No Paywall Trump Won’t Rule Out Declaring State Of Emergency Before Midterms

He should be impeached and imprisoned for even saying this much. It’s literally treason. There is no emergency, there is zero evidence of any threat, he just knows the electorate hates his policies and he doesn’t want to be held accountable.

Most all US media outlets are owned by billionaires, that’s why they don’t cover everything and tiptoe around issues. Getting a good paying job as a reporter is super difficult to find these days and they won’t risk standing up to their bosses.

The “elite” have had nearly complete control of the media for decades now. After the Arab Spring showed how social media could be used by the masses, they’ve spent a lot of effort to own and/or control those outlets in the 15ish years since.
We’re literally under mind control as a populace.

The Tea Party was the direct product of that realization, but its successor, MAGA, took over on its own. There's no way rich people wanted someone as fickle as Trump in charge: they want someone who understands their needs and can keep his end of the bargain. Trump keeps burning even his donors (beef barons probably are not too happy at the moment) for the smallest change.
•
u/joshg8 2h ago
I don’t recall that as the roots of the Tea Party. I know it was co-opted and astroturfed by the Koch’s but it seemed their main gripe was that a black man was president now but they were too chickenshit to say the quiet part out loud.

u/Acceptable_Bat379 1h ago
Yeah the tea party was started as an astroturfed anti establishment conservative party that gave Rs an "out" to keep supporting the party after the bush years, but pretend it was different. It started around 2010 or 2011 pre social media. Remember the weirdos dressed in colonial era costumes and wearing tea bags off their hats?

So here's my question. How was that published, with a forward written by the candidate for the VP and it not considered sedition and treason?
Like it's literally spelling out their plan to overthrow the government and SITTING politicians helped write it and were paid to do so.
HOW is that not treason?!
•
•
u/Gibonius 2h ago
It's not illegal to call for the overthrow of the government. Freedom of speech covers a lot in this country. You're pretty much OK until you're actually plotting violence or collaborating with a hostile foreign government.
And that second one is usually defined pretty narrowly, like, "we're actively in a state of war", not "they're a geopolitical adversary."
•
u/sgrams04 2h ago
Unfortunately, treason is legally defined in the US as aiding and abetting an enemy under an official declaration of war. That should be something that is changed given our current climate so that this stops happening and becomes prosecutable.

Bigger, longer protests (more than a single weekend)? Strikes? Something??

•
u/cesarxp2 Connecticut 55m ago
It’s hard for the US to come together and "do something" because a) we're a massive country. I think Europeans have a hard time picturing just how big we are. So people protesting in scattered cities doesn’t have the same impact as a huge portion of a smaller country like France mobilizing at once... b) a lot of Americans still aren’t yet directly affected, and people ignore problems until they are affected. It's the consequence of a capitalist-driven country... and c) our education system has seriously let people down. Teachers are underpaid, schools are underfunded, digital technology is prioritized at home and social media has become a main source of information. That combination breeds idiots that believe misinformation.

The federal government can't cancel elections. The federal government can't cancel elections because the federal government does not administer the elections. That's up to states. Moreover, if a state somehow fails to run its Congressional election, they just won't have representation in Congress because those terms are baked into the Constitution itself. The federal government can howl and scream. Trump can make phone calls. Compliant states can make compliant noises, but it is not in their interest to actually comply and the federal government can't force them.

u/yesrushgenesis2112 2h ago
Precisely. So much of Trump’s strategy is to play into the fact that much of the US, and global, population has no idea how our system works, and they let the fear of what they imagine Trump might do fill in the gaps without bothering to learn that there are, even for as bad as things are, still significant obstacles in his way.
I wish more Americans would educate themselves and in so doing strip Trump of much of his rhetorical power, but of course there are many systemic and individual issues for why that doesn’t happen

““I could use it. A lot of people think I should use it sometimes,” Trump said of invoking the Insurrection Act.
He loves making comments like this, where he tells everyone what he could do, because it makes him feel very powerful. I’m not sure that any Republican with designs on 2028 or beyond would want to go along with it. My guess is, they’d love to lose in 2026 so they can run as opposition, which is always easier, in 2028.
Who knows. I’m just grateful that every passing day is one day closer to our never having to see or hear from him again.

In a sane world, this would have been an immediate end of this administration, with new elections for president underway. That should be considered treason and he should be locked up. This should be considered absolutely unacceptable behavior from a sitting (or non-sitting president). The only national emergency we're facing right now is this administration itself. If/when Democrats get back into power, they need to add WAY more guardrails to the system to prevent anybody like this from ever coming into power again.
The one saving grace we have with Trump is he's probably too stupid to fully take advantage of becoming a despot, we may not be so lucky the next time around.

With a scotus ruling maybe. But all they can do is put their own officers there which is the same thing. Not that cops really go against other cops anyway.
•
u/Stinky_Fartface 2h ago
I’m not sure how they could stop it. He will do it too late for SCOTUS to act to stop it, and even if they do rule against it what would stop him from just ignoring them? He will federalize the National guard and then are we expecting the police to hold them back? We’re quickly moving into “civil war or accept the coup” territory here.

I really think the team sport aspect will kick in unfortunately.
The gun groups and militia men that supposedly caress the constitution in bed every night were the first ones to cheer on going after peaceful protestors and the wholesale systematic disappearing of large amounts of people to continents that they have never set foot in, to literally be slaves in foreign prison that have no accountability.
The asylum process has has been in shambles, something we used to care about.
I genuinely think as long as it’s happening to others, and furthers their cause, the will sadly think it’s ok.
Germany in the late 20’s to early 30’s should be a lesson, it didn’t start with every group. Soon rivals and dissidents were sent to camps.
So much for their slippery slopes around their guns I guess.

Most likely is interrupting the process at every and all steps.
- Send military/ICE to polling stations (you know, those democratic ones in big cities where the lines are up to 8 hours to vote). Start doing ID checks or such, to hold up the process even more.
- If a ruckus breaks out of it, it directly can be escalated and will still achieve it's purpose, try to limited votes likely to be democratic ones.
After the polls close:
- Seize ballots, especially the vote by mail ones.
- Disrupt the counts, by whatever reason the DOJ can think up.
- All to delay delay delay and get SCOTUS to approve only votes counted on the day itself.
After that it will be mostly lawfare. Endless litigations up to the SCOTUS again.
Also, if the shit really hits the fan. That the steal/coupe is so obvious that people really wake up and get out on the streets. He can preventatively send military to whatever he wants.

The president has no power to cancel or delay the midterms, emergency or not.
Congress sets the date by federal law (the Tuesday after the first Monday in November in even years). Only Congress can change it.
States run the elections, not the president. The Constitution gives the president no role in election administration.
Emergency powers don't cover it. None of the 100+ emergency statutes include any power over election dates.
Terms end automatically. Under the 20th Amendment, House terms end January 3 whether an election happens or not. No election wouldn't keep anyone in office; it would just leave seats empty.
Even during the Civil War, the US held its elections on schedule.

Better headline: "t***p hints at declaring state of emergency to secure midterms for his party"

Why do we placate angry, senile old men? For any reason?
When we do that in everyday society, everyone else just does what they want anyways, why don't we all just do that?

We citizen arrest dumb maga and vote the next day. He wants to intimidate us but Rep(edo)ublican and Pedo 47 are more scared.

It's hard watching from Canada because y'all voted for him... TWICE. And you were warned SO. MANY. TIMES. And you know how many male Americans I spoke with voted for Trump because Hillary and Kamala were "annoying" and "incompetent", and that Trump is a "strong leader". It's really sad.

I’m convinced Elon Musk fucked with the last election to get the Republican win.

First off, I apologize on behalf of my whoooole country for this…disaster of a situation with having a narcissistic psychopath running the country next door to you. No one likes bad neighbors lol Secondly, I just want to say, white male American here, voted against him every time. He’s a vile monster and I knew that before 2016. Hillary wasn’t my favorite candidate ever but I knew she’d make a good president. Harris I liked, and again, I thought she’d be a good president. I know that doesn’t change what’s happened, but there’s still plenty of us who aren’t like that here. I know that changes nothing, but some of us are trying.

Except the part where only 32% of voting-eligible Americans voted for him, and that’s when you consider Trump and Elon basically admitted to rigging it on live television multiple times.

It's not as simple as that. Many of us didn't vote for him, and because of the electoral college, the sad fact is that there's only REALLY a few relevant states. People will look at non-voters and that sucks, but like, being a non-voter in California or NY or CT is mostly irrelevant.
Our country has severe systemic problems with "democracy" that have led to this.

When the media posts they type of headlines all they do is validate his BS.
Stop reposting his nonsense. Trump can’t stop the elections. States control the elections not the Federal government.

He got away with Jan 6 and all classified documents case .. you think he won’t do crazier shit this time?
•
u/Starfleeter 2h ago
Elections are not under federal control, they're under state control. There is absolutely nothing he can do as part of the federal executive branch to stop the election process controlled by states. This is what he's most afraid. The only thing that can happen is the same thing that has happened with special elections where the Senate leaders refuse to swear in the new representatives.

People need to stop waiting for his diehard base and the republicans he has in his corner to suddenly hit their limit and do the right thing for democracy. They don’t care about democracy. They won, they have a person in power who does what the think they want, they would gladly live under a Trump dictatorship. There are interviews with MAGA people saying as much. Expecting them to suddenly have a crisis of conscious is naive, these people never actually cared about freedom and democracy. That’s why going after conservative voters during the Harris campaign was such a losing strategy.

So what is the “emergency”? The illegal radical transgendered Muslim communists? /s

I’m actually really worried about how far they will go to declare a state of emergency.

Because he wants control. You know, that thing republicans projected about democrats…

Should he try, I will be landing in DC for an undetermined amount of time to protest. I won't need a job if there is no America to speak of.

Journalists please take note, when DT says “A lot of people” your next question HAS to be “Who”?
And don’t stop asking until he names names or retracts.

So nobody is under any delusion that this will be a free and fair election right? Trump will rig it in his favor. There will not be a peaceful transfer of power so long as he remains

What's the emergency? That him and his dumb fuck, douche bag cronies fucked the US in the ass? Is that the emergency?
•
u/southernNJ-123 1h ago
There is a leaked memo from someone in the WH going around online that basically says he is going to declare the elections fraudulent and send the armed military, ICE and police to seize ballot boxes and machines.

u/technicalconsole 1h ago
SCOTUS said presidents can’t be charged with crimes so, the fuck is there to stop him from doing anything and everything he wants? This country is a joke!
•
u/trunksshinohara 1h ago
There are two plans here.
Lie and rig the election.
Let the Dems win in 2026 and then trump will cause a depression and blame Dems.
Americans are dumb enough to fall for both.

The majority of white voters in all three elections: 'Yes! We’re experiencing tremendous success. The truth is that when it mattered most, we turned out to vote on November 5th, and you made every excuse not to. Get ready for the continued onslaught of cruelty, the ongoing violence, and deportations. We have two more years of this: "Promises made, and promises kept," and we are just getting started.
In all three elections, the majority of white men and women who voted backed a candidate in 2016, 2020, and 2024 who's racist, fascist, sexist, a warmonger, and who raped and killed children. Naivety and the price of goods were never concerning factors.

Why would he, he doesn't care at all about the law, the constitution, free and fair elections. Trump doesn't have any ethics or sense of right and wrong and he has cheated his way through life, in business, at golf, on his wives.

We should revolt. They are stripping our rights from us. Where are all of the losers who cried and made up stuff about Hillary wanting to take rights away. Hello! It’s happening now!!

Whether it’s ICE at polling stations and literally checking your ballot or martial law these midterms are not happening legitimately. We need to do something about this while it’s still our right to, or before the constitution gets suspended which according to p2025 is the next big move.

It's a given, nobody with a brain should be wondering wether or not he's gonna do it. Assume that he is, it's part of the plan after all. What are we gonna do then boys and girls? Will that be the straw?
•
u/angrybox1842 2h ago
It's already looking bad for republicans in the midterms, a move like this would be the single greatest mobilizing force in a generation, an ignition of American's "fuck you make me" that is core to our national identity. He's not going to do it, the kooks want him to do it because they wildly overestimate what our military is actually able to do domestically (especially while actively involved in an overseas excursion). Trump loves to say he never rules anything out and the press loves to write about him saying that as evidence of him actually wanting to do something. There's no real news here.
