onward christian soldiers! This fuck wants to lead a crusade from his desk

•

u/mcloofus 39m ago

He wants to weed out anyone who will impede the coup.

•

u/rat_penis 36m ago

That too.

•

u/CarminSanDiego 9m ago

That’s why I , as a military member, changed my religious preference to Christianity

A crusade against the wrong people at that.

•

u/qix96 48m ago

I can't stand watching this dude for that long but was this only christian support (as I would expect)? Or are they trying to support all religions in the military?

•

u/Hoosier2016 46m ago

Come on what do you think

•

u/superspicycurry37 45m ago

Take a wild guess

•

u/E51838 45m ago

How’s life under that rock?

•

u/secretlyjudging 42m ago

Seriously. Hegseth has systematically reduced the number of faiths recognized by the military. Shit are happening and people give current administration benefit of a doubt.

•

u/rat_penis 38m ago

Everybody waiting for the first guy to throw a punch and unleash the mobs on both sides.

•

u/caffeine-junkie 37m ago

Hes very supportive of your religious choice, as long as its the correct one that he approves of. If it isnt, well you signed that right away as well when you joined. Cant even abstain any more from all religious faith and chose atheist.

→ More replies (1)

•

u/pyronius 33m ago

Let's put it this way: his previous big action along similar lines was to sharply limit the number of religions that the military actually recognizes, and of those remaining, the vast vast vast majority of them are just branches of christianity. You can now be recognized basically as, standard Jewish, standard Muslim, standard Buddhist, standard Hindu, or any of 100 varieties of Christian.

•

u/brownsfan760 28m ago

He's not even supporting all Christian denominations.

Totally just a coincidence that he also has a Crusade tattoo…

Separation of church and state?

•

u/houstonyoureaproblem 36m ago

These people loathe the Constitution and American institutions. They couldn’t care less about separation of church and state.

•

u/absoultepong 10m ago

They also don’t care about religion.

•

u/HOLEPUNCHYOUREYELIDS 6m ago

They care about it! Just in the sense of using it as a way to control others and justify their actions, despite being antithesis to any “good” that Christianity preaches

•

u/Jetztinberlin 45m ago

Nah, never heard of it :/

•

u/SpaceCampDropOut 39m ago

Neither has the Supreme Court.

•

u/Odinsson17 29m ago

It's been ruled on several times

•

u/HairballTheory 8m ago

Doesn’t apply to the the War Pope

/s

•

u/waffle299 33m ago

Christian Nationalists have been spreading stories for years that the wall between church and state is some sort of liberal conspiracy.

•

u/TheTVDB 24m ago

I'm not watching Hegseth talk for 6 minutes, so I say this with uncertainty with regard to the details. I think this would be allowed so long as it's not specifically Christian. In the same way there are military chaplains.

So, it's now up to the Church of Satan to do their thing and force it to become an issue of separation of church and state, because you know Hegseth and company won't allow anything other than a fundamentalist Christian program.

•

u/V4R14N7 14m ago

Temple of Satan is probably the one that will fight for this, they're the ones that are most active for this and other (equal) rights around the country.

•

u/o_MrBombastic_o 44m ago

That's unamerican commie talk why do you hate Christians? /s

•

u/spanksthemonkey 34m ago

This whole wave of "Commie" accusations reminds me of good ole Joe and how he was a closeted self-hating gay man who lashed out at others.
or.. maybe...I dunno...
Roy Cohn, a manwho worked closely with America's "poppa Joe" and is another self loathing gay man who has admitted a "crush" on DJT.
Same commie accusation bullshit from all these homophobic gay men.

•

u/Chemistry11 12m ago

“Commie” just makes me laugh because it’s not 1950 anymore. I’d weather be a Commie than a Corporate Socialist.

Disingenuous fucks

•

u/anirban_dev 31m ago

As far as foundational building blocks of America being dismantled goes, this is a rather small and obvious one.

•

u/Munster172 34m ago

America was literally founded because we were tired of being told what religion to be. God I’m so tired.

•

u/Xynvincible 11m ago

Mm, not really. Moreso it was founded by the religious who were so crazy Europe decided they didn’t want them anymore. That’s what “freedom of religion” really means. Those poor, persecuted Puritans found a public unwilling to have their will enforced upon them, so they decided to create one themselves.

•

u/Suicidal_Deity 40m ago

Separation of church and skate!

•

u/ckellingc 17m ago

Pete Hegseth has a lot of experience with "Affairs".
(He admitted to 5 different affairs while married to his first wife, and at least one affair while married to his second wife - when he got his third wife pregnant)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Hegseth

•

u/Vio_ 45m ago

I remember when John Edwards got blown out of the water for having exactly one affair.

•

u/tynman35 32m ago

Well yeah, if Pete were to run for anything, he'd lose. So when the most corrupt president in history gives you a lucrative cabinet position, you take it.

•

u/Throwawaylikeme90 43m ago

Well to be fair, wasn’t she dying of cancer? Like… you’re fuckparty is en route, don’t drive to meet the delivery guy. If I’m remembering right it is pretty fucking bad lol.

Tax churches

•

Yep. If we're no longer separating the two church and state, they are now 100% within taxing rights. Else, we the state should no longer be taxed. Have fun with that.

•

u/fiendishrabbit 46m ago

One step closer to the fascist theocracy that they want.

•

u/mcloofus 38m ago

They don't care about Jesus one bit. They just want to keep Christian conservatives locked in and weed out anyone in the military who might object to their fascist takeover.

•

u/xxneoxx3000 29m ago

It's so fucking dystopian and deeper than that. The religious right has been planting seeds for decades, in hopes that one day they would germinate to infect enough people that it would finally catapult them into power. Well, they've done it. A lot of ex-Evangelical cult members are sounding the alarms that these Christo-fascist demons finally managed to take over the government, and you are seeing everything play out exactly as they'd hoped.

Religion is the best tool they can use to divide and conquer, then maintain power as ordained by their divine God. We are so fucked it's not even funny. Purges are coming, consolidation of power, then free reign to enact what their twisted God orders them to. I'll save you some time, their God wants wealthy white people to rule over lower class minorities and white folks, as well as infinite tithing and 0 privacy. Only those in power will be allowed to embibe, fuck and do whatever they want, because what are you going to do about it?

•

u/rikwes 23m ago

And this is ,ironically , precisely the thing Jesus was opposed to and preached against .

you didn't got the memo last year right?

•

u/sketchahedron 38m ago

You’d have to be pretty stupid to join the military right now.

•

u/timmyotc 29m ago

Usually they select for desperation. One of the arguments against free college is that it would hurt recruitment numbers

•

u/funkmasterhexbyte 36m ago

too bad they can decide to draft us anyway

•

u/cloudncali 33m ago

I wonder what percentage of people would rather go to jail then fight for this clownshow.

•

u/mistiry 30m ago

Legitimately, one of the positives to getting older that I remind myself of from time-to-time as I watch the world continue to deteriorate around me, is that I've aged out of the desirable age range for something like a draft.

This country will have to be *incredibly* desperate to want to draft my middle-aged, slightly overweight, and definitely out-of-shape self.

In Russia, the Orthodox Church is basically led by the KGB and is just another tool used by the regime to control their people, the same thing is being done in the US.

From the outside looking in we all know MAGAts regime doesn’t give a fuck about religion, but it’s gonna be a way to keep tabs on their fanatics and squash any form of resistance before it takes hold

•

u/SaltyShawarma 29m ago

Are you telling me that all these adulterers and pedophiles don't care about their own religion?! I never...

•

u/Dap-aha 36m ago

Have you seen the links between the Orthodox church and military cadets (as in young children through to adulthood)? Part of the same strategy and deeply disturbing

•

u/GamingVision 16m ago

MAGAs don’t care as long as it’s their religion. They are completely on board for being repressed as long as it’s through their lens.

Illegal and unconstitutional. Separation of Church and State.

Impeach, prosecute, and execute this fuck for treason.

•

u/amakai 42m ago

Lol, who is going to do that, you? Or layers of corrupted officials?

•

u/throwawayrefiguy 36m ago

You are correct. Likely a lot of what needs to happen will be extrajudicial, otherwise people like him will walk.

•

u/ImpulsE69 46m ago

hasn't stopped them yet.

•

u/DMMMOM 31m ago

Even if they had the execution order, for some reason, like most of these court rulings, it would just be ignored. Do you guys not have court officers and police to enforce things like this?

•

u/ronswanson11 37m ago

Remember folks. Republicans are allowing this man to hold this position. Remember that in November.

•

u/fuckst1cK1 47m ago

Repeat after me:

Separation

Of

Church

And

State

•

u/SuperlativeHyperbole 28m ago

You think these people running your country care about trivial things like laws and rules? That ship has long sailed unfortunately.

•

u/Joice_Craglarg 29m ago

Oh wow, repeating after you made it true!

Just kidding, that shit doesn't mean anything anymore. 🫩

•

u/gloriousrepublic 5m ago

I’m as anti-hegseth as they come.

But providing faith resources for soldiers is abolutley not a violation of separation of church and state.

Showing that they overwhelmingly provide resources to one religion and not other, commensurate with faith demographics within the service? That would be a violation.

•

u/zeydey 34m ago

Separation of church and state, you know the thing this country was fucking formed on??

  1. Create Office Of Religious Affairs
  2. Staff it with zealots who worship the Dear Leader <--- you are here
  3. ORA gets it's own 'police' units to 'protect religious freedom'
  4. ORA gets preferential treatment when it comes to weapons and funding
  5. ORA expands rapidly to tens of thousands of units
  6. ORA becomes it's own branch of the military

Et voilá, you've created the SS.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion"...I wonder what's not clear there. Is this gonna go all the way to SC and somehow be split? What a dumb timeline we live in

•

u/flaagan 14m ago

Simple, they're just skipping having Congress involved.

•

u/xupit3r 40m ago

freedom of religion is also freedom from religion.

•

u/JackLumberPK 34m ago

That's what drives me crazy about these religious types who hate the idea of separating church and state while at the same time screaming about how important religious freedom is, as though the one isn't a literal requirement for the other to exist.

•

u/Ditka85 32m ago

So we're just going to toss out the whole First Amendment thing?

u/RandyOfTheRedwoods 27m ago

OK, I took one for the team, and watched the video.

Most of what he said is reasonable. We have always had chaplains in the military, so having a department for them to report into is reasonable.
(I am not religious, but I think it is OK to support those that are, especially in times where death may be imminent)

He made two comments near the end that were concerning and seemed to be outside the establishment of the department. He suggested that the military should be comfortable knowing good from evil, as god taught us, and that we fight for god. Both those would, in my opinion, open up misuse of the military to fight religious wars, and should not be tolerated.

Now, were they offhand as part of a speech, and had no ulterior motive, or were they purposely said. Time will tell. (And I’ll bet a lot of strong opinions as to which are about to be posted as comments in this thread. :-) )
