Unlike Ja, JG doesn't seem too happy about his new reality. He even got a haircut.

Now that we have a real answer, do we think this is possible? I think if the projected starting 5 works out we could really beat any team on any given night.

Silver linings for our defense

Our defense is going to be worse than last year, just based off personnel- subtracting Grant and Murray, two versatile forward defenders, for Dame and Ja instead who are two undersized guards known for poor defense.

However, I do think there are a few ways in which our defense will benefit from the change, and unsurprisingly, it’s primarily due to the offense. Ja and Dame are elite ball handling point guards, which is HUGE for our offense specifically because the team led the league in turnovers last year by a significant margin. That propensity for live ball turnovers leads to transition opportunities for opponents, some of the most valuable and high expected points per possession of any play type.

Not only cutting down the turnovers, but also just having higher level floor generals to run the offense will lead to better offensive efficiency in terms of ending more possessions with opponents having to inbound the ball, vs running off a rebound from a miss. Look at the Nuggets the last couple years for example, their defense has been terrible, but it gets a knock-on effect of being boosted by their elite offense, because opponents so often have to push up the court into their set defense after making buckets, as opposed to pushing off a live-ball miss leading to open floor opportunities.

TL;DR- Our defensive personnel is worse but our offense feeding less turnovers and scoring more efficiently will both lead to less transition and run-outs. More set defense possessions has inherent positive value, even if our defense is smaller with weak points to attack.

Logan Murdock says Nike is the reason the Blazers got Ja

On a recent Real Ones podcast, Logan said this bit. I’m inclined to think he’s pulling this out of his ass, but has anyone seen any evidence ANYWHERE that would back this up? Does Dundon have any Nike ties that I’m unaware of?
