, when no real rancher would do it) and throwing out pithy comments to the press about how if Congress didn't pass his bills he was going to go back to his ranch and manage his herd.
Total phony. Sold the ranch as soon as he was out of office. But, you know, he was authentic, not like those phonies Al Gore and John Kerry.

Op didn’t call it an empty audience, just called out that it was not a sold out arena as Trump claimed.
You don’t have to dramaticize and make up falsehoods about what was said by OP, the post never claimed to be of an empty audience.
Second picture also definitely does not show a packed house; the upper level is practically empty and half the floor isn’t even being used for seating.
Misrepresenting stuff is a bad thing, and I don’t know why you yourself chose to misrepresent what someone else said/posted in your complaint about misrepresentation.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Scruffynerffherder 14d ago
I wouldn't call no one in the top tier a "packed house". But I get your point.
2
u/Evadrepus 14d ago
Theres a large press section, all the area behind the stage and plenty of open chairs in the open deck in a stadium that only seats 21,000 , but it wasn't empty. It also wasn't sold out with thousands waiting outside loke he said. It was over half, lets say 15k being generous.
Still too many, but you also see more people watching a Disney on Ice.
2
u/counterpointguy 14d ago
I agree the second picture is a more accurate representation, but that is not a “packed house.” It’s a large crowd, but a packed house is a full or near full stadium. The arena is about 60-70% capacity maybe.
4
u/garyp714 14d ago

Where did they say it was "an empty audience"? It's ironic how you're lying about what they said while criticizing them for being dishonest.
And while I also get tired of all the misleading info on reddit where people cherry pick things to fit their narrative, the fact that OP provided the full context is what really matters. Yes showing the empty section shows their bias, but they're still being accurate by providing the full photo. We need more people with your energy on so many other posts.

Don’t use this as too much of a bellwether for Trump/Republicans’ chances. His rallies in 2024 were continuously underattended, down to one where they literally just had a couple hundred people crammed behind him on camera and the rest of the arena was empty. Meanwhile Harris was throwing rallies that looked like rock concerts and yet here we are again. Vote like your life depends on it.

Honestly, knowing the amount of nutjobs still follow him - I would not be surprised if it being half-full is due to something like heightened security or some kind of background-check requirement for those who were allowed to attend.
I am not delusional about how many people like Trump, even though I hate him to the core of my being. The only numbers I care about are those that come from the voters. Polls are BS, Trump trying to rig elections are worse.
But I don't think a half-filled arena is indicative of much. The midterms need a blue wave.

Yeah, it's not sold out, but that's a reasonably full house. Certainly fuller than I usually see at most of Trump's silly little Grindr breaking events. To be fair, the majority of his actual living, breathing supporters are no more competent than the inanimate flags seated instead.
It's a nice metaphor, really, speaks to how shallow it is to be MAGA. "I don't actually know the definition of patriotism or have the capacity to understand its complexity, so I just wear the flag and my dear leader's face on my clothes and yell about and at people he tells me are wrong."
