The thing is those who quit probably dont spend that much in the game hence no loss in revenue.
People who spend monthly jades/BP can easily get 1 new character per patch, while smarter players can save for new character/dupes to improve their team. So my crackhead theory on this one is that hoyo adjusts powercreep relative to what monthly jades/BP buyers should be able to clear because thats the playerbase they cater to.
When I ask them what the problem is in those videos, I never get a proper reply. They don't know what they want from the story, they complain about characters not getting enough time yet want new new new every month, etc. While I definitely agree that the events have sucked and been very little, 4.x has been Star Rail at its best in story department for me.
Endgame enemies doubling in HP every 2 months is bad
Having teams being formed by all five star limited characters or a steep dropoff if you substitute four or unoptimal characters is bad.
The story having no real stakes, very poor build up, being hyper shounen coded, being hyper verbose is simply bad writing. Himeko alter comes in seemingly out of the blue to spew some cool lines, okay?
The game having not evolved at all on the turn based gameplay front for 5 years is bad. When you strip away the final fantasy summon animations, HSR is still the shallower than an oil slick turn based game it came out as. The entire gameplay still only centres on gaming the turn table, there is still no even basic features like wait a turn or defend for a turn or team positioning mechanics or atb mechanics.
You shouldn't need someone to explain these things to you if you actually play the game. Just say you are okay with all of the above, very obvious problems, and move on.
Okay, so it's a matter of your expectations being out of tune.
Endgame I agree with, but that's miniscule compared to other more important parts of the game which would be midcore and the casual area.
The battle system is never expected to have sweeping changes, that is completely unrealistic. It will also always be in this simple and shallow state due to the primary userbase that engages with it. It's not meant to be Persona or the Kiseki games. Their focus should be introducing fun gimmicks within the characters which we have seen with Himeko or Silver Wolf.
Yeah, so again, you don't know what you want from the story nor have any idea what you're talking about, lol. The story has plenty of stakes, especially for what you'd expect of Star Rail which has stayed consistent with the tone it's gone for and MHY has stated explicitly the kind of tone they want. Not to mention, as a live service game, it's perfectly in line with that.
4.x has had a strong build up and vastly improved how they handled antagonists and took their time. Fullwish and Asat Pramad were not rushed through at all and they learned from the overly poetic diatribe that plagued Amphoreus alongside not making it too obvious the banner characters are forced highlights. They also improved significantly on making sure patch characters don't disappear after the banner is over. Himeko Alter did not "come out of the blue" it was based around Planarcadia's wishpower concept and your Stellaron that's housed within you. Asat explains it quite clearly that the one in your body differs from the Stellaron that comes from Xipe and acts based on your actions.
You shouldn't need someone to explain these things to you if you actually play the game. Just say you didn't pay attention to the story.
You didn't pay attention to the story, I called you out on it. I even agreed with you in one aspect and explained that what you want won't be in a gacha game generally, but okay. You and your ego can take a hike.
Having teams being formed by all five star limited characters
Rmb when HSR players were shit slinging that Genshin has low pull income? That's the trade off. That's why veterans keep telling them the "generosity" comes at a price
As long as the game is this profitable, no big changes will be made. From the deluge of “everyone is quitting hsr” content in my feed, you would think its at least not in the top 3 but look at that, revenue actually increased lol
Which they changed since last year which made every gacha in the list drop its revenue? As sensortower never made accurate numbers and are used as trending metrics only?
Theres no doubt HSR revenue went down a chunk but some of that is releasing 3 less characters this region.
At the end of the day non push banners went from ranks 5-17 to 7-24. Not the end of the world. This isnt like ZZZ going from 10s-30s in the first half of 2025 to 30s-115 in 2026.
I dont play the game, quit after acheron release. And everybodys revenue declined from last year. Hsr is number 3 in revenue and youre still calling it “catastrophic” hahaha. Let me give you a piece of advice: quit. That game is shit, was shit and will always be shit. Its not going to change no matter how many “everyone is quitting” yt videos you watch cause its still raking millions and always among the most profitable. Hoyos not going to change the formula, period
Yes, and among the big ones only genshin. On the szechnaya (or however its written) patch, which is the culmination of like 7 years of story and after a kind of weak year from what ive heard.
Again, hsr is still top 3 my guy. If rev declined year on year, it did so less than the market cause thats how math works. You cant fight numbers and as long as hsr is at the top of the charts, its not going to change. If you are disatisfied with the direction of the game, drop all hope of it changing course and find a new game like i did

Damn near certain that over 95% of the people complaining about HSR still play it daily
