One of my best friends was a huge mavs fan, so there was a ton of shit talk between us about the trade etc. He suddenly and unexpectedly died the morning of this game. God i wish i could have heard the ungodly barrage of shit talk that would have come my way.

Edit: The 2018 draft Luka-Trae trade. Not THE trade i suppose

Sorry for your loss, man. Glad you had something like the NBA to bring you together

How could you have both talked to your friend about the trade and he died before the trade? Luka played zero games as a Maverick after trade was announced.

The trae- luka trade when they were drafted

No MFFL ever brings this one up as you can tell now.  We mention the “Brunson Trade” more often.

what's an MFFL?

No one talks about the Brunson trade.

Never not once

u/Mang9 1h ago

r/Mavericks was talking about Brunson through the entire playoffs especially since he beat Luka to the championship

2

u/retrospects Lakers 1h ago

People talk about “it would be wild if you had Brunson and Luka on the same team, in the same draft”

No one talks about a Brunson trade.

Use your brain and think for an extra second next time man

The fact that this performance, instead of being celebrated at the time, led to the media instead going on a crusaide saying people were scoring too much and instead of helping his MVP case because he was pulling this off on a team that was injured as fuck, actually dropped him in the MVP ballot made me realize that the media will never truly appreciate Luka.

Jokic does the same thing he's getting anointed the next day.

He will get his respect only after winning a FMVP and not before

I think sizable number of spectators, amateur to expert, don't always like Luka because he only plays offense and complains to the ref after every play. Watching him play can be mesmerizing or frustrating depending on his mood, so I'll pass on the opportunity to see him play sometimes because it can feel tiring.

That's your loss brother. Watching the man play is pure magic, even if his complaining is annoying.

People act like the media unanimously glazes Luka, but he actually gets a fairly negative bias from my perspective. Almost everything he does is always shadowed by some weird gripe of his abilities

idk Embiid had just scored 70 a few days before. And not 2 years later we now have Bam scoring 83. Something’s smelly

u/ejensen29 [MIN] Ricky Rubio 2h ago

KAT also went off in a game where he then shit the bed in 4th quarter. I think it was the same day.

He had Hawks fans cheering for him and going crazy. Arguably the greatest game I’ve seen someone play in the regular season. Absolute carry job and the Mavs needed every single point from him. Luka even trusted his teammates down the stretch and gave up a good look from 3 for a wide open 3 from THJ who was selling in the clutch

8

u/imcryptic Mavericks 3h ago

The hawks finally decided to double him in the 4th quarter. They played him straight up for like 3.5 quarters. If they kept that up he would’ve broken Kobe’s record, not Bam.

3

u/amidon1130 Hawks 2h ago

If they had just let him get his they might have won. I feel like people don't remember that this wasn't a blowout, it was a pretty close game and Luka had to score this much. Also not much defense being played on either end lol.

The perfect offensive game. Named my cat Luka after adopting him the same day 😂

This is why I hate ppl saying “2K numbers” or “vidja game blah blah..”

This is literally shit you can’t even accomplish on a video game….

Insane

u/JobTrunicht 2h ago

It's an insane performance but you can easily do better on 2K with a uber athletic slasher in career mode, you can legit just run & dunk to a 70ppg 90% season because the game is broken

-1

u/Middle_Cobbler_6935 4h ago

You’d literally have to be playing 2K on one of the lower difficulty settings to be able to do this. It’s not a video game type of performance, it’s better

3

u/Dizzydsmith Hawks 3h ago

I was at this game. It was absurd how automatic he was. Pissed me off, if I’m being honest lmao. But it was cool seeing such a performance live. It’s kind of like when the opposing team throws a no hitter. It sucks it’s your team, but it’s a cool thing to witness live.

He's pretty good at this basketball thing

3

u/Dull_Difficulty8023 4h ago

But will he be able to do this against NCAA competition?

7

u/Middle_Cobbler_6935 4h ago

The basketball equivalent of ‘Can he do it on a cold wet rainy night in Stoke?’

1

u/twinkelstick 1h ago

Thank you for reminding me of that one 😂

1

u/Rebirth345 2h ago

He smoked then sooo bad this game that the media was convinced that nobody plays defense anymore lol.
