It’s hard not to feel lost and defeated when the obvious answer to this is always “yeah, and?”. I’ve spent my entire life doing the right thing not only for fear of consequences but because it’s the right thing to do. Now as a parent I’m raising my children to do the right thing even when no one is looking because it’s the right thing to do while these grown ass men knowingly commit treason taking money from foreign countries to destroy our country from within, while they do insider trading and decimate what little social programs we have that will certainly cost more lives than they already have, while things just get worse and worse and more and more expensive.

God damn I feel this reply so much. What’s the point anymore?? Trump is a role model for children? I’m just so sick of it. As if trans kids had anymore reason to hide. As if ME following the law is expected but for them? Fuck it?

Well tbf your last point has always been true. The elites always play by their own rules and get away with stuff thar would land the rest of us in prison. A lot of the problem is that capitalism is literally the worship of money so the implication that whoever has the most is the best and however you manage to get the most is fair as long as you're successful enough to pay the entrance fee that is lawyers costs, fines, etc. Cuz really if the consequences for all these white collar level crimes is a fine then, no matter how much, it boils down to the cost of doing business; if you can afford it then you can get away with it. And if you have enough wealth you can just buy the ppl who write said laws and have them changed to suit you, which I'd exactly how our system works. It's fucked, we need a revolution like yesterday. FDR is one of the few presidents that I actually like but it prob wouldda been better had he not enacted the new deal bc, as he said himself in response to all the capitalists and titans of industry he saved capitalism by protecting it from itself. Had society just hit rock bottom there would have been a revolution and likely a socialist system enacted which would have changed the history of the species. But capitalism prevailed and has only gotten even more viscious since the socialist blocs exit from the international scene; without the threat of socialism keeping the oligarchs afraid there's no incentive for them to keep the social democratic new deal programs around anymore. It's the same across all of the West where the welfare state held up capitalism, it's been slowly eroded since the 1990s and now it's been been shredded openly in sacrifice to the defense industries so they can re-arm to fight russia or whoever. Without the threat of the people united in solidarity against the tyranny of imperialist capitalism we will be returned to serfdom, and they're well on their way to accomplishing it what with the reintroduction of rents for all the things we previously used to own outright.

The issue is that we can have fair capitalism with strict regulation. It’s difficult but it isn’t impossible. Anti-monopoly regulation, strict fines and punishment for malicious and dangerous acts, proper taxing brackets, strong social programs.

So basically impossible for America is what I’m getting at.
