This'll go over great for the november elections

Actually that's probably the entire reason they're doing it. Put someone back under Elon's desk so he'll happily be a yes man for Trump again and run the propaganda machine on sXitter

They don’t care about the election, they already announced that a big chunk of the higher-ranking army leaders will be ousted before mid-terms. Meaning only those that will comply with Trump will remain to avoid any coup.

Avoid or ensure?

I think it's less about a coup to hold onto power (although maybe!) and might be more about just completely gutting the US's ability to project strength for its interests and its allies interests, much less defend itself domestically.

I don't think Trump's goal is to hold onto the US, I think his goal is to burn down the entire concept of the US as any sort of functional democracy on his way out the door to some remote island.

It's not Trump - he understands so little about the military that they have to explicitly tell people in uniform around him to not talk to Trump, because he will just take something they say and start making policy around it. He couldn't purposefully create or destroy a better military, and his first term didn't involve fucking with the military at all.

What's different, is that he basically put a grunt in charge of the US military strategy, who has then proceeded to do very grunt things, like blaming fitness standards on people who don't need to run as being why the military falls behind in some categories. But even when you ignore the culture war things, he makes decisions that are absolutely the kind of stupid shit that grunts would espouse. Such as advocating for steam catapults instead of electromagnetic catapults on carriers. There's a laundry list of reasons why, despite the growing pains, electromagnetic catapults are far superior, and the "proof is in the pudding" considering not a single nation on Earth is creating new steam catapults...

This kind of logic is what you espouse when you're a stupid grunt talking out of your ass, and not reading reports or weighing actual value of the systems in any scientific way.
