Mike Johnson: See, this is what I am talking about with the Democrats. They would take away this man's healthcare when he absolutely needs it, and take away his paycheck when he provides for his family.
And he wouldn't detect a single note of irony as he said it.

Calling them "hypocrites" is a waste of breath—it assumes they actually have principles to betray.
This isn't a moral blind spot; it's a calculated power play. They will rewrite the rules in real time and spin any plausible excuse because, to them, words aren't beliefs—they are just weapons.
Hypocrisy isn't a flaw in their system; it is the system. Stop waiting for a "gotcha" moment, and stop expecting consistency from people whose only true religion is power.
15
u/genericreddituser147 17d ago
Exactly this. You’ll always be disappointed going for this kind of rhetorical win. They just don’t care enough about anything to be hypocrites. It’s always just what needs to be said in the moment to get what they want. No lasting meaning or precedent.

u/Solomaxwell6 17d ago edited 17d ago
They do need a majority, yes. A committee needs to vote to start hearings, and the minority party controls no committees. A minority can do things like call witnesses, but that'd require Republicans to start some hearing broadly enough scoped to slot McConnell in.
Even if the Dems did have a majority, what would be the point? It was pretty open McConnell had some kind of medical emergency. Maybe it's shown he's incompetent to serve in the senate, but his term is up in a few months and he's not running for reelection. The reason the GOP did it to Lloyd Austin is because he was SecDef, it was embarrassing to the Biden administration and they did have to worry about an election.

Now, we have a President openly accepting bribes, everyone trading stocks with insider information, and literal corpses still in congress.
It's the rules of Airbud if instead of a dog playing in a small town basketball game, Bud was elected to be President. You bet your ass that some Republican would be searching the requirements and "I mean...there's no rules that says a dog can't be president. It states citizenship and age..." before trying to define what citizenship means.

This is what happens when journalism fails to uphold their duty to report truthfully.
Every day, a dozen crimes are committed against the rights of US citizens and foreign nations by the people we elected. Every day, a dozen chirping heads on each channel take to the airwaves to gaslight, downplay, and distract from those offenses.
And so our population doesn't understand how our country is being dismantled by profiteers. We don't understand how our voting rights are being eroded and subverted to neuter the only power any of us actually exercise. We refuse to believe our education system is in its death throes as children are unable to perform without the assistance of AI. We are blind to the scale of foreign influence being poured into our politics and businesses seeking to entirely dismantle the American superpower. We fail to take action because they tell us this is all just politics playing out in the Capitol and that it really doesn't affect our average, day to day lives.
And for the most part, people believe them, even against the evidence of their own eyes all around them. Rural towns are festering corpses of what they once were. Healthcare is wholly unaffordable. Our food can no longer be presumed as safe to eat. Our options as consumers are rapidly conglomerating into illusions of choice that all provide dramatically worse products and services than we used to enjoy even only a decade ago. Our purchasing power can barely cover our expenses from one paycheck to the next, even as all our employers rave about record profits on their earnings reports.
But we still all act like we can fix it all if our guy wins the next election, so we sit on our asses for years at a time and do nothing but post our outrage on the internet so it can be tacitly ignored and tactically undermined in the next day's news cycle.
And tomorrow again, the world will be worse than it was today. And again, we will resign ourselves to our powerlessness to make it any better and carry ourselves to work to protect what little we have left because that is all we are being told to think and do, like good little ants toiling between the tongues of fat, happy anteaters.

Is he still in the "hospital". Imagine the medical bill for your average person.

Kinda fucked up they can find a anti Trump shitposter and send an FBI agent to their house, but can't nobody can find McConnel?
Woman needs a medical abortion? Track her across the lands. But an immobilized Mitch? Hell nah.
Maybe if someone reported him as brown to ICE they'd be able to find him faster.

He won't show and nothing will be done about it. And really, nobody should be surprised at all by that turn of events.

He is still getting paid and therefore stealing from the American people.

Governor Andy Bashear should just lower flags to half mast and announce the date of his memorial.
Closed casket in the state capital rotunda.
And if they release photos of him, just continue. It's not proof he's alive.

There was a video of him being confused and lost even before the hospitalization, and his staff had to correct his vote. He was not all there even then, why is nobody talking about that video?

The Senate returns to Washington, D.C. for the first time in more than five weeks, but it remains to be seen whether Mitch McConnell will show up for work.
The 84-year-old Kentucky senator has been absent for 92 days after being hospitalized on June 14. His team has remained tight-lipped on whether he would be back after the August recess.
The Senate convenes at 3 pm ET for the first time since leaving town on August 10. The first vote is at 5:30pm ET.

I mean, if he walks in there, smiling and waving... 3 months, you couldn't call the Governor for 30 seconds? While the whole world speculates you're dead?
He is fucking dead, of course, but imagine the gall. Even for Mitch McConnell that'd be a dick move of the millennium.

At this point, there’s really nothing Moscow Mitch can do that would make me hate him more and nothing would surprise me coming from this scumbag turtle
And like all Republicans, he clearly doesn’t care what anyone else thinks about him as long as he’s getting his money and destroying the country bit by bit

u/7askingforafriend 17d ago
Also, what kind of job pays you for 5 weeks off and then when you get back you don’t have to show up until 3pm? What a joke

u/FizzyBeverage Ohio 17d ago
Who the fuck starts at 3pm if you’re not a restaurant or maybe a musician playing nights 🙄
They should be there 8am sharp. It’s a federal office. Like court.

Imagine being 83 and still wanting to like project the shit you want onto the rest of the youthful, young, growing world.
What a scumbag, I can’t even imagine living like that.
Makes me wonder like at what age did all mirth abandon him?

Just appoint a replacement/have a special election - whatever is the process. Mitch is dead or brain dead, start acting like it and let the GOP prove otherwise.

Our political system needs an entire overhaul from the top to the bottom at this point. There needs to be an age maximum for politicians and there needs to be set in stone protocol for major health events like this. If you cannot show up to the senate floor, you cannot do your job. Period. It isn’t like this is a woman who will be back after maternity leave, or someone broke a hip and had surgery and will return after x amount of weeks. They have had he will no longer show up weeks ago. They haven’t given the public proof of life and they haven’t even had him like video chat into a senate meeting so at the very least our representatives can see he is ok.

How is it D-Day? what happens if he doesn't show up? Another strongly worded letter from beshear?

This shit is so enraging to me. This man HAS BEEN DEAD GONE FOR LIKE 3 MONTHS and our admin is just ignoring it!!! Everybody is so tired to even have the emotional capacity to care but it's probably the most brazen example of this admin's corruption/double standards. He votes against maternity leave but can take a break with no info for months. Feel like I live in a horrible simulation where all the worst things happen and no one around me cares or worse, they cheer it on! I'm going crazy.
Edit; Well fuck y'all, he's alive.

To be fair, he might not be dead. He might have just had a massive stroke and is no longer mentally competent to serve. We won’t know until after the midterms either way because the government is completely corrupt and the biggest media entities with the most access won’t do their jobs.

As of right now he is 1 hour and twenty two minutes late to work. He’s dead or a vegetable.

u/Ok-Top-3519 17d ago
I’m betting that he’s laid up somewhere in bed post CVA.
We all saw him having multiple TIA’s on TV and how many other “mini strokes” he’s had while not in public.
He probably had the big one when DC Metro FD was loading him into the ambulance.
Just my educated guess with no patient contact, just my observations.
I could be wrong, but I hope he’s A/O (x4) to watch Trump destroy everything that he was to chicken shit to stop post 1/6. Not me mention the other ways he set the US back.
Just laying in bed drooling, being fed, and shitting his diaper.
Fuck MM and DJT

u/Snadzies 17d ago
I don't think he is dead or brain dead, but I bet he is in such a diminished state that he is basically a drooling blank that needs to be constantly fed and changed and is either completely unresponsive or might be able to blink for limited interactions.
