I once watched a documentary on capital punishment. In the end they suggested nitrogen hypoxia as it is painless, euphoric even apparently, but the family members of the victims were against them not suffering.

It was called How to Kill a Human Being, and was part of the Horizon BBC series, but I can't find it again.

It might be a good way to go for those seeking euthanasia, but for people who still have a strong will to live, struggling against the mask for hours is still cruel. As I said, there’s no humane way to end someone’s life against their will. You may still wish to go forth with it for whatever reason but fundamentally it is going to be ugly.

You don’t struggle against anything, with nitrogen you get sleepy and drop out, they tested it on pigs, bin of apples flooded with nitrogen, pig munches away, inhales enough gas they lose consciousness and fall over, they start breathing room air again and wake up, and go right back to the bin of apples.

Thought being if it was unpleasant at all they wouldn’t go back.

Look up the documentary “how to kill a human being” it was on BBC back in like 2010 I think.
