You don’t struggle against anything, with nitrogen you get sleepy and drop out, they tested it on pigs, bin of apples flooded with nitrogen, pig munches away, inhales enough gas they lose consciousness and fall over, they start breathing room air again and wake up, and go right back to the bin of apples.

Thought being if it was unpleasant at all they wouldn’t go back.

Look up the documentary “how to kill a human being” it was on BBC back in like 2010 I think.

The struggle comes from understanding that you are being killed...

Flood the cell at a random time maybe

u/readytofall 4h ago

Then I'm stuck in the cell wondering at any moment if I'm just going to keel over and die. That sounds worse.

Yeah but you learn that decades prior when sentenced..

IMO they don’t deserve a nice comfy quiet exit from existence, I truly feel that anyone put to death should get the exact same treatment as their victims.

you sound so cool and edgy!

Revenge is not justice.

1

u/ORNGSPCEMNKY 1h ago

Yes it is, just because your morals don’t say so, doesn’t change the fact that revenge is most definetly justice.

The window dressing the judicial system places on it doesn’t change that it is also revenge.

Thats a difficult statement/position to stand behind once you realize that not every person that ends up with a needle in their arm is guilty.....

Even if we agree that the stats put out by organizations like the innocence project are biased, its still inarguably not zero.

I agree, however in this specific case she admitted to what she did, and spent three decades minimizing/making excuses for her behaviour.

You didn't limit your statement to "she" though, you gave the encompassing statement of "they" which can only be attributed to the comlete subject, which would be all death row inmates.

So you either need to go back and make an edit, and change your stance to match what you've said here,

Or you're moving goalposts.

She was 18 when she did it. There no amount of rationalizing that will make you not a sociopath.

How about the 4-5% innocent?

Unfortunately that doesn't work the same way on humans. Alabama tried it a few years ago.

The problem was partially the set up though. Using a mask verse an atmosphere controlled chamber.

Oh it certainly does work that way. I’ve worked in enclosed spaces with various types of gases and the inert gas tanks are always the scariest. You literally have no idea until you pass out and then die, gotta be 1000% on top of your gas monitoring for stuff like nitrogen.

Masks, however, allow CO2 to be breathed back in by the individual, along with the nitrogen, and create what’s called a hypercapnic response, basically the feeling of suffocation and panic, etc. You NEED to maintain low CO2 levels to keep this response from happening, Alabama didn’t do that. Vets don’t euthanize animals this way anymore either for the same reason. Livestock is depopulated with nitrogen foam in various countries but you still run into issues of general panic/suffocation because nitrogen foam is used to kill large populations, CO2 is heavy, it’s not going to be immediately miscible in the air and float off, so you have a rather large CO2 blanket now down with the animals who are also asphyxiating on nitrogen giving them a hypercapnic response.

If you could replace the atmosphere with nitrogen, AND keep CO2 levels low then it is a painless way to go. It’s a tough problem though, especially if the person does not want to die. For places like my previous employers, the vessels are large enough that sufficient CO2 build-up doesn’t happen but they’re also too large that it typically won’t kill someone quickly, like one wants to do for an execution. Sarco Pods are probably the closest thing we have but they haven’t been approved anywhere yet and likely too expensive for a state prison complex to shell out for.

Didn’t work that way in Alabama. Dude drowned in his vomit.

Animals aren’t permitted to be slaughtered that way either, it’s deemed inhumane.

3

u/pprn00dle 3h ago

Yeah dude in Alabama def fought back against that mask, they shoudlve used something like those assisted-suicide nitrogen pods that they have in Europe that fills the entire atmosphere.

EU just started to allow nitrogen to be used on animals about a month or two ago. It’s crazy because CO2 had been previously been on the approved list for livestock for a while and CO2 is not an inert gas, you literally feel like you’re suffocating.

Cool so let’s use a bolt gun on the condemned 🤣

1

u/AgentCirceLuna 5h ago

Bin of apples what

2

u/ORNGSPCEMNKY 3h ago

Flooded with nitrogen.

3

u/AgentCirceLuna 3h ago

I think I just got confused. I thought nitrogen had been injected into the apples or something

1

u/Awkward-City1106 5h ago

Do the pigs realize someone is killing them or just hungry?

1

u/ORNGSPCEMNKY 3h ago

Impossible to quantify but doubtful, if they knew there was a threat they would behave appropriately, these pigs were perfectly content eating apples and passing out repeatedly.

1

u/Powerful-Eye-3578 1h ago

They tried this semi-recently and the subject struggled and witnesses to execution said it was nauseating and traumatizing.

1

u/ORNGSPCEMNKY 1h ago

They didn’t do it correctly then.

And that sounds exactly like something someone trying to weasel out of their sentence would say.

Prior to MAID this is exactly the method death with dignity used for patients that wanted to self exit specifically because it’s painless and humane.
